"Finally, I would like to thank everyone who has supported me so far! I am not sure how much more I can do, as I am not very confident about my health, probably due to my lifestyle when I was younger, but I will try my best to create more interesting pieces of work, so please continue to support me!" - Akira Toriyama, December 2023. @@-Gax- Nah, I have a special place for Dragon Ball in my very core and it will stay so forever. You don't understand how big of a fan I was and how I admire him along with my pals. I admire him so much that I used to turn on the TV and watched a clip of going super saiyan 3 and screamed along, to the point where my own mother heard and open a door questioning me what happened to which I respond "I stub my toe" in the most genuine way possible with a serious expression. I used to write essays defending Goku against those who demean him with other characters, I even used to always think he is the most handsome anime character in fiction. I started trying to train exactly like him and Vegeta to the point where I could do one hand push ups and sit ups on a monkey bar like how he did in gravity chamber. All of things sad here was done when I was a little 9 year old with a mini iPad and all the time in the world in his hands. You're misunderstanding of my comment had me writing another essay in a long time thinking that I have a bad distaste for Akira himself. You don't know the countless times that I've liked comments mourning and hoping peace upon his flying soul, and I could see difference between deceitful comments and honest ones. I could go on with all the good memories I've had related to Dragon Ball that yourself can't hope to have done genuinely.

If all he's trying to do is share info about what happened, then why the fuck does he waste so much time with irrelevant BS instead of just getting to the fucking point? How long does it take to just confirm statements that he had a brain tumor? The video title & the screen image already make that clear within seconds, and almost nothing new is stated beyond that other than how secluded Akira was. If he's NOT trying to milk this for views then he should just get to the fucking point instead of wasting everyone's time rambling about accusations of milking for content which he is just confirming by rambling about it.

I cried for a man I never met the day the news broke. That's something that has happened in only two other cases when it comes to celebrity names: Princess Diana, and Robin Williams. That's it. Those are the only other times that I've felt so impacted by the passing of a complete stranger, other than events like 9/11 where thousands of lives were stolen all at once. I'm not sure why that is - perhaps we instinctively sense that a great person has left this world, and it is a thing to mourn. With Diana, it was particularly weird because I was just a kid, and I had never followed or cared about the royal family - but somehow that just seemed to me particularly tragic. The, nearly 20 years later, it was Robin Williams, who had brought me and so many others so much joy growing up. And now, a decade past that, it is Akira Toriyama, whose work and imagination had brought me literal decades of enjoyment, something to lose myself in and be enthusiastic about, even before I knew exactly who was behind the thing I loved so much. I have had the same e-mail since the year 2000, and my e-mail address from those younger years? It's a dragonball reference. Even way back then, and before then, he was impacting my life. I once had a golden goku figure from Burger King. I bought numerous dragonball Z shirts and cards. The first time I set foot in Japan, I set about finding a dragonball manga to take home even though I knew I couldn't read kanji. Countless times, I imagined as I walked along what it'd be like to be a super saiyan, to fire ki blasts, to fly. I played Dragon Quest and Chrono Trigger - and Toriyama's art was the singular reason I bought my first Dragon Quest game nearly 20 years ago - if I hadn't known that the man who brought us Dragonball had done that, I would have just stuck with Final Fantasy (and even Final Fantasy, by the way, owes everything to Toriyama - it was Hironobu Sakaguchi seeing Dragon Quest I and being impressed with the world Toriyama built in his art that prompted him to create the first Final Fantasy game - and the most legendary FF character, Cloud, notably wears Gohan's Cell saga outfit in-game in VII, if you've never noticed). Even as a grown man, now decades older than when I first discovered the wonderful things he brought us, I was even on the very day he passed away and on the day the news broke...watching Dragonball. AGAIN. Something that I'd seen countless times. Somehow, I never got tired of it. I was messaging my brother on Facebook, talking about the new events in Super, sharing Dragonball memes, on the very day the news broke, and I had a tab open, mid-way though watching Gohan fight Cell for the 10 millionth time, on the day we all found out. So yes, I think it makes SENSE, in light of all of that, that I cried, and that these past days have felt so very dark. Typically, if a famous person dies (and the irony is, Toriyama-san didn't even want to BE famous - he just hoped people liked his creations)...I just say "that's a shame" and move on. But this? This is different. It feels, strangely, like losing family, as absurd as it sounds given that I never even met him personally. But how could it NOT feel that way, when you count up all the countless hours and days and months spent over the decades with something he created before you? I put over 100 hours into Chrono Trigger alone, to say nothing of Dragon Quest and Dragonball, Dragonball Z, Dragonball GT, Dragonball Super, discussion forums, videos, merchandise, manga and more. Consider this: Dragonball has 153 episodes. Dragonball Z has 291 episodes. Dragonball GT has 64 episodes Dragonball Super has 131 episodes Total: 639 episodes On average a single episode is 23 minutes. 23 x 639 = 14,697 minutes There are 21 animated Dragonball films, totaling exactly 1,300 minutes of run-time There are 3 live-action dragonball films (as much as we hate Dragonball Evolution, it was, sadly, made, and there's a Chinese and a South Korean film from decades ago - Mr. Toriyama is credited as "writer" of the latter though I doubt he actually interacted with those involved), totaling 276 minutes. ALL TOGETHER, the on-screen run-time if you've watched (as I have) every single piece of dragonball content, is 16,273 minutes, or 271.22 hours, or close to 2 weeks if you did nothing but watch those things back to back with no sleep. Consider, then, that many of us over the years have RE-watched all dragonball anime series (15,997 minutes, including the films) at LEAST a dozen times. That becomes, then, 191,964 minutes, or 3,199.4 hours, or 133.3 days - a third of a YEAR of our lives with SOME form of dragonball material on a screen. None of us would do so with Dragonball Evolution, so I ignore that here. Going even farther, there's the MANGA - how many hours? How many 20, 30 minute youtube videos over the last 15 years talking about everything from fan theories to Goku and Gohan's most recent fight in Super? How many manga review videos? I'd hazard to say hundreds, maybe more, over that time - so let's say 500 videos over the years, averaging 15 minutes, for a total of 7,500 minutes, or 125 hours, or 5.21 days in addition t the 133.3 days for the anime itself. That's 138.5 days SO far. But there's more: Suppose each manga chapter takes 15 minutes to read. There were 519 chapters from 1984 to 1995, and 102 Dragonball Super manga chapters, totaling 621 chapters. 621x 15 minutes = 9,315 minutes, or 155.25 hours, or 6.5 days. Now that's a total of 145 days, or 40% of a full year of our lives dedicated JUST to Dragonball. THEN there's everything else: Dr. Slump, Sand Land, Chrono Trigger, the entire Dragon Quest series - 12 Toriyama games in total including Chrono Trigger - and EACH OF THOSE can easily take 50 to 100 hours to 100%, or up to 1,200 hours (possibly more - you can put 150 in DQXI alone) PLUS all the spin-off games - so really, at least 2,000 hours or 83.33 days are possible if you are big into all things Dragon Quest - you could even safely say 3 months are possible. Together with the previously mentioned content, it's 235 days, or two thirds of a year spent with this man's work. Spread out, of course, over actual decades. It's like Akira Toriyama sat in the room drawing for you for almost year of your life. THEN there's all the dragonball fighting games, there's every anime ever made that was inspired by Toriyama or which involved his help - One Piece alone is over 800 episodes long, Naruto was heavily inspired by Toriyama, Bleach, Yuyu Hakusho, and countless others. You could add months JUST for that - over a year now. THEN there's things like Final Fantasy - I personally had logged (over the course of over a decade) many MONTHS of time logged into Final Fantasy XI - and Final Fantasy is a direct result, again, of Akira Toriyama's influence on series creator Hironobu Sakaguchi. I pulled so many 8, 10 hour play sessions on XI alone I lost count. All told, over half a year spent on Final Fantasy content. So when people judge us for being upset over the passing of a man we never met, consider all of that. For me, if I ever slept, ate or went to the bathroom and did nothing but the above all in a row, it means I have spent Close to two actual years of my life either engaged directly in Dragonball, Dragon Quest, or some other content inspired heavily by the works of Akira Toriyama. THAT is a significant part of my life. I had more time in the light of Akira's imagination than I spent with my own father, who I haven't seen since I was 11. So forgive me if I mourn the passing of such a person. He's very special to me, even if he always tried to stay out of the public mind. Arigatou gozaimasu, Toriyama-sensei. For everything.

First off when the fandom dwindle you and some other creators kept us uptodate and kept apart of the fandom alive creating new content and diving more deep on the lore, interviews and other materials than a couple of years came out the movies and then super you kept us inform in all my years of watching dragonball 30+ there is a handfew of creators i trust for my dragonball info. Truth be told you have already profit on Akira's name. But that is not a bad thing you arr true fan and a honest creator. Toriyama sensei would have been so happy with the love you showed tonhia creation and the community you have helped build. Stay strong we lost a great one. Keep us posted

Well said to the both of you but still again with the way things have been going on with social media and the way things work and all I just don't blame the man for staying private the way he does especially after the things people have said before and after his passing I just respect the privacy now.

What this man did for me, my whole life, can’t be understated. This guy is the reason I am who I am today, why I like what I like, and why I care about what I care about. I had a birthday two months ago, and I got a late gift the day I found out he died. I was supposed to get it in January. It’s Goku flying off into space saying “Thank you!! Goodbye!” Rest in Peace, legend.

My older brother was the one that introduced me to Dragon Ball/Dragon Ball Z. He passed away in 2020 when he was 33 and Dragon Ball/Z was my way of getting my mind off of it!!! 😭 I always loved the way Akira Toriyama made the DB universe. He made it separate and unique from other mangas!!! ❤ R.I.P Akira Toriyama!!! 😢 Your manga changed my life in so many ways!!! ❤

This could explain why the retold Super Hero in the manga and dragged it out. Toriyama might have been too unwell to supervise or make new stories This is sad

You know what? for a private person, and the idea I get from this, and from all the things I read in his "talking to fans" sections in Dr Slump and dragon ball. I get the feeling that this man has has a VERY interesting life. Maybe its a bit insensitive of me to say this at this time, but God, I wish very much we get a movie like those movies about Steve Jobs, or Tetris or whatever, that represent his life, and how he got to where he did. Its not just like wanting to know secrets or anything. (Maybe its just me wanting to see him alive one more time in whatever shape or form, but who cares) Its just that... this man seems like such an inspiring person, and you know, just had a personality that you dont see everywhere, at least from what I know. I feel like his life would do for an AWESOME story. I know that he wanted to be a private person, but if anyone deserves the recognition, its him.

1:20 The fact that you're even saying that and just mentioning it is why I appreciate it so much just for some who don't know and are not that very smart but yeah some other creators just go on doing the same thing nonstop but never say anything about it as a disclaimer even so others be lost and I can see why they'd think the way they think after that.

. The man worked like crazy when he was younger and his body definitely took a huge toll. Akira Toriyama grew up a poor farmer boy and he only started drawing manga trying to make some money but his work touched billions of people. Even though Toriyama became super famous, he still prefer living in the countryside and away from all the fames and busy life. In a sense, when he was writing and drawing Goku, he was putting himself into Goku in subtle ways. Just like Master Roshi being a dirty old man, Toriyama is also kind of known to be a lover of dirty adult mags.

All that is happening right now truly sucks, I can’t help feeling a deep sadness and impotence. We have only two guarantees in life, one are taxes 🥲, the other is that one day we will die. Death will always be difficult, we can only accept it as part of life. It doesn’t make it easy though, but I know he wouldn’t like us all to be like this 😔. We must all be positive and cherish his gift to life, which we will always enjoy ✨🐉🕊️❤️.
