​​@@loganarlov9686yeah the PKM para version is just a bit lighter be cause the construction is almost stamped steel with a barrel. Many manufecters already get away from stamped steel but still very effective construction method and the PKM, AK and G3 type weapons used this thecnology since WW 2 and is very effective construction fast and strong, but for some reason now a days is all milled and forged pieces, gives a better finish and is very strong, but stamping is still very effective

@@TheOnlyBonsai From what I found in a SAR article, the Barrett/Geissele 240LWS weighs 20.5 lbs with a standard length barrel and 19.5lbs with a short barrel. Neither were adopted, but the 240L from FN which was weighs 22.5lbs.

People really don't think about how much work went into designing these firearms. It's easy in the Call of Duty/Gamer-era to see something like this and think "It looks just like every other LMG," but this is a really cool time for gun enthusiasts!

that looks really cool but as a former Infantry machine gunner, this looks like a miserable experience. Imagine humping this thing for 14 hour patrol missions along with all other kit in the burning heat. If you want to improve belt feds, make then lighter and more compact. Much like that REAPR belt fed that just came out, make then select fire. You don’t always have suppress fire.

It doesn't have any quick barrel change functionality? Which in and of itself makes it a very different firearm compared to this. Look at the MG36 as context, G36 with drum mag and slightly beefier barrel. Never took off as a concept.

I don't see the point in buying a semi auto light "machine gun" as a civilian. Kind of defeats the whole purpose of having a squad automatic weapon they can put down a lot of ammo down range quickly. That's probably why they don't sell well. If autos were allowed they would sell like hotcakes.

Uh, the M240, FN Minimi/249, the MK48? The M60E6? The PKM/PKP? Most beltfeds are open bolt. the M27IAR is a closed bolt rifle too lmao.

Open bolt is the predominant mode of operation for basically every MG. For the most part, if a gun is belt fed, you can assume it's open bolt, barring wacky civilian versions or guns with closed and open bolt mechanisms.

Why would an open bolt lmg/mmg supprise you ? All MG's with the exception of the M2 fire from the open bolt.

Closed bolt in lmg made for sustained fire would be somehow bad idea because potential cook off. Also it keeps system bit cooler when chamber is clear for airflow when not firing.

The only 7.62x51 MG with a closed bolt I can think of right now is the Hk21. Every GPMG I've used has been open bolt except the Hk21. Whole reason for open bolt is to prevent cook-offs and simplify the fire control mechanism with a sear and notch.
