@@tobimisa True, but that game was made by Nintendo and SquareSoft in the 90's. Two companies that are still around making games, although SquareSoft is now Square Enix because those two companies merged. AlphaDream was a first party studio that went defunct, and all of their games post Bowser's Inside Story had worse and worse sales. Before they went bankrupt their final game was a Bowser Inside Story remake, and that game didn't even hit half a million in sales. Imagine for example that Spider-Man 2 for whatever reason bombed and Insomniac Games went defunct. In that hypothetical world we would probably never see a Spider-Man 3. The best we could ever hope for is probably a remake of those games by different company. I believe that the same is true for the Mario and Luigi franchise. That, and unlike the Paper Mario franchise which has had fairly strong sales regardless of the console or the general reception, the sales for the Mario and Luigi games have been dipping since every release post Bowser's Inside Story on the DS.

For me, I’m excited about the scale of the next Kirby game. The franchise loves their spectacles and imagining the amount of flare they could cram into the game makes me scream. The bosses, the locations and the final boss especially UGH I CANT WAIT

Imagine an open world kirby like amazing mirror, but in 3d and with copy ability upgrades being found/unlocked by completing some sort of challenge (like how beating bosses and doing harder than normal platforming is often rewarded with music and skins in amazing mirror) it could even be vaguely Metroidvania-esque with upgraded copy abilities being required for some things (probably not realistic, but it would be so amazing)

I'm so glad someone else is talking about this. It's so incredibly exciting. I remember when the WiiU launched and we finally got to see Nintendo games on par with 360/PS3. My jaw dropped at NintendoLand and later Mario Kart 8 and Pikmin. Even though graphics at that quality had already existed for years on other consoles, it's just so special when it's a Nintendo game. I can't wait to have that same feeling again.

That's what excites me. The jump from Wii to Wii U was absolutely massive, especially since Gamecube level graphics were the staple for over a decade. Because of the art styles of so many of their trade mark franchises, simply transitioning into HD and having high poly counts did wonders for the way games looked. As we've spent time with Switch hardware, though, the flaws have become pretty apparent, and jumping to PS4 Pro level will allow for so much. Especially if the rumors about DLSS are true, potential ray tracing that may actually be more efficient than other places, I'm excited. Like the biggest things here feel like resolution and lighting quality bumps.

Well, the Wii U itself was a nice Launch into HD as Nintendo picked the _Perfect_ franchise to shine in Mario Kart. But in the end, it was underwhelming as it still was a grounded Home console and lagged behind the much more Powerful PS4. But what really did it for the next console is the Switch of course was _Portable_ and truly groundbreaking. And did more than all the Wii U could do. 💫

Yeah Zelda is definitely what I'm most excited to see, I agree that BOTW and TOTK look really nice artistically but I do really want to see something so jaw-droppingly nice looking. Something like kinda what they were going for with TP except that the GameCube-level graphics were a bit old hat by the time it actually came out.

TOTK means new fans now know some more basic bits of lore (like the sages and Ganondorf) and old fans would buy either of those games no matter what. I'm extremely excited for a next-gen Xenoblade. It is my favorite game series. Xenoblade games are always gorgeous but I feel like Monolithsoft is held back by the hardware limitations of the Switch. I'd love to see what they can do if they could go all out with it more than they already do.

Animal Crossing is definitely on my list. The designs are simple and relatively unchanged over the years compared to many other series, but every new generation release manages to up the ante eacb time. Splatoon 3 already does look great, but i think the boost in power will be especially good for the next Splatoon game's story mode. The environments, especially in 3, are always so grand in scope, so 4 (or whatever the next entry in the series will be) should look phenomenal

@@lol-ih1tl ​ That opinion is old hat sorry, and in this post-Modern day n age where Open worlds (3D of course) have taken gaming by storm on all fronts; you _need_ to hold at least some decent visual fidelity. So, a game like Vagrant Story has amazing ambient and coloured lightning that defined it's visual Style - but sadly the game was also remembered as a blocky, jarring gobbedly-gook of a mess because, of _low poly counts._

Monolith Soft is 100% the developers I want to see flex on the next system the most. With either Xenoblade 4, Xenoblade X port or sequel with enhanced graphics and performance, or a brand new IP from them, it's all just too exciting to imagine with how much they're constantly pushing their tech in R&D. Next to that, Metroid Prime in particular has the potential to be THE mature rated "realistic" franchise of their system, showing off how detailed and high fidelity their graphics can get, and heck, put multiplayer back into Prime 4, like with what Prime 2 had, and Prime Hunters and you have an audience enjoying Nintendo's own take on multiplayer sci-fi shooters with their own spin.

I had the pleasure of playing Xenoblade 2 after all of its performance patches and whatnot, so I never noticed many problems there but Xenoblade 3 definitely fell into a bit of the same feeling that Arlo mentioned with Zelda at the end: I could tell just how much it was being held back by the switch, mostly in performance though. When I go back and replay it I'm almost certainly going to end up using an emulator just so I can have the better power behind it all.

Most interested in the next Pokemon Legends game. The gameplay makes that experience fun, and the graphics (despite how it struggled) had such a style to it that enhanced my overall enjoyment. If they're serious about doing more Legends games afterward, then I would hope the increase in graphics will blow my mind. Heck, I'd love to see a Enhanced edition of Arceus if the new generation can improve it significantly.

I have always been “eh” on realistic Zelda graphics. I feel like there are a lot of fans who have kept hoping for Twilight Princess 2.0, which feels like the kind of thing Arlo is drawn to in terms of that tech demo. What I have personally really enjoyed is the way BOTW and TOTOK incorporated cel shading graphics into their worlds. So beautiful to me!

While I agree, I wished Zelda showed a bit more.. maturity, next time around. TOTK felt especially dumbed down, with non-stop useless babbling from zainy NPCs and atrocious handholding at times. That's unrelated from the graphics of course, but if Nintendo wanna attempt something fresh after BOTW/TOTK, I'm totally cool with a more "realistic" approach overall, graphics included.

But I have always thought that what makes Nintendo different (and in my tastes preferable) is that they don’t feel the need to make all their games gritty and realistic. I feel like realism is what most of the industry is obsessed by whereas Nintendo is unapologetically more interested in creating toy worlds.

Any day I'll praise Nintendo for their unique way of approaching games and putting fun gameplay first, instead of trying to wow people with realistic graphics or worse, jumping on the bandwagon of despicable monetization practices. Their game design and art direction is, and has always been, stellar. But sometimes they take two steps forward and one step back, and their obsession with mandatory gimmicks is quite puzzling. Still, I'm glad they're outside the PS/Xbox discussion and keep doing their own thing!

It’s also OK just to stick with what you know and make it better rather than being novel sometimes for its own sake Also, just to be clear, I wouldn’t hate a more realistic Zelda. I just feel like realistic aesthetics dominate in industry. But let’s be honest, I’d be excited by almost anything Zelda would do as long as it was executed well!

I want to see a next gen Pokémon Mystery Dungeon. The artstyle for Rescue Team DX was so good. But I heard somewhere they had to simplify the animations due to framerate issues. We've been trying to tell Arlo that. Honestly, it's his loss if he doesn't want to. He gets annoyed when people tell him to play. Xenoblade fans get annoyed telling Arlo to play and he doesn't. So it's best to just be like, whatever. It's his loss. Maybe he'll give it a try out of the blue and does that "Oh my god... I get it..." meme. I don't believe him when he says he's looked into the story and says it's not for him lol. He'd be blown away by Xenoblade 3's story.

@@netweed09 I think it stems from Arlo complaining about Fire Emblem Engage and modern Paper Mario having mediocre stories and saying he wants a game that has good writing with deep characters, and naturally, people pointed him to Xenoblade. Also, outside of boss battles, I found FF16's combat to be so boring and repetitive. Everyone has different tastes. There's just so much depth to Xenoblade combat. Which is precisely why Arlo avoids it.

@@ShallBePurified Well, I wouldn't call it 'depth' so objectively. I mean, its fine as you said: the RTA vs menu driven turn based stuff has always had its divide. But for games like Xeno , it's only 'in depth' if you prefer the menu driven stuff. For arcadey action, FF16s melées are stylish and pretty much what all the Devil May Cry fans wanted too. Plus they have so many variations in your approach.

@@netweed09 The depth comes from the mechanics layering on each other. Combining different equipment for buffs, deciding on which arts to equip and combine, deciding your party composition with their class or Blades, what skills to equip, etc. You can always play the game with the bare minimum and just spam arts. But the depth is there for people who want to maximize damage or doing challenge runs of being under leveled. FF16 only has the Eikon abilities. There isn't much depth and customization beyond that. The weapons and armor are just increase damage or increase defense, and that's it. That's what made it disappointing to me. And the combat isn't as good as Devil May Cry or Bayonetta. DMC fans might like FF16, but Final Fantasy fans may not be DMC fans. There isn't enough RPG for people who like the RPG mechanics of RPGs.

@@AriesT1the reason why a lot of people love franchises like Zelda, Fire Emblem, Mario, Xenoblade is because of the art styles. You take that away and those franchises will lose some of their identity. Most realistic art styles look kinda off with characters made for cartoony environments. It could work for Metroid tho

Definitely would like to see Metroid Prime. To me, that's the one game that Nintendo makes that really leans into a realistic graphical style. Although I have noticed in some games Nintendo has gone for a realistic world / cartoon characters approach, so those would benefit as well. I'm thinking that some techniques we might see more of are global illumination, subsurface scattering, and material shaders. Nintendo is already working on making more realistic materials in some recent games, but I think they can go further with better hardware.

It's something I've been considering, even long before this video. Like, I get that it's a game from 2013. But I just don't see how there could possibly be a jump from what we've currently got. Like, maybe populating more "stuff" on the sides of the tracks? Idk, in terms of like poly counts or whatever, it feels like adding more just wouldn't do much for what they're going for. It breaks my heart to hear that you’re not a Xenoblade fan, but I agree. With how nice it already looks, I can’t wait to see more games, or even remakes of X or even XB2, eventually. Another thing that really sticks out to me is Animal Crossing. Seeing the huge jump form New Leaf to New Horizons was absolutely mind blowing for me, and I’m so excited to see how much better they could make it look.

Most excited to see the next xenoblade, its always been held back, they always have to sacrifice and do many tricks to have their games running on weaker hardware even from 2 to 3 most of the graphical improvements come from micro sacrifices and development tricks that stretch far, it will be insane to see what their actual limits will be once graphics isn’t a huge hurdle they have to fight to overcome. It will be interesting to see what will happen when they no longer have to sacrifice one element of graphics for another

gosh, kirby's gonna be crazy. as incredible as forgotten land looks, i MUST give mention to return to dreamland deluxe! the obscenely rich detail they give to the environments is staggering, alongside some crazy high quality texture work. all running in 60 fps too! one heck of a far cry from star allies. not to mention, magolor epilogue's final boss fight having those dynamic background events and these just ABSOLUTELY colossal attacks STILL with no framerate drops in sight-next gen kirby is gonna be CRAZY!!!!

So yes Luigi's Mansion and Zelda are both on my list for next gen games. But I'd actually love to see a remakes of Paper Mario and SPM using a similar engine to the TTYD remake. Maybe even an Animal Crossing game with gen 8 graphics and some MMO elements added to refresh the series a bit. Of course this is just what I'm hoping for. There is one game series that I'd love to see on a modern system more than anything else and that is: Wave Race. Imagine what this game could look like on modern hardware with all the fancy graphics, HDR, realistic lighting and wave physics! This could be downright magical! Plus, I don't know any other modern water ski game, so it would stand out from the crowd. Also, remember what Animal Crossing New Horizons achieved with it's cozy vibes on a tropical island? Then just imagine how awesome the atmosphere of a modern Wave Race game could be!

I'm still waiting for Nintendo to give us a Star Fox which builds on the technical achievement that was the Katina battle of Star Fox 64. There, you had dozens of hostile and allied fighters in a massive space opera scale dogfight battle. It’s a very obscure want, but for the next Nintendo console I’d really want an update for Metroid Prime Remastered. The game is nearly perfect, but at the cost of it looking so great it pushes the Switch to its absolute limit. Because of that beam lighting had to be removed, which was a feature in the original where if you fired your weapon it would illuminate the room around you. Doesn’t seem like a big deal, but it’s definitely noticeable if you played the original. Also the Thermal Visor does not look good at all, it makes the game run at an extremely low resolution and has a ridiculous amount of motion blur in order to maintain performance. They’re not game breaking issues, and I doubt Retro will go back and add these fixes to an old game, but I can dream at least!

Seriously, game is an absolute visual marvel, but the 540p resolution does become apparent if you've played it a lot. I guess this really just ties into the potential idea of backwards compatible titles having next gen patches added to them, like that one leak from a while ago mentioned with the Pokemon games. That game at high resolution would be perfection honestly.

I don't think that Smash Ultimate is going to be re-released because a lot of veterans received changes after Ultimate which means that they'll require new movesets and alternate costumes such as Metroid Dread Samus or Tears of the Kingdom Ganondorf.

Honestly, the fact that the Wii was "essentially an overclocked GameCube" is probably the best move they could've done at the time. GCN backwards compatibility for almost zero effort, familiarity with the architecture making it slightly less hard for devs to make games, and it let them put effort into the _innovative_ aspect of having a motion-based controls system, to make it be as intuitive and reliable as possible. Of course now, the fact that you can get eye-wateringly-good GWAFFICS GWAFFICS GWAFFICS in the literal palm of your hand... I agree with fuzzy blue muppet man, Nintendo needs to make their games _look as good or better_ than the competition's pretty pixels if they want to maintain their position in the Console Wars.

Next gen hardware is about 3 things... Getting games to 4k res (or at least solid 1080p although I don't get why 2k isn't more used) secondly 60fps. 30fps no longer cuts it. And thirdly drastically reduced load times. It is no longer about making things just look graphically better. That ceiling has been hit. Those 3 things are now the priority. We are now firmly in the era of diminishing returns folks. Just look at phones and how little they are now improving year on year. On another note... I recently upgraded my coffee bean grinder from a £500 machine to a £1000 model just for what probably equates to a 5% improvement to flavour. That's the world of diminishing returns we now live in.

The games looking good in indoor areas would've been a lot better if we'd actually been let into most of those 'indoor areas.' Sure the school looked absolutely gorgeous, but this is the first main series Pokemon games where the townsfolk actually lock their freaking doors so you can't walk in to watch their TVs and rummage through their trash, and quite honestly I feel guilty for calling this disappointing but it is what it is.

re: xenoblade, I completely and totally agree when it comes to the gameplay, ESPECIALLY with XC1. That game's plot is insanely good, but it wasn't enough to make up for that dull-ass gameplay. I had a similar issue with XCX. That said, XC2 and XC3 I've absolutely stomped through, the gameplay is a lot better than it looks in those two. And the plot of 3 is wayyyyyy more than worth it too. I cannot explain to you how many times that game made me cry, and became the ultimate unexpected GOTY of last year for me lol but yeah I'd like to see what monolithsoft can cook up with modern hardware

The one thing I think should be brought up that wasn't, _F-Zero._ If the video was made before the _Thousand Year Door_ announcement, it would have been before _F-Zero 99_ came out, and the fact that that game exists at all is the most significant development in the _F-Zero_ franchise in 20 years, and the thing that gives me the most hope for a new installment. _F-Zero GX_ came out on the Gamecube and looked phenomenal, so I shudder to think what a new _F-Zero_ could look like on powerful hardware.

On Xenoblade, specifically 3, i was curious but not enough to invest the time and money on it. I just found it hard too understand the gameplay and story from all the trailers and that direct. Well, one day a full cutscene video autoplayed on youtube and i just continued watching it bit by bit for a week or so. 10 hours into the video i had to stop. I was hooked. I wanted to experience the story and world exploration for myself. Its now one of my top 5 switch games. Its such a shame though that the game is a hard sell initially.

I really really want splatoon 4 to reach tf2 levels of visual flare and clarity. More character animation during gameplay, way more detail in those animations, animations playing from a distance (removal of lod decreasing based on distance), and maybe possibly decent online (please no consistent 10-40 frame delays), and maybe possibly 6 v 6 ????????? Maybe???? Editing this comment to say: splatoon 3 consistently has slowdown to 20-26 fps whenever a bad combination of Tenta missles and 8 players at the same time firing stuff onscreen occurs, while tf2 has consistently smooth 16v16 battles with an insane amount of weapon and cosmetic variety. 160 weapons to be exact, plus over a thousand hats with a generous amount of creative options (unusuals, paints). It’s not fair to compare the difference 17 years of development can make to only a over 1year old game, but there were two before it, starting from 2015. Saying tf2 is a low bar is disingenuous, I find it a bar that really hasn’t been matched. I will say that Splatoon wins in places tf2 doesn’t though. Aoe weapons arnt as over dominant as they are in tf2, and verticality is a universally enjoyable mechanic that adds depth to where tf2 only limits it to 4.5 out of the 9 classes (paintable floors and walls opening up said vertical options, which is extremely neat). Plus, and who can forget, there is more than a potted plant in the dev room…

Weird thing is the characters models still look fine, but that's probably the character design more than anything. But yeah, during the supports, I'm pretty sure the backgrounds are just 2d.
