I’ve had this display for about 3 days now. First impressions weren’t the greatest as I stripped the damn screw for the remote… they give you a screw driver tip but no proper handle and the screw itself felt very cheap. THANKFULLY the monitor also works with the LG TV remote… also, I was initially disappointed by the brightness of the display, it’s not dark, but it is dim. Not SUPER dim, but if the display was 5-10% brighter it’d be perfect (for me). That being said, my eyes have gotten used to the brightness and it’s been an absolute treat to use in Overwatch. Very very clean image, it’s buttery smooth. I also like the design of the monitor as it feels and looks great. I honestly don’t mind the matte finish at all, I was surprised with how much it bothered some people, but I really didn’t notice it at all. I’d really recommend this monitor for esport gamers that want a very fluid image, but might also consider playing other genre’s of games as well. If I didn’t play a ton of Overwatch, I’d probably get a 32” brighter 4K display, but for a sweaty try hard like myself, I prefer the faster image AND beautiful display of this monitor.

Thats the problem when comparing apples to essentially apples. When a monitor gets quite good, then the differences are subtle, and the only way to notice it is by having them side by side. Im sure that there is an improvement when having a glossy screen in a controlled lit room. Just like there will be a noticeable improvement when there is more nits, or more color more volume in the next iteration, but again, mostly noticeable side by side. This is also because our eyes will naturally see something as the darkest thing, and see it as black for example, so a not perfect black will look black on its own, but side by side next to a better example it might look more gray. This was given as example to qd oled color volume vs LG WOLED color volume. Where LG red will look more orange vs QD oled more vibrant red side by side, however on their own it looks good enough. Also the LG in some analysis handled certain colors better as well, so its not like QD oled all the way was winning. But still an interesting thing to note, when considering these kind of technologies, and simply going for what suits your needs, since it will all be good depending on the environment and needs. Me personally, I prefer no compromise on PQ and would even sacrifice refresh rate gladly for it. Give me 144 Hertz but better PQ. G-SYNC 4k QD OLED 27 inch, 144 Hz with heat sink and high brightness, and ofc glossy. Still waiting for this. Also no need to worry about processing since now Nvidia will have upscaling as an option when using chrome and watching video. Also samsung working with Nvidia as well on HDR10+ content for gaming, which can also translate for the card to work much better on QD oled tech as we expect a processor to work on a TV to add that extra pop with different options.

I agree with you here about the matte coating. When i watched other reviews I was dumbfounded by the fact they didn't choose a glossy finish to pop the colors and clarity. Genuinely stupid decision by LG imo. If this had a 250-300 nit sdr brightness with a glossy finish I'd consider it. The Alienware is still the best here imo even with the lower refresh rate. Its a monitor, being used in monitor ways (and that includes in brightly lit work scenarios) so a matte coating was really the only way to go. We are all sorry that Jacob Griffin knows more about the product than LG themselves who spent years and tens of millions of dollars making this monitor with literal teams of people solely focusing on this. They couldnt possibly know what they are doing. The low brightness is to save the panel. Do you have any idea how fast this monitor would burn in at 300 plus nits being used as a productivity monitor. Honestly i dont know why people like you think so highly of your own opinion and so easily discount literally anything that isnt exactly 100 percent everything you want. I mean you basically said “if this monitor was totally different with different specs i would consider it” well no shit dude. You shouldnt be buying an OLED to use in bright environments anyway and in hdr 300 or 400 nits is plenty with perfect blacks ina dimly lit or dark room. I think you actually arent really a fan of OLEDs and you may be deceiving yourself about your use case

I am actually extremely happy that the display is 1440P resolution. The 27" LG OLED would be perfect for me becasue of dimensions, not being curved, HDR and color/contrast levels, but the risk of burning is so high for using every day during long hours for productivity. In the European Union it's 3 years of guarantee, but LG excludes the OLED burning "if you are using the monitor in a wrong way" (what's a wrong way for a monitor and how the hell would they know that?) I heard Samsung's VA panels for Odyssey neo G7 and G8 are close to OLED black levels but their size are pretty big for me. I don't know what to do. The only issue with this is that it introduces additional input lag according to Rtings. 34" 1440p and 38" 1600p 21:9 Ultrawide are both viable too. If Alienware made a non ultrawide version of their QD-OLED it would destroy this LG monitor. Just waiting on QD-OLED 4K Monitor at this rate. This LG isn't worth the £1,100 price tag with tax.

I would love a gaming monitor but have a question around how good they are with colour accuracy for photo editing? Also, surely a curved screen causes problems for graphic design work when you need to know that a straight line is in fact straight?

What I would like to know is what to choose. I have built my dream PC already but I cannot decide on the proper Monitor /TV I saved almost 3 thousand for what is left for this part. I saved for 8 years. This is just for Gaming and internet. Not any editing or streaming just pure play. I also don't care about overkill. I want it to last 5-10 years with no upgrades. And yes I'm running the 4090TI.
@andresassine6584 Жыл бұрын
With 4090 I would recommend a 4K monitor TBH. Even with my 3080 many games get CPU bottlenecked at 1440p. 4K would be more future proof if you want to keep it for a long time.

I just bought this monitor and should be receiving it tomorrow. I am still torn whether or not to use HDMI or DP cable with my RTX 4090. I am going to be excited to get this panel, the short comings of it don't matter to me as my room isn't super bright.

I’m not against matte finishes but the one on this LG oled is far far too aggressive.
@shiyurei5 ай бұрын
so with hdmi 2.1 you’re saying i can just use the hdmi 2.1 port and run 1440p at 240hz without needing to use display port 1.4?
@haunter4764 Жыл бұрын
Matte has no place on an OLED panel, a glossy finish with a proper polarizing layer like on an LG CX TV for example will do an excellent job mitigating glare in a moderately lit room, while maintaining black levels, a matte AG coating is suitable on an IPS where the contrast is too low & the polarizer needs help. Matte would've worked on the Alienware QD OLED monitor as that panel lacks a polarizer due to the quantum dot layer being used instead, not suitable on a WLOED MLA panel. However you can turn off the lights and the hazy look of a matte finish will disappear on the LG 27GR95QE, so this is not a deal breaker as I'd imagine most gamers play in dimly lit scenarios.

I'm not rich at all but I want to invest in a long term monitor. I'm currently using the Benq EW2440 launched in 2015 I think. As I have an Xbox Series X and I'm planing to purchase a PS5 as well, I want to get the best HDR possible, more than 60 hz and more than 1080p obviously. The IPS black leves are horrible, so it's why I'm looking for a VA or OLED panel. Aso I want to use the monitor for productivity on Windows 11 (working, navegate, videos, reading news, etc. not just gaming). The bad thing is that in Spain the Samung's are not so available and the new LG oled has not even come out. Also I heard that through this year more OLED monitors will come, but idk if it's true. I play just on consoles, with 120 hz max they can perform, but the colors and contrast levels are the most important for me tbh.
