Nextbase IQ 4K Installed in an EV6 GT! I'm not happy. :-(

this one does work, just not with evs without alternators. The reason they do it like that instead of key on I would assume is because it checks voltage to make sure it doesnt drain the battery in parking mode too low so the car wont start. If it sees the voltage go too low itll shut off the camera. Which in my opinion is a great feature to have. T=But I bet it was just easier for them to use that voltage as the parking mode engagement instead of working in a key on key off mode switch which a lot of the cheaper dash cams have. its a great camera with great quality just not for cars like his. Any internal combustion car this will have absolutely no issues with

Just bought two of these, we have a 2019 Ram 1500 limited, and a 2024 Cadillac lyriq sport 3 and I thought they would be the perfect dash cams, all things considered. But just before installing them, I thought "I wonder if "EV" will make any difference in the installation process" and started checking online and found this video! Makes total sense that given how the dash cam is wired to the car, it would Have an issue with tripping into park mode. Now that I see this video. Thank goodness I bought these from costco should be an easy return process. Now it's back to the grindstone of trying to find a pair of dash cams that work with EV. Thanks for sharing your experience. This is what youtube was really meant for in the first place...

Interesting.... I have a Mustang Mach E and installed the Thinkware Q1000 in same place which works fine. However..... I also have the Nextbase IQ, mostly for the parking mode and remote real time monitoring for my 2021 Ford Bronco. I felt it needed more protection in parking mode with Real Time updates since it will have top off often in summer. Anyway, it works very well and have been happy with it. Yes, it is big and I do mount it at same location as your EV, but I still do like it. I tried both the Thinkware and and Blackvue flagship models and their remote monitoring is far inferior to nextbase IQ, especially Blackvue 900, which the Nextbase replaced and its now a door stop. If it helps, they are suppose to be improving it with software updates. I heard Nextbase did have good support for previous models, although this is my first.

Yea the next base in my opinion is the best LTE dash cam for parking mode on the market. it is bulky but my windows are tinted anyways so you wouldnt be able to see it from the outside anyways. I also agree with you about the parking mode protection being the best. The majority of other lte dash cams dont even have the motion sensing notifications and the ones that do dont work half the time. The nextbase works all the time although sometimes it takes 10-20 secs to get a notification. but to me thats still worth it. Ive heard good things about Drone XC which is the lte dash cam that can be hooked up to a few different security/remote start systems like computer T13 pro and has gps and all that was well. I might get the T13 and just add on the Drone XC since itll be integrated into my 2 way security system as well.

I don't believe it would work with my ICE vehicle (2014 Chevrolet Caprice). It has a "smart charging" system and it will vary the voltage levels all the way down to 12.3 to 12.5 while driving if the starter battery is fully charged. Nextbase could have simplified the power issue by using an accessory power input to detect when to enter/exit parking mode, but that would have meant the OBD power adapter would have to have some logic built into it to know when to turn on/off the accessory power input to the IQ. I agree with your assessment of the IQ.

It's such a strange decision. They could also incorporate gps or motion logic at least. I just don't understand with all the tech in this thing why they [unintentionally] crippled it so badly.

Great review, the camera seems to have crappy image quality from the samples we've seen. Omnivision sensor instead of what should be baseline Starvis 2 sensors for 2024.

You have to go in settings and drop voltage and see how it goes and keep dropping it until it doesn't go into parking mode

I AGREE MINE SUCKS TOO! THE RECORDING DOES NOT RECORD DRIVING MODE UNLESS YOU RETREIVE WHILE THE DASHCAM IS ON!

A very good video thank you for sharing. Totally agree with the design, the first one I fitted was shocking how big it is and the lack of a swivel hinge for curved screens does mean a fine balance between having the camera perfectly vertical and the image being level and aiming in the right direction. It's just too expensive and with the things you point out, not ideal, the idea is there but it's just missed the mark

Maybe try cam on a different circuit? I have my older Nextbase on an ODB2 port power adapter (with permanently on or delayed off feature), but don't use paring mode like yourself.

I’ve got this in my GT, exact same as you 4K in the GT with front and rear camera and the notifications do my head in. I’ve turned the sensitivty down but it’s still very annoying. I apparently got a traffic violation for an offense a few weeks back come through the post today. So I took out the SD card to look back, and there are massive gaps on the day in the SD card, and so I can’t see the time this traffic violation was meant to have happened. Anybody else get that? My previous NextBase camera (which was a different model on a previous car) would record everything. Anybody else get this issue?

I was really looking forward to this camera, as most are just junk. But the image quality is just crap. Night time plate capture is a joke. And I saw a company rep talk about how much time they spent on image quality, haha.

I have a more base Nextbase that does 1440 p For the price, I have no issues,. Mine has a small base that has the camera mag attach to it. Easy on ands off.

A selectors switch for a computer USB A or b wires. Yes how simple to install a voltage regulator and a relay when your ignition switch is off. 🎉 It does look ugly cuz it looks like a temptation for somebody to rip it off at the front window but at least it has two antennas to go to the cloud or what? Kind of a disappointment having something hanging down there it's a distraction to the view that you notice all the time and you shouldn't have to.

So you bought a dash cam thats made for a gas powered vehicle and installed it in an electric powered vehicle... and it doesn't work... Thats the problem, so now you are mad and disappointed.. That it doesn't work like its supposed to, maybe you should have contacted the dash cam company and asked, do you think that you're new dash cam will work in my new Kia EV. While auto mfg's are busy making new EV's all of the companies out there, that make after market items like dash cams, are not making accessories for EV's.... JUst sayin...
