I have high hopes for this one. Looks like yokomo took inspiration from the popular conversions like the shark and mc-1 to make a proper high performance yd-2 based chassis.

Sweet video! Very informative. Sons and I just got into drifting with 3 RTR’s Yd2. These kits are nice! Thanks for letting me nerd out with you :)

Heck yiss!! 3 YD-2 RTR's!! :D Once I changed the plastic air shocks for plastic oil shocks and turned off the scary boost and did some light chassis tuning for my buddy's kiddo the YD-2 RTR came alive :D

Nice! We were just talking about shocks last night lol. Definitely will be adding a few kits in the future and coming back for more tips :) Thanks. Love the content!

Hey Nezo! Thanks for all your help at the track last week. If I were to be building a more modern drift car (to replace my YD-2S) what would you recommend?
@BadShoppe Жыл бұрын
Howdy :D You are most welcome, see you again soons :D Well you are spoiled for choice...plastic fanastic mode - the Reve-D RDX. For carbon/aluminum machines there are various Yokomo kits like the SD 2.0 or MD 1.0 and more fancy conversion style kit cars like the Reve-D MC-1 or the Rhino Racing Shark. MST's RMX 2.5 chassis has also become hugely popular lately but part support has been super tight. Best budget bang for the buck right now is the Reve-D RDX.

@@BadShoppe Amazing, lots of choices then. I'll be by again soon to keep practicing. I just bought the Pandora Rauh-Welt Begriff Porsche body and wanted to put it on something worthy.

What do you think about the stock setup specs? After completing the SD 2.0 build to the specs in the book, it was the worst setup I've ever seen. Extreme negative camber on the rear wheels, virtually zero droop both front and back. The stock springs are way too stiff. The "new" front knuckles also bind on the lower A arms due to all the extra setup positions. They have to be cut or simply replace with ReveD SG knuckles. Also for me the kit was missing a couple of 1.5mm spacers called for on the knuckles, and the rear toe block inserts were documented incorrectly (shows using #5 inserts, but one picture has the dot inwards, and another shows them outwards). Now with that said, after extensive re-tuning the suspension geometry and replacing the shock springs and retainers (with ReveD parts), the car drives like a dream. :)

Additional comment, the best part of the SD 2.0 is the new gearbox. It is excellent. The MD 1.0 slide rack is better than the SD 1.0 rack, but I wish they included the aluminum rear hubs (in the SD 1.0 kit). The SD 2.0 kit uses plastic ones, and honestly the older "vertical" setup rear hubs are better than these horizontal setup rear hubs. Also this kit really needed to come with better front knuckles. The carbon lower and upper deck, adjustable aluminum front axles, excellent!

Well... the box stock setup is not to my liking however a couple of my buddies felt it was more to their style. I called it medium spicy as it was a bit of a handful on our polished concrete track. Too much negative camber and minimal suspension travel hurt it a lot lol. I don't think I had missing spacers and can;t remember if I seen the mistake about the toe block inserts so I will go back and look for my constructor's digest video. It's good to hear with some good tuning the car can be brought alive, that part makes me excited. I think they could have included some slightly different pieces as you mentioned like the "S" style rear hubs vs the older "E" style. They also want us to buy more upgrades lol...they better hurry up with coloured options tho :D I do like that the 2.0 has more bling returned to it vs the SD 1.0 LTS. Time to tune mine now, out of box shakedown is posted :D

yo! been watching for some time, realized you may be a good person to ask which chassis to get : have a yd2z thats a bit out of wack and am looking to upgrade so i can hang with the guys at the track (concrete track) am considering a shark conversion, an MC1, an MD 1.0 - curious what you think would be the best for learning to tune (would love to build it myself too). Cheers for the great videos
@BadShoppe Жыл бұрын
Aww yiss thank you for watching! :D Well since it's time to go to something with higher tuning potential you are spoiled for choice now-a-days :D The Rhino Racing Shark has just been released in its final form including the "Hydra" chassis decks and it has lots of tuning options with colours. Reve-D's MC-1 conversion kit has been discontinued but is out and about and I see them for sale in roller form (mc1 conversion kit + some donor yd2) all the time now so you may find a nicely equipped unit. Yokomo's MD 1.0 (coloured) in 4 gear mode is a slapper out of the box, has touring car style suspension setup and shorter chassis plates. The MD 1.0 is a complete kit, the Shark you can purchase in stages (starts as a conversion kit) or purchase it with all stages at once and build yourself or purchase the newly released preassembled final form Shark with Hydra chassis decks and the MC-1 is a conversion kit that requires a donor car or find a good used roller chassis someone else already assembled. All of these cars will have high tuning potential and you can learn on any of them really. My choice for this first would be to learn on the MD 1.0, then take the learnings and proceed to something like a MC-1 or Shark :D

I got one of these a couple days ago and so far it’s fucking awesome. But to bad I hooked my battery in wrong and popped the cap on my esc 🤣🤣🤣 not I’m waiting on the replacement for that. But the chassis is really dope. And do you have to buy the extra pieces for the four gear transmission? Cuz mine definitely didn’t have them.
@BadShoppe Жыл бұрын
Oh nuuuu the reverse polarity! The SD 2.0 kits are supposed to have the 4 gear setups and diff mounting plates for 4 gear mode, if yours are missing make sure to contact your dealer / Yokomo. I'm excited to tune my SD 2.0 now that the out of box shakedown is complete :D

It's too bad you didn't like the SD1.0. I had the build issue getting my steering knuckles switched, but mine doesn't have extreme bump steer like yours. There's a little bump-out on the trailing tire at steering angle, but it's nowhere near what we see on yours. I would also add that no matter what kit someone buys, it's going to need some tuning and alignment... except maybe the RDX because it mostly comes out of the box not adjustable. It seems like the Yokomo kit settings are a starting point at best, which is too bad
@BadShoppe Жыл бұрын
I just didn't like the out of box factory setup, the car itself I do like. I have talked to a few SD 1.0 owners that did some tuning etc and they are happy with the car and have each installed different upgrades so far. Most mentioned the crazy bump steer as I had. It was mostly spacers and repositioning the linkages that cleaned that up. Yokomo's out of box setups used to be alright and would get you going good, now they seem to have fallen off and are not as good of a starting point anymore. You are right though about any kit needing tuning, that is for sure. I just like to examine the cars right from the box. The RDX has some adjustability from the box but very little but it drives very well from the box. Tuning time is due now for all my SD cars :D

@@BadShoppe I hear you on their kit settings. I just built a MD1.0 that I won in a raffle and their front track width is far too wide for any of the bodies I own. It was at least in the ballpark for camber/toe. Your constructor digest on the purple edition was most helpful

What’s the difference between the 1.0 and the 2.0 and can I convert the 1.0 to the 2.0

I did a little explanation at the beginning of this video, larger comparison coming soon. I believe it may be possible soon to convert a 1.0 to a 2.0 when parts are released.
