Cant really fault someone too much for writing the music they like. Clearly NF enjoys doing this style. And when i first heard this new album, it came off as driven by his changing life circumstances. Becoming a parent and whatnot.
@accountnew7030
@accountnew7030 Жыл бұрын
but you can clearly see that he hit the plateau. this new album seems like a copy of his previous album but with a slightly different theme. musically there's almost no difference but when it comes to lyrics he's become a little bland, boring and predictable. I like the fact that he's getting better at dealing with his issues and that he's in a happy place in his life but what made him interesting in the first place is his shtick of being this broken guy that goes through the hardships in life and is trying to understand his mind and it's responses to the horrible outside reality. Without it he's just a ... I don't even know just a regular pop artist with a christian twist. I can even predict what his next album is going to be about. it's going to be about him raising his kid, comparing him raising them up with his own childhood and how he is thankful to god for his family and how it gives him inspiration etc etc, while bitching how he's so unique and how other rappers only rap about money and bitkhes (when literally no rapper does that anymore). literally there's only 2 songs out of this album that I would probably listen to everyday. mediocre. can't say more about it and I'm gonna be very surprised if I'm wrong and he actually comes up with a banger album next but I doubt it

The struggles he’s faced with mental health, finding faith, dealing with trauma, not passing that along to his kids, fighting back with his inner child/demons, staying true to himself and his values…he’s an inspiration to me. & the music is good/catchy/moving. To me, i think the idea that what he's doing is 'revolutionary' had less to do with his style, and more to do with his 'journey.' Very few artists had a consistent story/journey they take people on from album to album. Thats not to say it hasnt been done before, but i havent seen someone do it the NF has. Hope, Happy, Motto, and a few other songs from this album were really good to me, and other were hard misses. I still though it was good and am excited to see what comes next because we can see hjm trying to figure out how to fit his style while not losing himself back into that downward spiral he used to sing from previously. Give him some time, he'll figure it out.

He puts a lot of effort in his word choice, cadence, audio engineering, and directing choices. Clearly I’m an NF fan so I wanted to hear how the other side finds his new direction. NF does it differently and most likely one of the best in that category! I'm simply saying the reason NF is getting this hate or "Critiquing" is because he's at the top and he is unique. I get its not everyone's style and that's cool but there is no one near his level and to say this album of them all was a bad one is almost just a plain out insult... NF is actually my favourite musician. Not my favourite rapper, but i like his music style. I like his singing. And the concert i went on was, damn, it was a blast. Really, really good. Although there are some parts i don't enjoy about him. My teeth are gritting when i hear that high pitched voice in some of the songs. The Hope album isn't very deep in meaning, but i think it adds very well to his dicsography. There is some evident growth as a human, especially the song MAMA agains How Could You Leave Us in 2016. Regardless, this is one of the albums i enjoy, i like to return to it and even there is the one song that i hate, and it has not enough SUFFICE. Damn. The biggest problem I see people have with him being he is basically almost not evolving. But, the thing with this album is, it is a getaway to the second half of 2010's for me. And i very much enjoy it. I think this album is enjoyable, i can't really judge him for making the music that he himself likes. I do too.

Yes, you can have that type of time without being compared to Eminem. Ace Hood and Montana of 300 have very aggressive tonality, but they never get compared to Eminem because they bring their own unique vocal styles to it. Ace Hood's " Trials and Tribulations" is a good example.

I think the main difference being the style/genre of the music; with other types of music the words aren't always important (like Metal lol); but with rap, the lyrics are probably the biggest focal point of the tracks, so for [the lyrics] to be similar themes really can make songs feel too 'samey' 🙄

As a longtime NF fan I couldn’t agree more with this review. I walked away with a couple tracks like “Careful” and “Mama” but outside of that this record is below mid. From a guy who can’t stop rapping about his progress and position in music, this record doesn’t sound that far off from his debut nearly a decade ago. I think NF has some genuinely good song ideas and a hell of a lot of passion but the fact that he’s been working with the same producer (Tommy Profit) who keeps tacking on these corny, dated, ugly beats to his records, unchallenged, for over 10 years shows a real lack of progress and challenge. I actuality liked the pop stuff he did on his last album, but this felt like a regression back into the same old thing. Worst song was Bullet. I just can't bring myself to give a single eff about any "I love my wife" song. Also, NF's complaints about the industry are so shallow and weird. The industry is less centralized than ever and the charts and grammies have been crapping themselves trying to catch up. But he still thinks we're in the pre-streaming age, for some reason.

My brother-in-law introduced me to NF with HOPE and I really liked it. Despite what Melon says, given the context of NF's journey it is quite a powerful point in his career. Granted, he is right that the orchestration is quite a bit overboard, though. I haven't dug too far back in his discography, but I could really tell that NF has talent. My brother-in-law has been trying to get me to finish this album, though and I'm just really struggling to get through it. And a lot of what Anthony is saying really describes my feeling toward it. Like, I know this guy has the skill to make something meaningful, but this just feels like hes becoming the sell-out he swears he's not. It's just so formulaic and derivative of so much from the past fifteen years. I know his mental struggles are a major theme in his music, but it really seems like he's at a point where he believes he's taking the steps to become more self aware, but really he's just projecting his own insecurities. Many of which I can empathize with, but still.

It’s also an honor to be able to win a Grammy and be able to perform at an award show but his record label doesn’t even bother to squeeze him in there because he’s going to depress everyone in that room with his “I’m not like any of you” lyrics. I get he thinks he’s an outsider or whatever but he’s already 32 and not in high school, he has money and fame so what exactly makes him feel so depressed about his own life to say he’s not popular or something. I disagree with this analysis, but I understand where he's coming from. Fantano is speaking directly about the music itself, which is his job. Musically it is the same stuff we've heard from Mansion, to Clouds. Conceptually it's miles different however. This album (as all of NF's albums) are made for his fans, not the industry. That's the point he was trying to make throughout this album. When he talks about not being an industry clone, he means that he could push his musical boundaries, but that's not what he makes music to do. He doesn't make music for the recognition of his peers. He makes music to speak to those who really listen to him. I'm not saying you should listen to him, but he makes music for those who do. People from the outside, who don't care about what he has to say, will see monotony in him musically (Fantano). Which is 100% understandable. But for those who have been in really dark places in life and followed NF as he poured his demons out on songs over the last 10 years, this album is his Magnum Opus. For all of those fans who related to the things he's gone through and written about, this album proves to everyone that there is a light on the other side. The album is titled Hope, not because NF is hopeful for anything, but to show all of his fans who he knows go through similar problems, that they need to hold on to Hope. That you will always find your way out of dark places if you work hard enough to. Yes musically this is everything we have heard before, and I'm not arguing with the review in any way. But this album was never created for the Fantanos of the world. It was created for everyone who has been on this journey with him for years, who actually care about the struggles he goes through, and feel like we can connect with him and his journey through his music. This one meant a lot to his fans.

I'm pretty sure Fantano understands that, though. Lol. Like he literally mentioned that he understands how some people may connect with it. So it seems like you don't disagree with his analysis at all. Lol

You call out NF for sticking to the same formula and sound which is working for him..... isn't that what you're doing? Reacting to albums and criticizing them cuz...... it works for you? Huh... crazy how when you find something that works you stick to it...... crazy.... hypocricy doesn't look good on you sir ❤

If this was called “HOPE you come home, the kids miss you” it would’ve been given a 10. Nah for real though I’m a huge NF fan and I actually really loved this album, I thought it was a bit more diverse than his most recent stuff but you also make really valid points. I agree he does act like what he’s doing is revolutionary to the industry, which it isn’t. Not gonna stop me from enjoying his music though I still really love this album. I would like to see a complete reinvention though and for him to work with other producers outside of the one he works with.

I disagree with the opinion that he acts like his music is revolutionary. He just isn’t in step with the shallow aspects of the music industry, and simply wants to live his life.
