NFL Denies 49ers’ Request for White Uniforms Amid Heat Wave

The NFL has turned down a request from the San Francisco 49ers to wear their white uniforms during Sunday's home game against the Arizona Cardinals, despite a heat wave in the Bay Area. The 49ers will instead be wearing their usual red jerseys in temperatures expected to soar to 100 degrees in Santa Clara.
49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan revealed that the team had asked the NFL earlier in the week to switch to white uniforms, hoping to better cope with the extreme heat. However, the league denied the request as uniform changes must be made before the season begins. Shanahan added that while the 49ers couldn’t change their jerseys, they might switch to white pants.
The Arizona Cardinals, as the visiting team, will be wearing all-white uniforms, as per the rules set before the season started. The 49ers' decision to make future uniform adjustments could help them in similar conditions, as Shanahan indicated plans to consider all-white uniforms for home games in October to prepare for potential heat waves.
Despite the extreme temperatures, Shanahan mentioned that players are not being pushed to take pre-game IVs, but several may choose to do so on their own to stay hydrated. The game will kick off at 1:05 p.m. Pacific Time on Sunday, during the hottest part of the day.
