I remember my junior year of high school my mother passed away and the next day I had a shotput competition. That day I threw 43 feet, beating the defending county champion. She was there through every motion of my throw. R.I.P Mama.

When Sean died, I remember my family going to that game, and everywhere you looked people were sobbing, crying, and holding up towels with the number 21 on it, even the opposing fans. Sean Taylor's death affected the NFL as a whole. I wish I got to see Sean play a little bit more. He was just taken too soon.

Joe Dorben He only played for 4 years, he had great potential to go down as the best of all time. But from what he did in his short career I sadly couldn’t give him that title. The saddest thing is in order to qualify for hall of fame you need to play 5 years, he was killed at 4.

As a Baltimore Native I remember the news about Torrey’s little brother. We showed up in force to show support to him and his family. That man did our city proud despite that trauma. These men are some examples of true perseverance. Pushing through the hardest things to overcome and putting on a show for us and trying their hardest to show respect to those loved ones. There are few who are capable of such things.

Every family loses a member at any given time. These people lost someone where they are in the national view. It is tough to perform in that respect. They do not have to, but they decide to. I am sure it is to help take the sting out of the situation. I have respect for that. I feel bad for any of us still living to lose a family member. That is life. Let those you love know it often.

I was sitting at home with my grandparents and we where playing a game of cards and my grandma got a call saying that my preacher at church, also my closest friend, had unfortunately passed away in a car crash. He had baptized me and taught me the religion I know and love today. The next day I had a track meet and placed 1st in the 200m and 400m. I was interviewed by a news team because I scored just enough points for my team to win, I simply said “That out there, wasn’t just me running, that was me and my friends spirit running, R.I.P Danny. I love ya lots brother....” Rest In Peace Danny, ill never forget you.....

My dad spent 2 weeks in the hospital. We knew he was dying soon and I stayed with him every moment except to go play a basketball game. I hit a shot with 0.5 seconds left in the game to put us up by 1 and then a kid hit a half court shot to win it. I cried after. Not because we lost but because I looked in the stands and knew he would never be there again.

Resiliency creates a mental toughness that brings out the amazing performance in people. It creates an overwhelming sense of duty, focus, mental clarity. and more importantly, the will to get things done at all cost. Grieving people "perform" their hearts out. A song touched by grief almost creates the holy matrimony of personal achievements. The power of resilience brings out not the best but the greatest personal achievements out of people. That is what we are witnessing here. Greatness in the face of adversity. And that is why they will be remembered.
