@@effluviah7544 That's upsetting. I commonly used question-based online filing with tax preparation services, but those options do cost some money to save energy from having to do math. That said, the IRS will be opening up Free File in January for this tax year. If your AGI is below $72K, you can have access to free filing services from the IRS site where you do no math and just answer questions based on your relevant documents and information. To be fair, this is only for federal taxes, but it will save you money and headaches for at least that filing. Another assurance is that the IRS will generally let you know without malice if you made a tiny mistake on your forms. They will tell you what's missing or wrong with a proposed amendment of you return, give you a refund if you over-reported, and give you options for paying whatever you still owe (with some interest and a failure-to-pay penalty). It's only if you aren't reporting a significant amount of money that you owe taxes on that you could be audited and charged with tax evasion; we're talking side-businesses and a whole second jobs' worth of income, so it's not widely applicable to most people. Basically, it's fine to over-report taxes because they'll only give you back what you didn't owe. If you are a small-fry working class citizen, you probably aren't in real danger of arrest. You can rest easy, even if you make math mistakes.

It's always the people who care the most about how other people see them, who talk the loudest and longest about how much they don't care what other people think. Meanwhile the people who actually, genuinely don't care about other people's opinions, don't bother wasting energy on letting people know they don't care. They just ignore what other people think and move on. Or they pay no attention in the first place. It's the same with people who constantly talk about how strong and tough they are. If they were actually as strong and tough as they claim, they wouldn't need to tell anyone. It would be obvious for all to see. And the people who are actually that strong and tough, don't need to boast about it. Because they *know* how strong and tough they are. They don't need to prove it to anyone, least of all themselves. It's that Tywin Lannister quote: "Any man who has to say 'I am the king' is no true king."

@Adser2613 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the ignorance but why exactly is people knowing your Social Security Number is a bad thing? I understood that the SSN is a personal identifier, which would make it similar to the DNI we have here in Peru. Which is basic public knowledge, anyone can go and check that information since the government has a webpage that allows you to to search the details by name or number. It being public is the entire point of the system, so anyone can easily verify that the one they are making a deal with is the person who they say they are. So it is a requirement to do anything, but it is not the ONLY requirement, so having others know your number is a non-issue.
@TheOdinsLance3 жыл бұрын
@@Adser261 in the US your SSN is not public knowledge. It has a lot of weight when verifying your identity specifically because no one is supposed to know it but you (and the government). That alone can be used to do a lot in your name. Like open credit cards in your name and things of that nature. And even in situations where you need more info, the SSN is often enough to get that info through some means.
@Adser2613 жыл бұрын
@@TheOdinsLance So how exactly is it used if only you and the government know it? Does each business has to make a special, private coordination with the government to validate this information? And why would that be enough to open a credit card? Here the DNI has a lot of information to identify the owner (name, sex, date of birth, updated photo, etc.) so it would be blatantly obvious that the person attempting to open a credit card is not the one who owns the number. A business could still go forward and do the transaction, but that would open them to terrible consequences if the one affected makes a complain or demand. It seems like a badly designed system if so much weight of it's security is based on the secrecy of something you have to share with multiple sources anyway.
@JulesJuno7373 жыл бұрын
My exact thought, you KNOW there's gonna be a breach, I don't even trust them with my main email..... you'll get the Yahoo one and like it.. Foh..
@TheOdinsLance3 жыл бұрын
@@Adser261 I think there might be a bit of confusion. Your SSN is just a number. You're not expected to carry it on you for daily use, you're actually just expected to memorize it. We have another card that has stuff like our date of birth, gender, physical characteristics and a photo on it. That would be safe to pull out to prove your identity on the spot since the other person would need your SSN to do anything with that info. And yes, you do have to make an account with a government service to confirm a SSN. I don't know the specifics, but it probably just gives you the info off of that person's other ID to cross reference to prove their identity in a more concrete way. Since you need to prove your own identity to the government to make this account, you can't use it for dubious purposes or the government would be able to track you down. The people you give it to are also expected to store it securely or they get in trouble if the info is leaked or abused. Also they'd be the first suspects, so it would be pretty dumb on their part to just use it to do something like open a bank account or start a credit card.

NFT’s aren’t the JPEG’s, they’re a unit of data that acts as a digital certificate confirming ownership of the JPEG.

@@Shadest It's even better/worse than that. The NFT links to a website where the JPEG is hosted. That website can disappear from the internet at any time, regardless of what happens to the blockchain. So you can end up with a receipt for a link that points to fucking nothing. WHICH HAS ALREADY HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES. It would be like buying the proof of ownership of the original Mona Lisa, except you don't then get to take it out of the gallery it's housed in. And then the art gallery it's housed in burns down, and the painting is destroyed. And all the art galleries in this analogy are soaked in petrol and lit by candlelight.

This reminds me of when an art gallery paid someone 100k to fill a slot and he stapled 100s to canvas and framed it they sent it back to him and he took the dollars off the canvas made it blank and sent it back and they hung it for a venue.

It doesn't matter if a thing is ACTUALLY valuable. What matters is if people think the thing has value. Take the dollar for example. Its just paper, cloth, ink. Is it really valuable? No. Does it matter? No. thats the agreed upon unit of currency for trade so it has value. The dollar isn't even backed by gold anymore. Nfts ARE stupid. But it doesn't matter.
