You said exactly what I'd have said. KRO. Wayne Rooney is the reason we went down. Yes, the owners made a mistake in him and the players should have done better, but Rooney threw winning style out of the window and arrogantly stuck to his guns. Waited to be sacked rather than resigning when it was clear he couldn't do the job. And still blamed THE FANS 😮 Relegation is on him. Rowett proved the players could do it, given belief, etc. Norwich beaten play off semi finalists and we beat them. Rooney's team would have been soundly beaten.

Last season I went through this experience for the first time with my club, Santos FC. A club that once had Pelé, who died the same year the club was relegated, Neymar, Rodrygo and many other players are now in the Brazilian second division. When we lost the game in the last round and our fate was confirmed, I confess I wasn't very sad. But a few months later, when the Brazilian championship started and I saw that Santos wouldn't be there, I discovered that our disaster was really real. I feel sorry for Birmingham, such a traditional club like others in English football that cannot stay in the top division. We will all come back stronger one day. As Santos fans like to say, “not loving you will never be an option.”

I understand the feeling completly and it is soul crushing. Im a fan of Vitoria de Setubal and a few years ago we were directly relegated from the portuguese 1st division all the way down to the 3rd tier, it was due to bad management but just 3 years later we went down to the 4th tier (wich is this year)... the lowest the club has ever been and it breaks my heart every single day... but this same year where we entered the 4th tier, were on our way to go up immedeatly through sheer will power and a lot of support from all sadinos. Most important is to keep ur head up, support the players and the club, show your love and just try to be present but also be hopefull that things will get better. Much love from Portugal to all birmingham city fans, thing will get better

Villa fan here, really sad to see BCFC drop so badly and been messed around with it just shows that the owners need to be setting an example and don't just use a football club as a money spinner. A football club needs love and full on support not just money. I hope one day they are back in the prem and the midlands derby is back. I know villa and brum fans can be really aggressive to each other but without your rivals then football is dead. I hope the blues get back up and are up there again where they belong with the other midlands teams. Fingers crossed they bounce back up to championship again. Its a hard league to get out of.

Here's an incredible milestone for you. When I began following football around the end of the 70s/beginning of the 80s, Birmingham City were a top flight club with Archie Gemmill, Mark Dennis, Frank Worthington, Dave Langan, Jeff Wealands & Alan Curbishley on their books & the late, great "Bald Eagle" Jim Smith in charge. The West Midlands had more top tier clubs than London at that time (Villa,B'ham,Coventry,WBA & Wolves, whereas London only had Arsenal, Palace & Spurs). Doesn't seem possible, knowing that a rathole like London never has less than 6 clubs in the PL at any one time now (currently with 7 clubs). Jim Smith did a marvellous job at Newcastle with literally no money available & I still rate the Eagle as an underrated legend...

Yes but they'll bounce straight back,, we'd have done it first attempt as well if it wasn't for a ridiculous top 3 last season and that's after the mess we were in,, we literally had 5 players during that summer and had to throw a side together under restrictions and still finished 7th which was after another one of our collapses from Feb,, we were 4th and within spitting distance of 2nd, wed caught Ipswich just after the new year. Birmingham do not have all those problems,, theyll have a very weak L1 as well, Bolton go up tomorrow there's no challenger to them the rest are quite average.

Is it a lesson that Hull and Norwich might not have learned sacking their manager's after finishing 7th and 6th

yes relegation is gutting as I been there with my team and this is where a team that goes down has to show resilience in the next season in adapting to the new conditions but with clubs like Birmingham should bounce back. I mean my team is Ipswich and we spent 4 years in league one and until circumstances changed like new owners which was the one thing we needed as Evens was running the club into the ground but with the perseverance and building back the fans faith in the club and being wise with what we spent the money on makes all the difference and our fortunes have turned. Remember we were out the premiership 22 years ago. I will say that Birmingham did the same thing as Ipswich with having a manager who name is more famous than their coaching qualities. We had Roy Keane and look at what he did and I will say that in the same comparison to Birmingham. Birmingham is a club that should have never gone down, but it bad choice in choosing Rooney was the start of a spiral and having too many changes in management does not help the players either as they have to keep adapting to each manager styles from scratch and leaves them unsettled.

They have a decent sized supporter base and carry the name of England's second largest city. They should be a giant. It could be a smart investment for the new owners providing they have the smarts for how run a football club etc.

it might turn out to be a blessing to have been relegated so the new ownership team can get their bearings and figure things out and then make your way back to the EPL and be a constant. it is a punch to the gut when your team is horrible but sometimes the ability to regroup and come back stronger and more consistent is what is needed.

Without the bitter the sweet ain't so sweet. I remember when we (Leicester) got relegated to League One, it was the first time it had happened in our history. Our best claim to fame was 6 FA cup finals runners up, and never being outside the top 2 flights. Turns out out relegation to league one was the beginning of the best time of our existence. We came back first time, had a few goes at the Championship and the rest everybody knows. But my point is, keep supporting your home team, they need you and you're already screwed because you invested far too much. Who knows where you will bounce back to. This is the bitter, the sweet will be there down the line. Edit: Also, it was definitely the Rooney appointment that completely screwed you over!

The rooney experiment was a major cause for the blues going down. He was struggling at dc United, and because the american owners wanted to boost their online socials its cost them. Eustace saved them from relegation previous season then this season got the blues in a play off spot 4pts clear of 7th place. Real bad decisions the board made i hope for the loyal fans they come straight bk up

Cov fan here, couldn't believe it when they sacked Eustace to be replaced with Rooney. Under Rooney they were one of the worst teams I'd seen at the CBS this season (though it was brilliant hearing all the fans, Birmingham included singing there's only one John Eustace together), but it seemed they really got the players playing towards the end of the season, just a little bit too late (thumped us 3-0 when our mind was on the cup). I've got no Beef with Birmingham and appreciate what they did for my team, hope they come back up, but as any team that goes down from the Champ soon can find out, it's easier to sldie into L2 sometimes than come back up and it's one of those divisions you can easily get stuck in.

I'm a Huddersfield fan, our relegation was a bit of different feeling as was a long time coming and been an utterly miserable season; felt more relief that the crappy season was over than upset at relegation. Fanbase just completely apathetic by the end of it. League One is looking rough next season 😬 I would hope we would be pushing for an immediate return but expecting some brutal competition at the top!

As a Pompey fan I really hope Birmingham City go up at the first time of asking because League One is a hard league to get out of. Just ask the likes of Ipswich Town, Coventry City,Sheffield Wednesday, Derby County,Bolton Wanderers and a few other 'upper tier' teams. Once you miss out on the first season,it becomes a nightmare.

You know, it's kinda funny you happened to go to St Andrews when we got sent down. Even my dad and I (Birmingham City family) had to laugh, only we could do our job on the final day, have three unlikely results not go our way, and really we'd have been safe if we could just beat the bottom two in the run-in...

So, I'm an American and not a football fan [soccer, that is]. I have friends who are, one an Arsenal Gooner and one who loves Leeds. I pick up some of the EPL system from them, and yeah, Welcome to Wrexham as well. My Leeds friend hit me with an interesting turn of phrase I thought some of you might appreciate. "The hardest individual skill in sports is hitting an MLB fastball but the single hardest thing for a team and organization to do is come back from Premier League relegation and stay there." Props to my buddy Andy for that one.
