This game may not quite be a perfect experience to me considering that not all older jerseys are available for each team plus some of the left bumper moves are a bit trickier to pull off but these are fairly minor setbacks. The game has all five major improvements since NHL '11 which are improved puck physics, an advanced face-off system, hip checks, broken sticks and trigger sensitive passing plus the True Performance Skating engine which is the most innovative addition to the franchise since the skill stick in NHL '07. This was my first hockey game since NHL '10 and was well worth the wait. This may seem like a dumb question but does anyone know which game introduced the stat-tracker or highlight reel feature shown in between periods and at the end of the game?

I think the game is an exceptionally enjoyable experience as long as the gameplay is even. Adjust the AI learning bar to 50% which is found somewhere I think in the gameplay settings menu and the gameplay is more even and fair.

Hockey is in the Winter Olympics, and is incredibly popular in Sweden, Finland, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, and Russia. Maybe if you went back 100 years, you could say it was mainly practiced in North America.

Swedish person here, when I was younger, this is how I was taught about the continents: North and South America, Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia and Oceania (nowadays, Australia is counted to Oceania as far as I know) while Antarctica and Arctic are both counted as continents, but not really mentioned that often. When we say America, normally we just means the USA. Or just it means North + South like it's supposed to mean. Note that this is how I was taught around the area I (me, myself) live in

it's awesome, but the new skating momentum thing takes some getting used to, & the goalies are WAY better when the CPU controls them. Graphics get a boost also. It's really the best version of the game & I've had 09,10,11, & skipped 12. It's great

Ya, that would be cool, but a lot of players have or will start going over to Europe. The NHLPA has organized some things where they have NHLers go to visit some kids. Like there were a bunch of players that went to the town where the NHL pre-season game was supossed to be held for Kraft Hockeyville. But I dont think there will be much compinsation for any one involved.

I believe it is the greatest sport, its the toughest high speed contact sport that requires more athletic skill than any other sport.

Compared to 12 this game relies more heavily on playing a positional game and making judgement calls on gap control.Likewise offensively a forward has to choose when its best to "hustle" or when to deke.Goalies are now able to make many desperation saves,however shots tend to beat the tenders more easily.One beef I have are the controls.The hustle button which is used frequently is the left analog held in.After playing a few hours of competitive gameplay it feels very awkward and uncomfortable.

If the goalies are standing on the goal line, its the easiest time to get a goal, just snipe it top corner, they won't have any chance of stopping it.

i have got cross crease goals in this game they just decreased the chance to score with them and that's good because most people who play nhl games rely on cross crease way to much this might actually teach people how to use every player that is playing instead of 2 people trying to play 2 vs 5 hockey

This is honestly the first NHL game made by EA (from 07) that I have actually flat out enjoyed at the majority of what it has to offer. From the new skating (WHICH IS FREAKING BRILLIANT) too the graphics, and the the different lighting for each arena, which is just an amazing touch. This is a must buy for any hockey fan. Wow, EA, you really surprised me and for that...dare I say it, thank you!

I only used 'regular' to make a differentiation, yeah they are both normal, but are diferent. Here, where I live we use only the word olympics to talk about the summer one, and when we are talking about the other one, we always says winter olympics. Well, I like both, but I agree, winter sports are more interesting to see, the only problem to me is that my country doesn't have much winter athletes, so the summer one is more convenient to me.

yeah bud, 8.5 is a solid score. Not everyone is a Hockey fan. Taking out the arcade feel to make it feel more authentic will push away a lot of the casual hockey gamers (which is probably why its not a higher score), but for us hockey buffs ... its right up our alley :)

i hate how the devs arent willing to shell up the money in order to create a more authentic game, you see it firsthand in this video, chicago stadium, really? friggin 2k doesnt have chicago stadium for nba. its called United Center. the madison square garden naming is still an issue as well.

sure they made the goalies a little tougher to score on but sometimes the save attempts are so stupid like stacking the pads when there is a cross crease btw yes there are many commentators out there way better then gary thorne and bill clement

To make a decent pass takes a lot more effort on NHL 13. Long passes that are succesfull strictly relies on chance. Skating can be awkward as well as unpredictable when you approach the puck. I would rate this game 7 out of 10

I don't like Easports game since a lot of years. You don't control the game so much. For sure, you can move or shot the puck in the direction you want, but the software is the one who decide if you miss or not. You can make a perfect play, even if you have an empty net, the software can decide that your shot will miss. Then it can make a cpu player score on a weak shot. In the 90's, maybe their game were too easy, but they were also more fun.

You've obviously never been to an actual hockey game. I'm British and when i was 8 my family went on holiday to Colorado and we my dad and i randomly went to go see a hockey game and i was absolutely blown away. Hockey players don't get enough credit for how skilled and talented they are. My top 3 would have to be Football (soccer), MMA yes it is a sport - i do it and its bloody demanding! and a toss up between Hockey, Rugby Union and Hand-egg (NFL) lol

The new skating system is fine...when you control ONE PLAYER, when you switch between players too fast they get stuck on their edges and can't accelerate right and you end up in various odd man situations. Definitely a step BACKWARDS.

see that no one tried to answer your question, to go to the olympics, a sport needs a minimal number of countries officially practing the sport, with local competitions I think, football and baseball as hockey are more practiced in north america, not much in the rest of the world.

Because hockey, american football and baseball don't have worldwide leagues and appeal. Soccer's played in the Olympics. Basketball has leagues all around the world, even if it did originate in America. It's pretty popular over here in Australia.
