Fantastic tribute to the legends. I grew up idolizing Terry Sawchuk and Gump Worsley in the Original 6 era. After 4 lost teeth and 3 broken noses, I got a cage mask, which changed everything about the game. I believe there are THREE ERAS of goaltending that should be judged on their own criteria: Pre-Mask, Post-Mask and the BUTTERFLY era.

Roy at number1... Roy revolutionized the position and has 4 Cups! While Hasek was definitely entertaining and could get on a hot streak he, and nobody was a complete a goalie as Roy. Man the top 3 just depends on what you think is more valuable. Brodeur was the most consistent top 2-3 goalie in league history. When hasek had a great game he was probably better than any goalie ever. Roy seemed to have a competitive dial he could turn up more than anyone else when the games were really important. As an avs fan I’m very biased towards Roy. If my team was playing one game and it’s literally life or death...give me patrick!

That is my main argument every time I debate someone about the best goalie. Roy is the only player, nevermind goalie, to win 3 Conn Smythe awards. Hasek may be the best regular season goalie ever but if you combine reg seasons and playoffs, it's Roy without a shadow of a doubt. The way he carried Montreal to a cup with all those OT wins as a ROOKIE vs a Gretzky led team was something to behold

Crawfords just one of the most disrespected goalies of all time he easily deserves to be on this list. Tbh Rinne was sick but when you compare career sv%, Crow and Rinne line up pretty well, even individual awards are pretty similar. However, Crow was a playoff beast and won two cups. that kinda puts him ahead of Rinne imo. And don’t say the whole “team award argument” because Crow literally was a top 5 player for the Hawks every run while Rinne was kinda known for falling apart in the playoffs at time

How is Roy only 3? The only reason he doesnt have more wins during his time was because there were ties. Broduer played a long time in the NHL where there is no ties. @bradleyhenry2411

@Murphy Habs I acknowledge that Roy revolutionized the position, but Hasek literally carried the Sabres to playoff positions hence the 2 Harts and Lester Pearson's. Also carried Czech to a gold on olympics. He has the best goalie stats too. Roy has pretty much always had the better team in front of him, so he's never really had to carried.

@Murphy Habs both 86 and 93 Habs teams were better than any Sabres team Hasek had though. Everyone agrees those Sabres teams weren't playoff teams without Hasek. Hasek even came into the league late and still put up monster stats.

Brodeur doesn't even belong in the top 5. He played a long time, which is why he has great stats, but he rarely had any real shots against him. He has some of the lowest shots against of any goalie. He played behind one of the best defensive systems of all time. Not to say he wasn't great, he was. But he is not a top 5 goalie.
