For a bit of context: the reason he was sent to Hillerska (the boarding school) was not necessarily to prevent him from doing the things he was doing before, but to prevent scandals. Basically, there’s an unspoken rule of “what happens at Hillerska stays at Hillerska”, so the Queen sent him there to basically allow him to behave as he was before without worrying about people finding out.

Something interesting about the show is almost all the actors on the show, including the main characters of Wilhelm, Simon, Sara, Felice, Erik and August also did the English dubs for their characters. I didn’t realize how fluent in English they all were. Only a handful of characters required different actors for the English dub.

Yea, Scandinavian countries are often very good at English. I'm a year younger than Edvin (the actor who plays Wilhelm), and I started learning English in school at age 8. Nowadays, people/kids learn English in kindergarten. Most older people have a harder time with English, but from my experience, the teachers are generally harder with grammar and spelling in English than Swedish, which is ironic. That may just have been my schools tho, I can't speak on anyone else.

I'm not an English native speaker, but I've watched it in both, Swedish with English subtitles and in English, and I think that the Swedish version is a little bit better, with more believable emotions. It is the native language of actors, so in original Swedish version there are little nuances, which are lost in English version even if they dubbed it by themselves. It is a beautiful show, and in original version it is just..more.

Fun fact: The actor playing Wilhelm was an actual teenager during the filming of both S1 (17 years old) and S2 (19 years old). He was also a high school student himself during the filming of S1 and S2 (He graduated from high school in June 2022. They finished filming S2 in May 2022) They will finish filming the 3rd and last season next week.

The playlist is freaking awesome! The director/ show runner Rojda Sekersöz said how they were very intentional in finding diverse, mostly Swedish based artists - same as they were with the casting. As for the dubbing - at least it's the actors' own voices.

While the Swedish version is “better”, the English dubbed is fascinating because it’s all the original actors doing their own English dubbing. I think that’s brilliant. That way, they know exactly the emotion of the character since they acted the scenes, which i think mates for more of an authentic dub.

As far as watching the dubbed versus the subbed version, the actors have dubbed their own dialogue, as they all speak English. So, if you're watching the English dub, you are hearing their actual voices.

My nephew used to go to a school where there were a lot of rich people. Once he said, people with real money don't treat poor people badly, they adopt the poor, pay for them, they give them gifts, the ones who treat poor people badly is because they think they can become poor easily. About the dubbing: the feelings are not there because they are pasted on in post-synchro dubbing - even the original actors cannot replicate their feelings and verbal expressions weeks/months after the shootings. Also, the acoustics are not the same, emphasizing the feeling of disconnection with the visuals (where the lip movements follow the original Swedish, not the dubbed version). A bit like a crude photoshopped picture.

I kind of get the differnce in tone in the Sweding and english audios, but I still get more out of watching the dub since I do not understand Swedish and would be missing the story looking at the actors, or instead reading te subtitles while not being able to pay attention to the actors. That being said, I'm really glad so many of the original cast came back for the Englisch dub, which is why I watch that version instead of my native language german with totally differt voice actors. Yeah, I find it slightly funny that the two characters who are brothers have completely different accents. Like they very clearly learned English from different teachers. One has more american-sounding accent the other one has a more British sounding accent... And yet they're meant to be brothers. I totally understand it isn't the actors fault that they got taught English from people with different accents... Or or potentially chose to learn a more British accent or more American accent. But yeah, that wouldn't happen in English show, even in a Dubbed one,...they would have family members have the same accent.

They do the English dubbing themselves, that means after the show is filmed, edited and cut in the original Swedish version, they go into a recording studio and do the audio in English. The Swedish version is the only one spoken while fiming, so it's the only one that has the emotions of the moment.

@@Mike-cs8bp They did a great job doing the dubbing themselves so it's way better than usual dubbing, this way the characters still stay authentic with their own voices and everyone can enjoy it in English or the Original with subtiles, as they prefer. It's actually so interesting that if you listen to Edvin for example speaking Swedish and English in interviews his voice actually sounds different 🙂

English dub means they do the English audio in a recording studio after the Swedish original has been filmed, edited and cut. The Swedish original is what's spoken in the scenes while they are filmed, that's why the emotions are way stronger in the Swedish version because it captures the authentic feeling of the moment.

If I want to hear the emotions (not just See them on the actors face), I watch the original, but if I want to hear the plot, I watch the dub. Both very valid, and on this large internet we are on there is space for both versions.
