Excellent video. A wheel builder's therapy. I replaced all the spokes on the freewheel side of my mountain bike with stainless steel spokes. No more spokes breaking. I use a 5 gallon bucket to hold the wheel while I put spokes in them. It frees up both hands so I can work faster. Keep up your instructional videos. I really like them!

I blow up hubs on mountain bikes like it's my job lol. So instead of paying 125 bucks to have a wheel built every time and waiting a week for my bike shop to get around to it, I taught myself how to build/true wheels. It probably takes me 3x as long to do it right but it's definitely satisfying knowing you saved some money and didn't have to miss a bunch of rides cause the bike shop was busy. Nice tips btw with that box and those spoke nipple tools you use.

1:41 make several such bits with different lengths of the middle part, when you assemble the wheel, while initially tightening the nipples with an electric screwdriver, so that all the nipples on the same side are equally tightened

The shorter spokes go in the drive side, the longer spokes on the non drive side.
@NiceBikeService24 күн бұрын
Thank you for your comment. The length of the spokes is very individual, depending on the wheel hub
@makantahi373125 күн бұрын
8:05 double mistake, you should always start lace the wheel from the right side, where the cassette is, the other thing is that those spokes should be on the right side and not on the left, because they are the most loaded spokes that transmit power from the pedals, and if the chain falls, in in your case, chain would have cut right spokes that come from outside
@NiceBikeService25 күн бұрын
thanks for the advice ! 😘
@makantahi373125 күн бұрын
11:05 you have a complicated way of knitting the wheel, it's simpler to put two parallel spokes at the beginning that determine the number of crosses and you no longer have to think about where each spoke goes, you just count to 4 and you connect the nipple and the spoke

Are you putting oil on the nipple threads? From what I read and from what I spoke with wheel assembly artisans, which I also do, they do not agree with putting oil on the thread of the nipple, nor on the spoke. This will make it easier for the spoke to loosen and lose centering. At most what can be done is to use a minimum of light lubricant on the outside of the nipple so that the friction against the inner wall of the rim is reduced a little and it is easier to achieve the necessary spoke tension.
@NiceBikeService24 күн бұрын
Each mechanic has his own opinion. I apply a little liquid lubricant to the threads for more even tension and to prevent oxidation of the spokes.
@threeDeeBeginner12 күн бұрын
no, thread needs lubricant otherwise you can't achieve what's called a preload in mechanic. The only moment you don't need lubricant, it's when a prelub was applied and it's only for factory. There is a big misinterpretation because bike industry is not the same than cars.
@mistergiovanni718311 күн бұрын
@@threeDeeBeginner I don't think there is a law and I think each specific application is different. In the case of the spoke thread I don't understand the point of lubricating, on the contrary, it would be more logical to use a Loctite 242, however it seems logical to me to use a light lubricant for the outside of the nipple since that is what is putting pressure on the rim and helps achieve proper beam tension.
