The nice lady is back! I love these lenses as well. I think from 50-70mm the second zoom is just OK, and it starts to become magical from 70mm on up. For the wide zoom I prefer the Vista full frame, that lens is pure magic at all focal lengths. But like you said, the Vistas are heavier.

Great to have you back as a reviewer and thanks for this nice review. :-) I do own the older Tokina Cine 11-16mm which is also great (but has a bit less controlled CAs) and 2 of the first gen Tokina Cine 50-135mm T3.0. It seems Tokina made a lot of improvements to the first gen. For example the gears on mine are in a bit awkward positions, the focus gear has a point in the middle where it seems to stick a bit and the lens support holes are not perfectly centered so it takes a bit of force the screw a lens support in (like the one from Bright Tangerine). And when I turn the aperture from t4.0 to t3.0 there isn't much of a brightness change - this depends a bit on the focal length tho. Is this better on your MKII? All in all the image from the 35-100mm is special and I love it for talking heads. The only thing which looks like to be not improved in the MKII seems to be the focus breathing which especially at 50mm is still very distracting. If they ever make an MKIII I would love to have the focus breathing fixed and a faster T-stop.

Thank you for your review - much appreciated. FYI, we purchased this for our Red Gemini and at 5K resolution there is heavy vignetting below 15mm and had to return. Sounds like it was not a problem on your camera - did you encounter this?

Thank you for the detailed review. Love your content! the 11-20mm has absolutely no breathing. I had heard the 50-135 also did not breathe (in an old NAB interview with a Tokina Rep), but in your test it looks like it does, although controlled. The 135 end seemed less pronounced than the 50 end.

Great observation! I think I'll retest the lens at 50, 100 and 135 and compare it to footage from some photo telephoto lenses.

have you ever tested sensor coverage of the 50-135 on full frame? I am looking at it for it's versatility but I use full frame cameras. I can put them in to s35 mode, but I was curious how much vignetting may occur with the 50-135. thanks!

Yeah, their website states the image circles for: ATX 11-20mm ⌀30.0mm ATX 16-28 MKII ⌀45.1mm ATX 25-75mm ⌀36.0mm ATX 50-135mm MKII ⌀31.2mm So for a full frame no vigneting that’s the 16-28mm.. Then I was surprised to see that the zoom 25-75 has a 36mm image circle. So with black bars top and bottom we might have an option?

cool video. one bit of info : don't try to check colmination or flangeback adjustment stopped down. you should do it wide open otherwise DoF will hide a margin of error. Also don't focus wide open and stop down as that can also cause focus to shift, don't ask how I know.

Great review and lovely footage! I am in love with the Komodo and the look coming from the Red color science. Have you tested out any of the Fujinon or DZOFilm lenses of similar focal lengths? I'm curious how they would compare to the Tokinas. I've only tested the Fujinon 50-135 and while I loved the sharpness and look, it was just too large. I was also using it on a Sony A7siii. I think the body of these mirrorless cameras are too small, it just felt unbalanced and hard to manage when paired with such a small camera body.

I have used the Fujinon on a Sony F7S, I like how light they are but they are so long. I don't think I'd run anything longer on the Komodo than the 80-135 because as you say balancing becomes a problem. A standard 70-200 would even be would be crazy unless you're filming strictly on a tripod or shoulder mount or counterbalancing with v-mount. Cheers!

Hi, you might also look into the cine-rehousings of the sigma art still lens zooms. There is a company "Cinematics" that rehouses them and makes them work as parfocal unlike sigmas own cinema line. the 18-35 has no breathing. the 50-100 has lots of breathing, but I dont have a big problem with that. Ive got myself a set of them. Those Tokinas look beautiful, but the aperture of T2.9 is a bit of a dealbreaker for me.

Awesome vid. Just curious what sharpening tool you use in FCPX? The built in Sharpen plugin in FCPX never looks right to me. I also use the Raven and yes it's very soft right out of camera

Thanks. Yes I use the basic FCPX sharpening tool but never go over the 2 points as at the standard 2.5 it's too much. When using Davinci I go to minus 48 or 47 on my last node and there's also the output setting in REDCINE that can be used (unsharpened mask). I think the DaVinci and RED CINE are the best but the FCPX works, I just wouldn't use it on other footage as it isn't as good as an unsharpen mask.I often don't sharpen RED footage, it depends what I'm going for.

What's your take on the 11-20 CA performance? I picked up the 25-75 and I am IN LOVE with it. I just need something wider. But I hear the CA on the 11-20 is pretty bad :/

Hey, I've never noticed any CA in the images I've shot, perhaps it has to do with me controlling exposure but it hasn't been anything I've seen that was striking. Perhaps you can try tracking down more footage from the lens.

@@NiceLadyProductions I looked at the CVP test of the lens and it showed HEAVY CA on the edges. I was going to get it as a compliment to my 25-75 but now I am more hesitant.

Hey! If size isn't a consideration and you shoot sometimes with full frame cameras I'd go with the 16-28. I love that range.

I’ve looked at the Fuji one (in fact I shoot fuji for photography and their equipment is stellar) but I opted for the tokina because I feel it’s a more usable focal range for documentary type work I want to do. I also got the 11-20 and they pair very well! In the end it was cheaper than the two Fuji lenses AND you now both lenses are on sale and you can use the 5% discount in the description of this video. And if you live outside of CA you don’t pay tax so it’s a win win!

Hey! Yes. They are Super35 lenses so they cover the MFT sensor of the BMPCC4K with a Speedbooster just like any Super35 (crop sensor) lens.

@@tunatech Well if you need something wider than the 18-35 I'd start with the 11-20, but if I had to only buy one I'd buy the 50-135. You might find you don't need to bring your two telephoto lenses with you as much. Or wait for the 25-75 if you like that range.
