Great ideas on niche(ing) … (is that even a word…lol…) Here’s my experience. I have two main focuses on my channel, sharing my two loves… CounselorSue - The Variety Show… Outdoor activities and Knitting. I gain subscribers for each category. The outdoor subscribers stay with me. And this is true of the knitting friends. I post each subject each week = two videos a week, sometimes more. For example, during Summer I can post more about outdoor activities, camping and related topics. No matter where I am or what I’m doing, I’m always knitting, so I post those videos. What I found was, the campers also liked knitting, and knitters also liked camping. One subscriber wrote to tell me that “we watch for you Sue, you and Stan”. So, it’s possible to draw in like minded viewers who like your subject and “you” (or … me and Stanley 70 & 81). There are KZbinrs I follow because of the person. I think… “What’s happening with Lindy out there in California living in her van full time?” And so, I check in to see what’s happening. I also check in to your videos because I like your personality, your style in teaching (you are definitely a teacher), and you present valuable information in a new way. There are tons of videos available on how to grow your channel, BUT… none like you! So part of the appeal in a channel is connecting with the presenter, or how things are presented. Anyway, All is good… having fun! Sue in Orangeville, Ontario, Canada.

A channel is like a closet. I have multiple closets, and I like everything that I have in those closets but to stay organized I prefer all my cloths to be in the same closet, everything I need in the kitchen is in a different closet, etc. As long as your channel holds a logical group of videos that I like, I will visit your channel. Those are different topics but speaking to the same audience. Will YT understand my channel? Thanks!
@AlexaSaarenoja2 ай бұрын
That is a lot to have in one channel. I think that could be four different channels. The reason I feel it is too much is I had to read it three times to understand it myself. I do see how all those topics are related but I definitely think you could focus on one or two of those ideas at most and have more success with the algorithm. For example helping home school moms with mindset and inner healing so they can show up better for their kids could be one channel. Teaching moms how to homeschool another. Teaching how to make an income from home another…if there one of these topics you are most passionate about? You could always expand later to those other topics, but it wood be beneficial in the beginning to get going to focus down a bit more. Hope this helps and probably not what you want to hear. 😬 Wishing you the best with it! ❤️❤️

Well helping entrepreneurs would niche it down a bit more which I think is good in a very competitive niche already. Plus entrepreneurs are short on time, so you could help them find ways to integrate building an aesthetic body into their busy schedule. But I would do some research first and see if there is a niche for this or a market rather. You could look on google trend and compare the niches. I feel like niching down too much helps in the short term - but doesn’t it limit you for longevity? One of my favorite KZbinrs is uncomfy and it’s loosely her art biz but also about her as a person - which also broadens her sponsor opportunities
@AlexaSaarenoja2 ай бұрын
I'm in the boat that niching down helps you to grow..once you grow, have more authority and more subs, then you can expand into different areas if you want to. For example, Amazon started as a book store, online books, they focused in on one thing and did it well, now they sell anything and everything. Many people, products and companies start that way, focused and then expand once they grow. So although it might feel limiting now, it can allow for more opportunities later on. In my opinion. :) xoxo

@@AlexaSaarenoja I guess I've heard both from youtubers - Katie Steckly recommends not to niche down too hard early on because when you try to broaden you'll just lose your audience. I think it's hard because I am an individual - not a faceless company. I guess it's whatever works best for you.

I just found you a day ago and really appreciate your videos! I was wondering if you might have advice for me. I have been working my channel pretty consistently since 2019. While others doing content similar and even less quality then mine have blown up, it's taken me all this time to get to 43K. I think that part of the reason for this is it took me awhile to narrow down my niche. Lately my views have been worse than they have in a long time. I have a few videos that went popular and brought in hundreds and even thousands of subscribers, but most my audience doesn't watch my videos. I've recently been working to really narrow down, and even renamed my channel to better reflect my content. Since it took me so long to narrow down my niche I'm wondering if that has permanently shadowbanned my channel or what, because videos that are almost exactly like mine are getting way more views. I'm wondering if I should just start a brand new channel with my narrowed down niche. Do you have suggestions for me?
@AlexaSaarenoja2 ай бұрын
Actually I think your niche is still quite broad. It's religion, homeschooling, homesteading, homecooking, home organization, saving money, thrift shopping. It seems like homemaking and religion seem to be the strongest of your videos. What if you just focus on just " the art of godly homemaking" like your most popular video. Also I recommend being transparent and asking your viewers that are watching (subscribers I mean) what they want to see from you and see if it interests you. Wishing you the best. Where do lifestyle vloggers fall in? They don't really have a niche, they do cooking and decorating and shopping. People watch them for them, because they love them. I think I would rather have a channel built on relationship rather than just transactional
@AlexaSaarenoja2 ай бұрын
Vloggers are providing value and thus can grow their channel in their vlog niche. There are travel vlogs, mommy vlogs, etc. I don't think it is any different. I also don't look at my channel as transactional, but rather built on relationships of helping people and providing them strategies to live their dreams and speak passionately about something close to their heart. I believe the whole purpose to grow a channel is to help impact more people's lives via relationships, caring and offering guidance, entertainment or whatever value you offer. So yes, I think many successful vloggers do have a niche. If that is what you are asking? I am not sure. Hope this helps! xoxo

I've called my channel "Simple living is joyful living" (No content yet) ...and thereby change my name to the channel to "Simple Living for Gen X". (or something like that)
@AlexaSaarenoja2 ай бұрын
My first question would be how do you define simple living? What would be some topics of your videos? Simple living with regards to minimalist, regards to living off grid, enjoying the simple things in life? I think the category is quite broad...knowing how you are defining simple living could help me to help you more. xoxo
@simplifyinglifeforgenx2 ай бұрын
@@AlexaSaarenojaoh yes, that makes sense. To me, simple living is about how to simplify your life, and how to live the life that you actually want to live, and not buy into "the norm" or what society wants, but more about what YOU want with your life , and by using the philosophy of simple living as a tool. To me it's not about minimalism or living off grid - except if that's what you want. I would love to show ppl that you are only a choice from living and being the life you "dream" of. But you have to make the choice. So my approach to simple living is more philosophical and more in the self development niche than the classic simple living thing. But it's all about simplifying your life so you can sense yourself, your needs and what you actually want. Does that make sense?
