Nick should have gotten an Oscar for his role in "Broadway Danny Rose." He at least deserved a nomination.

When we talk about great Mob movies this movie should be included. One of the few movies I never get tired looking at. I think I'll watch this weekend.

I've been friends with Nick for 38 years. He's a legend in Waterbury, Ct., and a great fisherman on his boat "Scrungili." I've been fishing with him several times. A great entertainer in the New England lounge circuit too.

They are almost all neapolitan's words; they are pronounced with an american accent: Agita = you shake (your paunch); Cumpà (compare) = great friend; Panzon' (pancione) = great paunch; Pizza = Pizza!; Soffritt' (soffritto) = fried; Baccalà = dried cod; mangia (mangiare) = to eat; “che te pozzan' schiattà” = it's a neapolitan insult like “that you'll die!”; Maronn'! (Madonna!) = Neapolitan cry for help to Madonna; Linguin' (linguine) = it's a type of Italian pasta; Panza (pancia) = paunch.

Hello Thanks for posting this...do you have any more songs from the lp that you can post? The Scungili song etc...BTW...I worked with some of the people in the movie Im an entertainer also...in the scene where theyre concerned about him being late for a show, the guy in the suit pacing and saying "hes Late! is a guy named Gary Reynolds...used to be in an act Named "FORD and REYNOLDS"...they were on Ed Sullivan 8 times and Woody Allen used to write comedy for them. and I used to be in Gary Reynolds group years ago. Thanks Barry NYC

Just watched it again after a long time. Even though Woody is a persona non grata for good reason, this is still a great film. He captures the essence of Italian-Americans perfectly( I was raised as one.)
@MichaelGoldenberg7 жыл бұрын
Try to swallow your outrage over alleged crimes for which he's never been tried, let alone convicted, and focus on the movies. Ezra Pound was an anti-Semite who shamed himself for demonstrable support of the Axis. His poetry is still read and studied, and with good reason. If we are supposed to decide whose art is "worthy" based strictly on the alleged or real sins of the creator, we are in deep trouble as a species. Oh, and for what it's worth, the movie captures the essence of a segment of the Italian-American culture of a certain era, but it really goes a lot further and that's what makes it a brilliant movie. There's Jewish-American culture that goes beyond greater NYC (where I grew up) and there's Italian-American culture that goes beyond the northeast, too. Finally, Mia Farrow's performance in BDR was quite possibly the best she ever did. She deserved an Oscar for that.

If we never were able to separate the artist from the art, and became the moral police of artists, well....I don't think the art we ended up with would be very good

Is there any chance we could see a high quality mp3 of this posted? Or of all the songs? This LP is pretty hard to find, and when you can find it it isn't cheap. This is the kind of thing that should be out there, because it'll probably never be released commercially again.

"agita my cumpà in the panzoon" is a mixture of italian southern dialect and english. It means something like "Mix it up, my friend, in the belly" And i don't know wtf is the meaning. "when i start to mangia"="when i start to eat"
@dr.fukmabussey22507 жыл бұрын
