This, alongside Nature Boy, is one of my favorite Nick Cave songs ever (and I love all of his songs). Never get tired of listening to it. Skeleton Tree is my second favorite album, after Abattoir Blues/Lyre of Orpheus. I remember that I was just 17 when Skeleton Tree came out. 17 year old me’s mind was blown when I heard this track. Of course, at the time, I had NO idea what the track was about.

Amber preserves dead organisms. Some believe it traps souls too. He is singing about feeling completely detached and suspended in grief when you lose someone. Out of time and out of place. The song is also an amber of sorts for him and his wife' s grief.

this song has sooo much soul....probably the most powerful moment in the album. i love it with all my heart and live is stunning 💜

Nick is an absolute artist in a world of auto tuned music with no meaning. The lyrics are touching to so many people who grieve the loss of our loved ones. Thank you for sharing yourself in a way that truly touches us.

The first time I heard GIA it was during the premiere of OMTWF the documentary. To call it a Masterpiece is an understatement. I was stuck to my cinema seat and felt my blood pressure rising. Choking and trying to hold back but everything failed in that moment. The tears fell and kept falling. RIP dear Arthur. NC has never been more realistic with his fans and this was the moment he truly showed his vulnerability as a parent and as a human. Immortal classic. One of the reasons why the album ST was #1. Here's wishing that GHOSTEEN makes #1 as well. Bravo NCATBS Bravo!!!! 👏👏👏👏👏 💟💗💙💚💝💜💛💫

Some go and some stay behind Some never move at all Girl in amber trapped forever, spinning down the hall Let no part of her go unremembered, clothes across the floor Girl in amber lumber slumber shuts the bathroom door The phone, the phone, the phone it rings, it rings, it rings no more The song, the song, the song it spins since nineteen eighty-four The phone, the phone, the phone, it rings, the phone, it rings no more The song, the song it's been spinning now since nineteen And if you want to bleed, just bleed And if you want to bleed, just bleed And if you want to bleed, don't breathe A word Just step away and let the world spin And now in turn, you turn You kneel, lace up his shoes, your little blue-eyed boy Take him by his hand, go move and spin him…
