Man as someone who's had the misfortune of dealing with solar panel salesmen, as well as falling for the solar panels "just pay us 60 grand over 4000 years and it'll pay itself off eventually" I gotta say this is legit. Compared to the deal the utility company gives you, that's a pretty good deal. If you calculated what you have now with them it would literally be an infinite number. But 60,000 sounds like you talked to one company. If you shop around, it's far far better than sticking with the utility company. Like, 90 dollars a month for 25 years for you or whoever lives in the house after you. Or 100 dollars a month that increases 5-13% every year forever. Hmmmm. I have to explain this to people every day at my job. Why would you think it is about "paying it off"? It's about getting a lower bill and collecting a 7,000 dollar tax credit. No salesman has ever talked about "paying it off". I've only ever heard that from dipshit customers. Same people that talk about roi when I just told them there is no upfront cost. Just a bill swap. If the bill is better. Cool. Do it. If not, don't.

@@diapysik the pricing is decided upon by the salesperson. If with the interest it doesn't save you money, the person was trying to make 6-8k on the sale. Talk to someone else and say that you have checked with 3 other companies but won't share what they quoted you and that if they give you their lowest price you will go with them. They will come back with the best electric bill in your neighborhood. If your roof faces south it should be 20 dollars lower than the utility company. A bill that is 20 dollars lower and never increases is good. Who cares if a couple dollars of every month is interest? Owning power is better than renting it. Period.

i think the rivian gets the equivalent of 15 mpg average, and the hummer is maybe 10mpg if that. rivians overrun my town this winter, i have not seen one in the past month... must not have been satisfied customers theyre going to run out of raw materials before they actually make financial sense. then we are going to be stuck with a huge charging infrastructure we cant recycle... wind mills are disposable cause they consider the structure compromised after 5 years, so they go to the wasteland and not get recycled... gov incentives are the last fiber holding it together... the gov is the only institution prospering. my grandma said she was on the phone with the solar panel guy all this week to get free solar panels, he just needed all the information i have ever given to the world, i legit "yelled never do that, solar is the worst scam nothing is ever free." then she said at the end the guy said the panels are free with a gov rebate the customer sends in after installation and she would only need to pay a very modest installation fee that would be disclosed after installation...

I was able to talk with a higher up at the energy company for Springfield MO, She said of all the people adding solar it only really worked out for about 2-3 homes into the entire area. For them to work well you need to have an extremely efficient home to begin with (EE windows, extremely good insulation, ect) but most people just got them to virtue signal and are waiting like 30 years to pay them off.

Nuclear has been the best source of energy for decades now and is only getting better (modern plants are automated for the most part and spent fuel rods can be reused), but hilariously all the eco warriors are terrified of it thinking it’s dangerous when more people have died from coal/gas disasters (but they don’t really make the news). Solar and wind are dogshit in most situations. Never bought electric cars being remotely useful unless you only drive 20 miles a day and spend a lot of time in traffic. The manufacturing process of their batteries is extremely damaging to the environment, and they aren’t magically preventing pollution since the electricity they run on tends to come from a gas plant

Wind turbines function as batteries over their lifetime. they never produce more energy than it took to make, install and maintain them. Electric cars require a total overhaul of the energy industry. It's the not the Mwh production that's the issue its the HVDC long range transmission of Mwh that will be the super expensive externality. International/intercontinental power transmission will be required to meet the new demand of electric vehicles.
