@mas5867 You sound almost clueless, and you certainly know zilch about a true legend like Coach Nick Saban. Are you a fan of Auburn or LSU, or some other hardback team. Sorry, but you've got a lot of nerve calling a legend a Snake. It's about this Coach taking care of, and caring for ALL the Players, and making them successful in life, NOT just about the National Championships. Coach Saban worked his butt off 24/7 right after the last game, never taking the program or the kids for granted. Fans who think Coach Saban is disingenuous, i.e. a "Snake," are likely just selfish and concerned about their own team and bragging rights. Look beyond yourself - College football is going to start looking really dumb, with less teamwork, and players jumping teams repeatedly, while schools produce less and less graduates. Hey, as long as those bets and different winners come in!

@@retiredusvet4396 LOL. You're the one that is clueless. Saban's last 3 seasons. 2021. 13-2 21 pts from 9-6 2022. 11-2 14 pts from 8-5 In 21 and 22, 101 pts from covering the line. Lines do not matter? What criteria do pollsters use to drop teams that win? 2023. 12-2 19 pts from 8-6. He has never been a great coach and dreaded teams that were as good as his. * 1-1 against 10 win TN teams. * Never beat an AU team that finished with 9 wins. 0-8, 0-5 at AL, 0-3 at LSU * look at the 3 teams (TN, LSU, AU) that Shula faced every year. Saban NEVER faced the same quality of the three in ANY one year. I will own you in a debate. All you can bring is 7 NCs, all with caveats, except 2015.

While Coach Saban makes a valid point @2:00 mark . . . it's not a football thing. Those are the same concerns, across the board, in corporate America. I recently retired from education, as a careers counselor, for the last 18 yrs. The entitlement, inability to deal with adversity, arrogance, and underdeveloped skills, has been the outcry of CEOs, and HR managers, regarding incoming college grads, to their companies, for almost a decade. It's a generational, culture issue, and definitely not exclusive to football. Coach had a great run, but I guess he's chosen to spend the 4th quarter, doing something other than developing young men . . .

I 100% agree with Nick. Dabo was dragged through the mud a few years ago for saying the same thing, he saw it coming and knew it wouldn't be good for the sport. I don't think he'll ever buy completely into it and will probably wind up retiring before he planned to because of it. Saban happened to be in a unique position where he was able to just walk away from it without financial repercussions. For years College Football was a huge passion of mine but not anymore. This definitely needs to be addressed!!

Coach Saban did an interview after winning the national championship vs Ohio State in 2020. He basically said the same thing and he is right. Nothing wrong with players getting paid but the college game and development of players will suffer. It's almost impossible to coach and get players to graduate nowadays. Bama has like 94% graduation rate was dominant/competitive under Coach Saban. Even if a coach leaves there's usually a buyout or some form of compensation for the school so I think some kind of regulation should be in place for the players as well. Even the NFL has a salary cap. I hope some kind of balance can be established as well. Just my opinion.👍
@MarvinBarnes-rg1lv
@MarvinBarnes-rg1lv Ай бұрын
I don't think development is going to suffer. Players are not stupid. They will go to where they can play AND get better. I think you make a good point about the pay. I think the NFL and the NFL players union both should step up in that regard. College football is the minor league of the NFL, and the NFL should act accordingly

That's how Alabama became so successful. They were willing to invest the most money in coaches and facilities and under the table payments to the best players in the country. Saban was able to dominate because other schools weren't or couldn't get in the mud with them. Now with NIL and the transfer portal, he has lost his competitive advantage. He can't stockpile talent anymore and kids that are not happy can transfer.

Coach Saban and his wife Terri are the are the superb definition of parents and people with values, principles, and morals. They love their children that truly do great things and absolutely change others people’s lives for the in ways that are indescribable to some. You can’t buy and own people with integrity and honor like the Sabans have. People with honor are one of the few things money can’t buy. When money and wealth start to become priority and overtake the desire for the continuous, perpetual, never ending process of learning, development and growth. Learn to be assets of good value to society and who impacts others in the most positive way. As athletes our careers are like periods in a dictionary, compared to our entire lives and money never replace integrity. He was always great to me but, after hearing this he just became my hero.

Coach Saban loved a system where he could recruit 5 stars, not worry about little things like them getting paid for their work and service, while he is able to keep each player right there at alabama with no chance of transfer. Life sure was easier that way. He weaves a nice fairy tale while having no problem drawing a huge salary w unlimited endorsements while they suffer for development. College football is now more competitive than it ever was the old system when alabama and clemson dominated every single year. College football is far more interesting, unpredictable, exciting, and far more popular w viewers than when alabama and clemson could control all the best players.
@dickdavis5291

@@MarvinBarnes-rg1lv it’s going to hurt the play quality in the nfl because athletes will eventually stop caring about overall development on the field and for the rest of their lives beyond athletics and put priority on quick money. Just because someone was drafted high, signed a contract for a team in the NFL and made a lot for a certain amount of years doesn’t mean that’s gonna last forever. What of the team decides to cut them because they didn’t cut it. Yes money is important and these kids have every right to get it. But, if they first stay focus on constant improvement, instead of first focusing how much money will they will make if and when they make it and how fast can I get it. They will have knowledge, skills and money.

College d1 has always been about the money and Saban has become enormously rich as have the networks. Now the players have an opportunity to get paid. . It’s never been about the student, and it’s always been about the athlete at these big schools.

Take nothing away from the incredible coach he his, but he doesn’t get it. NOBODY in America works for free (in theory). Easy to say they are entitled you make 11 million a year and are now advocating for government intervention in collegiate sports, but yell about too much government in other circumstances.

He’s not wrong. College athletics has become the NFL, jr. That’s not good for amatuer athletics. NIL, if done by athletes to earn money on the name, image, and likeness. Cool. But be guaranteed money… is bad. The seed was planted by the athletes that sued EA over IL. College games never had the names, but they pretty much modeled the game players after the real players and he wanted to get paid… Ed O’Bannon.

Some schools make money, but the overwhelming majority do not. The teams that do pull income spend the money on their own athletes first, then other sports programs that don't make money, and if they're really successful, some academic and support programs with what's left over. This argument about 'making money' has never held water.

Saban is an excellent coach, possibly the GOAT . . . but how disingenuous, arrogant and self-righteous can you be. College Professors at the Univ. of Alabama make between 87K & 148K annually, but the head football coach, that's supposedly "developing" young men, and preparing them for the future, makes 11 million annually . . . The average college prof annual salary in the U.S. is 70K - 110K, but big time coaches make 5 - 12 million annually. One percent of college football players make it to the NFL, and have a chance of making a few million in their careers. So what "development" for the future, are we talking about here? If the goal, or standard for college coaches is to "develop" these young men, why are coaches able to leave for other jobs, sometimes even one year into a players' career, that they recruited. I've always respected Coach Saban, as a coach, but this sounds like the pot, calling the kettle black. 90% of college students(including student/athletes) are there to learn "something", that will enable them to to get paid, while in school, or after they leave. So if the skill that the athlete has been developing, since jr high school, affords him/her the opportunity to get paid while in school, isn't it Un-American, to try to stop that from happening? College football players have been getting paid, ever since the game began . . . it just wasn't in the open, and the SEC was one of the major culprits. Now that the "paying(playing) field is leveling, Coach Saban wants to voice his "heart-felt" concerns. Yeah right . . . thanks for the memories Coach. It's a new day.

I have a question for you if Saban is such a great coach then why was hardbaugh able to achieve what Saban couldn’t which was loyalty and have all those players come back to win a national championship this year? Because to me it sounds like a character issue that hardbaugh is a better man than nick saban hence why hardbaugh achieved loyalty and Saban couldn’t hence why he’s in front of the congress crying about it

@@curbsidecritiqe2066 But the main thing you're missing is that the schools are not the ones paying these players. It is outside entities (i.e. NIL Collectives, boosters, alumni, etc.) that are paying the players. Very little if anything at all comes from the university.
