Name. Image. Likeness. Three little words that mean multi-million dollar paychecks for today’s top college athletes. But is NIL creating a gulf between the haves and have nots in college athletics?

If they can use NIL, they should have to pay for their education....Some of these kids are driving cars that are the price of a small house in the hood somewhere...

Non-revenue generating sports are not entitled to booster money. They can spend their money however they want. It’s on the less popular sports to figure out how to sustain themselves or risk going extinct.

Oh, male-female athletes salary gap again. Advertisers seek to advertise to as many people as possible. They will always choose people, teams, leagues, etc., who has the most viewers or clout.

Yikes 1. The reason why schools have funded some sports more than others has nothing to do with NIL. 2. Schools do not have less money for sports because of NIL (fixed pie fallacy). ESPN’s deal with the SEC, which kicks in next year, is estimated to be for about $811 million per year for 10 years. Trust me, that's not less than the SEC was earning before NIL. 3. Coaches absurd salaries might be affected by NIL? You mean Auburn might have to quit paying ex-coaches 10 of millions of dollars to not coach their football team? Oh the humanity of it all. 3a. Coaches absurd salaries might be affected by NIL? You mean coaches might not be the state's highest paid employees anymore? 4. NIL actually benefits women's sports in particular because there are fewer lucrative professional options post-college (see the WNBA, see women's gymnastics). 5. There is no "salary cap" in the NCAA because the NCAA wants it that way. If there were a "salary cap" college athletes would be "employees," which is the last thing the NCAA wants to admit. You can't negotiate a salary cap with people who aren't your employees. 6. Coaches and ADs complain about the NIL being the "Wild West" but it's because they can't admit they run a professional, billion $$$ entertainment business and don't want a collective bargaining agreement where they might have to share revenue with their workforce. 7. NCAA is the only business in the world that figured out a way to make other people pay their employees. And they're still mad about it.

It’s way deeper than that. Y’all are easily trapped by money. Ask yourself, are they doing this to benefit athletes? Do you not see how ridiculous it is that a person is not in control of their own image? Companies are taking advantage of broke athletes the same way they took advantage of musicians.

Excellent post! My only disagreement is with number 7. Somehow restaurants have figured bout how to do the same thing with tipping culture. Both are BS! Otherwise, spot on!!!!!

I kinda disagree. She seems biased towards non-revenue generating sports and less sympathetic to players who generate more money, but don’t receive proportionate share of revenue.

The only way to solve it is to share tv deal revenue. The network partners pay each school a bag each year. If they shared that the collectives could focus on facilities and non revenue sports

NIL is the WORST thing to EVER happen to sports in American history!!!! Money ruins EVERYTHING!! I was a superstar basketball player growing up in New Jersey! My high school coach/gym teacher coached Brian Taylor who played with Dr. J. I probably could've played in the NBA. I loved basketball growing up. U of A fan for life! Been to almost 500 h.s games. Loved college bball growing up. Once money got involved in college it was a wrap. Players NOT playing for the love but for the $$$ Transferring every year chasing money. Kevin Durant goes to 3 h.s.'s. WTF is that?!!! People who worship money are assholes with no soul! Overpaid, whiny, criminal, drug-using, drunk-driving shitheads. Sports is done!!! And I'n done with sports!! Except the Tour de France.

money is ruining sports all around. athletes are more worried about being multimillionaires than actually playing a sport. this just leads to corruption and selling out. college players play for an education. this is just going to lead to all the talent going to the highest bidder.

The schools have the money and the budget to ensure less popular sports are well funded, if they allowed themselves to do so. But the greed is rampant at collegiate level. The cost of school has continued to grow long before NIL deals. The institutions are responsible for the system to run well and making profit has outweighed the moral obligation for student’s education and human growth. They promote drinking yourself into an indoctrinated state so you don’t wake up and realize you’re on your way to become a life long slave. “The system that puts you in debt before your adult life even begins is whining about not getting in a more discreet way. This is the consequences of capitalism. If this is the system we subscribe to, it’s only fair that kids get part of the cash while they are working for it in college.

What I don't like about the NIL deals is that your paying them off of potential and you don't know if they keep it up in the big leagues eg like jimmer ferdette.

Samantha Ponder makes $4.9M. Assuming that's more than the the narrator of this video makes, how can ESPN provide a more "equitable" distribution for all of the sports media personalities across all companies and platforms? Because we all know that market driven economics make no sense and produce no value. In fact, since I've contributed to this comment section, I'm entitled to an equal cut of this video's revenue.

I don't see the negative effects honestly. The players who are worth something, finally get their due checks. And B/C sports get what they deserve, namely less funds as they don't bring in the necessary attention to deserve the funds the universities receive.

Some sports are inherently more marketable than others but doesn’t mean those sports should stop existing. We’d lose a lot of very talented athletes if we only had football and men’s basketball.

@@dylanhobbs6249 no it hasn’t. You’re just making statements with no evidence. Men’s basketball is gutted to the point that the best players are gone before sophomore year. It’s unwatchable. Football is dominated by the same teams every year and mega conferences are resulting. Then there’s bums like Olivia dunne who is such a bad gymnast that she can’t even get in the rotation on her team, yet she makes millions because she’s a mediocre white girl.
