These guys dont know shit about baseball. We sit here and complain about basketball being too predictable but now complain that baseball the "best" team doesn't win. First off Nick's analogy is terrible. What does he want an 13-game series? The Yankees were clearly the better team in this series. Cashman's job is probably as safe as ever so IDK what CC is talking about. Girardi's decision to pull Sabathia out was a no-brainer and even if Girardi doesn't get resigned he would have another job the next day. Btw maybe Girardi doesn't want to come back as the manager.

@tommy55257 жыл бұрын
Totally agree. Nick does not have a clue of the complexity of the game of baseball. I am amazed how he is sticking to his ridiculous point. I mean, I understand if the team with the best record has to play a wildcard team to move forward but that's not the case! The Yankees fought their way to compete against the best team and they won the series. Also, great point on Girardi, I feel the ball is on his side of the court and it will be his decision to stay or walk. I believe Brian Cashman knows that the young squad needs continuity and bringing a brand new manager might not be the best for the development of the team.
@tommy55257 жыл бұрын
I would argue that the Yankees won a 5 game series with 4 games. After game one there was an 8% chance of the Yankees getting passed the Indians. Game two was the game that showed that they could compete.

New York outplayed Cleveland in four games. It's not a flawed format. Cleveland went on a huge win-streak but probably peaked too early, they came into the playoffs with injuries. The Yankees were hot too, didn't have injuries and were getting big contributions from everyone on the team coming into the playoffs. Say what you want but you don't accidentally win 3 games in a row. Hell Cleveland beat a 73-win Warriors team that was up 3-1 and Nick would defend it to his grave that they deserved it. I can't believe I'm agreeing with Nick Wright. The divisional series should be a best of 7. No logic playing 162 just to end up throwing a dice on a five game series. One game does not make the difference between being a good manager. Thus, had they lost, Girardi being fired for that unexpectedly good season would be ridiculous and one more win should not be the sole basis for him keeping his job. The point of the playoff structure is to give every team an even playing field. The small sample size of games allows for more randomness and entertainment. Yes, the Indians were the best team during the regular reason, but the playoffs don't always crown the best team.
@robertjamessimmonsiii63677 жыл бұрын
The playoffs in any sport do not filter teams out to get to the best. We know who the best is, its the team with the highest W-L record in the regular season. The playoffs determine a champion...the team that persevered through the difficult season and can fend off an opposing team in a short series. You get 5 games, win 3 of them. If you can't string together 3 games then you shouldn't advance. The next two rounds, you get 7 games, win 4 of them....if you can't win 4 games do you really deserve to be champion? Champions win when they have to, not when its convenient

As a Yankees fan I've seen them be the best team in baseball in the regular season and lose in the first round of the playoffs. Am I upset? Of course. It's part of the playoffs though. All I hear on the radio and sports networks is how he Indians collapsed, Judge strikes out a million times and Joe didn't make that challenge when he should have. How about how they came back from a 2-0 deficit?
@averma327 жыл бұрын
Thats why you gotta love baseball playoffs. You have to play well on that day. Doesn't matter what they did in regular season over several months. No one can say for sure who will win the world series for sure, unlike NBA where everyone predicts that Warriors will most likely win for next 3 years. The Indians played well at the end of the season but couldn't do it playoffs. There is more uncertainties in baseball. The best regular season team may not win it all, because they still need to play every playoff game well.

I watch baseball non stop and honesty it is flawed. Wild card teams keep on playing( which is good for those teams) and teams with the best record gotta wait four or three days. I don't also like how a one game playoff can dictate your season. 2015 Cubs vs Pirates. Second and third best teams in the MLB. Make that a best two out of three right after game 162. Game one against the team with the best record you could potentially have your number 4 against the other teams number 1.....a true advantage to the team with the best record. Stats say teams with the best record don't do that good. That shouldn't be. Good to see y'all talking bout baseball and not Cowherd....
@branjara7 жыл бұрын
Anthony I agree that the one game wild card needs to be changed. I bring up the Pirates and Cubs wild card all the time too. They could even just make it a 160 game season in order to add a best of 3 series for the wild card game. Glad you pointed to this specifically because what Nick was saying is off. He showed a little ignorance when it comes to baseball. The playoffs are all about who shows up in the big moments, and that goes for any sport. If that were not the case why would we have playoffs? Why not say "Hey, the Indians have been historically great and the Dodgers have been the best in the NL. How about they just play an 11 game series to decide a champion?" A regular season record is not always indicative of who the best team is because that depends on so many things like strength of competition, injuries, pitchers hitting/DH, east to west coast road trips, etc. Baseball is a series game where you should have the opportunity to run out your top 3 or 4 starters vs. theirs and see who performs which is why the Wild Card game is flawed but the rest of playoffs is not.
@maxheadroom12077 жыл бұрын
I think it is way better than the format before. A premium has to be put on winning the division and having the one game wild card does that. Plus the advantage that is gained by the best team is having their pitching lined up the way they want it to.
@branjara7 жыл бұрын
The premium is home field advantage. Having a 3 game series would not lessen the incentive of winning the division for the reason you stated; resting and getting rotation in order for the division winners.

What a cry baby. The system is the same for everyone and benefits those who play well enough to deserve the victory. There were plenty of years that the Yanks were the best team and heavily favored only to be eliminated in a 5 game series. The Braves of the early 2000s and late 90s were always division winners with a great offense and a great starting staff. They were never great defensively, off the bench or in the bullpen. Many of their playoff losses were exposed in that regard. Many thought the Yankees were going to lose easily to them in the 1996 World Series. However, the Yanks were strong where the Braves were weak and they exposed those weaknesses. The Braves never really adjusted into the 2000s. Teams jumped on their bullpen upon matching their starting pitchers inning for inning, and if they usually jumped on the starting pitchers (of which they always had 3 great ones) the bench and bullpen couldn't save them and they would often lose. Playoff structure had nothing to do with that, as they lost for several years including twice to the dynasty Yanks in the World Series. I guess dynasties don't mean anything to this idiot, because perhaps the playoff structure favored those great teams but not current ones. Fucking idiot lol The Oakland A's (who won 20 In a row in 2002) were too young when they peaked and many players went off as free agents, including their MVP Giambi and Cy Young winner Zito. They had 2 great shots at a title. In 2001, the old guard Yanks at the tail end of their dynasty, beat them in round one after losing the first two games AT HOME. NO EXCUSES BUT THAT THEY DIDNT GET THE JOB DONE. They were outplayed in the final 3 games. In 2002 they were World Series favorites and lost to the Minnesota Twins in 5 games. They also had the better bench and bullpen despite being out gunned in the batting lineup and starting rotation. They played better and beat them in the 7th inning of game 5 off their shit bullpen lol. Now let's talk about the one that I'm always happy to discuss, and that's the 2001 Seattle Mariners. A team that was easily the most overrated team of the modern era. They had 116 wins in the regular season. They broke the Yankee record set just 3 seasons earlier in 1998, when the Yanks won 114, enroute to a championship, thus solidifying their late 90s dynasty. Did they not think they had a chance to beat them despite this great success three years earlier? After all, the core was exactly the same and they added hired guns such as Roger Clemens and David Justice. They Yanks just defeated the 2001 favored Oakland A's and had momentum, but let's skip that and consider that this was now a 7 game series to determine who goes to the World Series. So it begs the question: "how is the playoff system IN A 7 GAME SERIES TO BLAME FOR THE YANKS SPANKING THEM IN 5 GAMES?" Wow. That's another fucking team that had no bullpen, a loaded offense, but a starting staff that didn't throw hard enough to give those Yankee hitters trouble. Back then the Yanks would always struggle with flame throwers, but that was something the Mariners didn't have, so of course the series went the way it did, including 2 blow-outs. Now, the Indians this year were the better team. I didn't think the Yanks had a shot. However, they rallied behind guys that played without fear and were Unafraid to fail. (Just look at Judge striking out 16 times in 24 at bats for fucks sake) They hit their best pitcher twice in the series and also took a game from their best reliever. They earned it. But this idiot says it's a flawed playoff structure. What a fucking tool.

I don't get what this guy wants. A 20-team, 19-game-series playoffs? The MLB's postseason system is extremely fair, excluding the stupid one-and-done wildcard game. The exclusivity of the playoffs gives validity to the regular season. The same can't be said for the NFL, which this guy clearly has a fetish for. Sorry your team lost bro, but that's how the game goes. The fact is that the MLB probably produces the best team for the World Series winner more often than any other sport, excluding maybe the NBA. Confused by this guys logic. He's talking about how it isn't fair because the Indians were the best team in the league.
