Camp Rock came out in 2008 as a vehicle to launch the Jonas Brothers and Demi Lovato into teen pop music stardom with Disney and Disney Channel. While this first film kicked off a franchise that continues to this day, the first movie was a low budget attempt at mixing together tropes from other movies about summer camp and performing arts. Let's dive in to the most cringe moments of this DCOM classic, and look at ways this movie is derivative of other classics like Camp (2003) and Raise Your Voice. Are you a fan of this movie also starring Kevin Jonas, Nick Jonas, and Alyson Stoner? As always, don't forget to like and subscribe! Watch CAMP ROCK on Amazon: amzn.to/3hmQ7Ic (Affiliate)

I always felt bad for Kevin having to play the dumb one in all of his Disney roles. It's almost if someone said, "What is Joe's best quality? He's hot and confident, okay he can be the heart throb. What about Nick? He's definitely the smart and sensitive one. And Kevin? Uh...hm... I guess we need a dumb one." In the most recent Jonas Brothers karaoke carpool, Kevin is so funny and comes across as smart, not to mention handsome. Disney really did him dirty.

Hello I found it interesting how they decided to make Kevin the dumb one in so many Disney projects when in their earlier cameo in Hannah Montana, Nick was the dumb one. He was just as capable of fulfilling that role and I’m curious to know why Disney decided to switch it around after that.

They could’ve easily made a more use of Sierra’s character by having Mitchie ask her to pretend to be her fake mom. She could’ve sprinkled in more of the Chinese words in a fake phone call to try and add validity to her story for the new ‘cool’ friends. Like maybe if Mitchie calls Sierra and asks which boutique she got the piece from, and having Sierra repeat the Chinese phrase instead, then it would’ve been a clearer callback too.

And Shane, *shockingly*, is absent for the cafeteria scene where Tess bullies Mitchie for her mom. Not lying, not being untrue to herself, but for the thing she knew she'd get judged for. It's almost like the camp's big celebrity is out of touch with the rest of the world

I mean Mitchie did make up a huge elaborate lie. I'm pretty sure if I had found out a friend had basically lied about their entire life to me I'd be a bit hurt. Yes there is classism in this movie, but that doesnt' mean Jo has no right to be upset that she lied to him.

The most glaring issue with Camp Rock to me is how they clearly set up Tess doing the most obvious move of stealing Mitchie's song and then just don't do it?? Like she figures out it's Mitchie, takes the lyrics, and then decides to pay homage with her song instead? It confused me so much as a kid and I STILL can't figure out why they bothered to set up that scene for no payoff.
@sweetly1634

From what I remember of the movie it seems like Camp Rock is some prestigious music-based camp. That’s why everyone looks down on the main character cause she was related to and helped someone who worked there (rather than just having the money to go with no obligations to work)
@DeathnoteBB
@DeathnoteBB 4 жыл бұрын
Fuck I forgot to say but my point was, basically it looks good, and helps the kid make friends/build connections. Plus maybe the mom genuinely wanted her kid to learn stuff to become successful on her own merit.
@marianne5055
@marianne5055 4 жыл бұрын
@@DeathnoteBB I get its prestigious, but it still seems..idk weird to me. Like, she's jealous of Mitchie hanging out with Shane Gray when she herself probably knows or at least has met a lot of famous people herself. I just can't imagine that she's actually learning a lot from this camp when she's probably has had a lot more hands-on learning from being around her mom. Or if you were serious about learning you would like go to Juillard. But I get it, its a disney channel movie and they need to have some stereotypical popular mean girl.
