Snuff was from the 2009 Slipknot record "All hope is gone" and was written about Corey's divorce with his wife, and was about the emotions he went through during the process. And even though he didn't want it to end he had to expect it. Because if they tried to repair the relationship only for it fail again he wouldn't be able to bare it. Originally they weren't sure if they should put it out under the Slipknot name because it was so different from usual Slipknot. However bassist Paul Grey really pushed for it and went on to be one of their biggest hits. However in 2009 Paul died of a drug overdose. Since then it has been for his memory. When he says " angels lie to keep control" you'll see he looks upwards to look at Paul.

Snuff is also what you do when you put out a candle. Candle Snuffers used to be a thing. The were little bell shaped devices attached to a stick that you would place over a candle flame to snuff it out. I think that's the snuff he is referring to. A candle (or relationship) being snuffed out.

Hey man! Quoting another comment from a different reaction (so all credits to that guy) but here's the background! This one has a dual meaning for Corey now. Originally the song was written about a relationship. Corey didn't really write things for Slipknot, but when Paul Gray the bassist heard it, he basically championed for it to be finished and released as a Slipknot track. Paul passed away in 2010 from an overdose of mixing meds. So for Corey it's not just about lost love, but also the loss of one of a close friend. Great reaction, otherwise! Good luck to you from 🇮🇳

I am currently on week two of my 23 year-long relationship's breakup. I got a long way to go but after everything she did and said; as of right now, if she asked me to take her back it would be an emphatic YES! before the words finish leaving her lips. It can be painful but I love how cathartic metal music can be. I feel his pain, and he shares mine, as do so many of my metal brethren. 🤘🏻🖤

@poesenpai6475 Жыл бұрын
My understanding is that, the song was written about someone who has helped Corey through some really dark times in his life. He had feelings for this person and thought they did as well. I know there is more to the back story of the song than this but I don't remember off the top of my head. I do however know that this song was later dedicated to Slipknot's late bassist Paul Gray.

For me, this song hits me for being about drugs. Thats just how it hits ME.. I'm lucky to never been that down due to heartbreak of love -but I've always been the person that friends came to and talked to when they wanted to talk -but after hearing the same talk over and over again from the same people not listening I just went blank and turned over after hearing that a friend of mine did the O and D.. they talk to you just to vent but many just do it to talk but when they hang up they go back to what they did before the call... Somewhat I see the call for help for some being just another hit/fix to keep on going.. Best thing you could do if you are in trouble or if you feel a friend of your is... it's "just" to swallow your pride and seek help. Tell the close ones and see a professional to talk to (and not just one (because I had a HORRIBLE one who I feel needed therapy too)).. first of all -tell the ones closest to you and then go up the steps and see how many who are willing to lift you up from the dark.

This song pretty much describes a relationship I had with a friend but like a bit more, we never could really act on it. We fell out & he got cancer & died very fast. But I noticed some of the people he had introduced me to unfriended me & stuff, I have no doubt he was in their ear how horrible a person I am cos I wouldn't put up with his bullshit. I moved & had been frozen out so I didn't know how sick he was until it was "so if you believe in anything now is the time, we are at the hospital sitting vigil" & I was 4hr away. I wouldn't have made it. 20 years of friendship gone. He's been gone 5 years next month. This song breaks me

Snuff is also a type of illegal movies. Where the violence was real, think most were fake, or at least the few sort of infamous once. The Movie "8 MM" is about a detective diving in to snuff movie making to solve a murder. With Nicklas Cage and the main guy from Sopranos.

I appreciate this review so much! ☺I love the way you delve into the lyrics and emotions. This may seem very random, but I imagine you'd enjoy reacting to "Whispers of Your Death" by Counterparts. The singer wrote the song about his cat, who was very ill at the time (and eventually passed away). Also, the music video for "Constance" by Spiritbox, a very emotional audio-visual experience. I'd absolutely love to see you react to either of these. The lyrics are the most important part of the Counterparts song, and the music video is the most important focus of the Spiritbox song.

Snuff in this context is referring to extinguishing. Or more plainly like a snuff film where someone dies at the end. Songs like this mean little to me however. As what used to be called a psychopath, my idea of love is very different from yours most likely. I don't love like in movies. People have value to me or they do not. The ones with value I desire very intently. The ones I don't value, I don't. It's just math.
