I have noticed something about myself - I am generous because I want to be seen as a generous & good person. Now, I am trying to give so that no one knows where that generosity came from. I am therefore trying to move from an attached-generosity to a pure generosity. Like what you have shared, I was to give so that I can enjoy real happiness. 🙏🏼

That’s a beautiful awareness Joseph and a great start. Giving has different depths of purity to it so continue to keep purifying before giving, during giving and after giving. It’s definitely a practice 😊

that's so beautiful! i heard a phrase once about giving, and what you have realized and what you are now aiming for reminds me of that phrase: 'give as though even your left hand doesn't know what your right hand is giving'. i think it's about giving quietly, without aiming to receive praise or to be seen a certain way. anyway, congratulations on your insight and best wishes to you for your journey!

thank you, venerable nick, for another great video, and congratulations to all who worked together on the books! :) the tip about giving your time/energy resonates with me. i have some health issues, so I'm at home a lot. for me, i realized doing a bit each day to keep the house tidy and clean is one way i can give. this way, my partner can come home to a clean, nice-smelling house after a long day of work outside the house. i put essential oils (tea tree and lavender) in my mopping liquid with the water and dish soap, so i love mopping and get a bit of aromatherapy in the process. so maybe that's an example of the "win-win" approach to giving! in another video, you suggest experimenting and finding a daily routine with various components of wellbeing - physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional. in case it helps anyone, here is the structure i've created for myself, in the order i do things (or want to do things) each day: 1. physical: wake up, personal hygiene 2. start boiling water on the stove for breakfast (oatmeal) 3. physical/spiritual: while the water is heating up, i do whatever small cleaning task i notice needs doing. it's amazing how quickly (and still mindfully) you can get a house chore done! 4. physical/spiritual: eat breakfast while chewing slowly and watching/listening to one of nick the monk's videos! my favourite ones include the ones about speech. if there's a new video out, i'll watch that! sometimes i leave a comment in this section, and i realized that's an act of giving because it brings us all together. :) 5. intellectual/creative: work on a skill i'm interested in, or mentor someone in a skill i already have 6. physical: after that intellectual work, which often involves sitting, i practice a bit of irish dance, which brings me joy. it's also intellectual and spiritual and emotional! 7. social/emotional: catch up on any letter writing (

Thank you for this thoughtful video. For me the concept of greed also applies to what I may take from animals and not only what I may take from other people. For me exploiting animals by eating them or by using them to make clothing or other products is greedy. Innocent animals have no choice in what is being taken from them.

@@nickkeomahavong01 Thank you for your reply Nick. I studied the buddhadharma several years, also taoism, jnana yoga, etc. I think we can decrease a bit greed , hate, or other bad tendencies on our mind /ego, by replacing it by positive and selfishless actions and intentions, but to be fully freed from it, the direct way is to realize that the ego (with its greed, hate, etc) does not exist at all. Not always easy to realize it and be freed forever though..lol
