Bobber fishing for walleyes, when the conditions are right, is the closest thing you can get to a "cheat code" in the world of walleye fishing. Livescope makes it even better, but you don't need FFS to unlock the powers of the slip-bobber!

I use a 9’ medium Ugly Stik as my main slip bobber rod and like it more than a 7’ rod. I would have added that a higher speed reel helps get all that line when you’re going to set a hook. I use a Piscifun Viper 4k which has a 6.2:1 gear ratio, and it retrieves all that line and gear fast.
@NickLindner

Absolutely. Longer rods and faster reels are good assets in this setup

Like the hi-viz recommendation; I also strongly prefer hi-viz braid, bright yellow. Helps me see the line bow in windy conditions among other advantages. Dark green or red is just hard to see. I think you need a bit of slack between the rod tip and the bobber so the fish don’t feel line resistance, but too much makes the hookset difficult. Hi-viz braid helps with that. Just my two cents! 😊

This is a technique I have been playing around with the last couple years. Was not happy with my rod or reel. I now think I have found the right set up with a limit creek 8.3 telescoping rod and Johnny Morris® Signature Series Spinning Reel. I like the spinning reel because of the wide gap between the line roller plus the line roller is larger then most as well. This is important to me because there is less chance for your bobber stopper getting stuck and losing your depth position. Extremely happy with the Creek limit. Great action with good backbone. I love your set up. I do it the same way for the most part. I have been doing the plain hook with split shot. Your right, it does have a tendency to foul up sometimes. Will try the plain tungsten jig.

I used to use the plain hook all the time. It’s night and day using the jig instead. I think you’ll like it.

Love 1/32 oz jig with a small size bobber, love how leech move free..
@NickLindner
@NickLindner Ай бұрын
That’s valid. I like the drop speed a lot with the 1/16oz. Fast enough to hit the fish before they move along, but slow enough that the fish like it. I could see 1/32 being great

Very informative video . Maybe I missed it , but what is your preferred distance from top of bobber to the bobber stop . Thank you
@NickLindner
@NickLindner Ай бұрын
Thanks Jerry. I’m usually changing it based on the area I’m fishing. I try to have my bait be 3 feet or so above the fish. If I’m in 15 feet of water, that usually means I’m setting the bait about 8 feet below the surface

Thanks for the video, learned something today, How are you hooking the leach?
@NickLindner
@NickLindner Ай бұрын
I actually shot a little video on my phone demonstrating how I hook the leeches, but forgot to put it in the video. I’m hooking them right below the sucker. Some folks go through the sucker, but I like to get a little more meat. You lose less leeches that way.

You forget to mention minners, it works pretty good bobbering, work good, especially if you fish Walleyes in lakes that are full of sunnys, crawlers and leaches don't stand a chance in some of the lakes we fish, they are everywhere.

My best suggestion is actually to run two bobber stops if you're having problems on braided line. It's a weird suggestion, but can work.

Try making one using 40-60lb braid and tying slip bobber knot (uni knot). I've had decent luck with that, and when you make them you can leave the tags long and tighten them up throughout the day

My best suggestion would be to totally retie your rig with a new bobber stop. Just be careful when you’re putting it on to make sure the knot doesn’t get bunched up when you pull it tight

Man, Walleyes have NOT been eating leeches for me. Crawlers, though still kinda slow, are doing much better. For leeches I find they like the black ones best and not the brown ones so much. You think jumbo are better than Large? Maybe that's my issue....good stuff! Also, no plug for the Lindy live bait jig??? My fave.
@NickLindner
@NickLindner Ай бұрын
In my personal experience, I basically am always going to prefer the biggest possible leech. Black vs brown leeches can definitely be a factor some days
