Guys, im 51 now and remember listening to these songs on my sony walkman (cassette player lol). The melancholy of it all is so beautiful. Love this era. Although a différent genre somewhat, New Order and Depeche Mode and the Church had the same effect. Great memories

I've been a big fan of The Smiths since 1983 and was lucky enough to see them play live in London in 1985 and 1986. This isn't my favourite song of theirs but it's certainly a good one.

For hardcore fans, perhaps. But you have to admit it is their Stairway to Heaven, for better or worse.

Morrisey uses a lot of very understated, typically dark British humour that often gets overlooked. 'If a double decker bus crashes into us', 'If a ten ton truck kills the both of us', classic Morissey. I think this and their last album are the best but they had a load of wonderful singles and b-sides, This Charming Man, Heaven knows I'm miserable now, Panic, Shoplifters of the world unite, Girlfriend in a coma, Last night I dreamt that somebody loved me. I mean the titles alone draw you in! Cheers.

YES! Now you are getting into it! Every aspect of this band was brilliant. There are songs where the bass will blow you away as well. (Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now). Don't forget that Johnny Marr was like 20 when this was written...crazy. I'm loving these. Morrissey and his silly/serious lyrics over the brilliant music....100% unique

Morrissey was a big T. Rex fan, hence the strings. There are strings all over their seminal album Electric Warrior thanks to producer Tony Visconti, a good album to check out when you've got time, opening Track Mambo Sun is a real groove, Bolan was a pop genius and could rock as well. Sometimes it's good to go back to your idols influences, for Morrissey it was T. Rex and The New York Dolls, proper glam.

This one was one of the most fun songs to watch you two react to. You could definitely tell it was hitting a chord and then getting the story of why right after was awesome. I always liked the Smiths. I think my favorite album is Meat Is Murder, but they are all good.

Rick Astley and Blossoms did a full Smith's set last year at Glastonbury and it was incredible in person. The Smiths have so many bangers and the crowd was huge for what basically was a cover band. Shame I never got to see the Smiths back in the day but a legendary Rock band in the UK.

I knew a girl once who had gotten a genetic bad hand at birth. Her future wasn't looking good, I'll put it that way. One night we got pizza and we're hanging out watching TV. She says let's go for a drive or something to get out of the house. I like to drive and listen to music, sounded good to me. She brought a tape she'd made. Yes, a tape! This song came on while we were on the highway and honestly, it made me nervous! I found an excuse to go home and that was that. Needless to say, I think of her everytime I hear the song and that bit of nervousness comes back as well.

There are a few other Smiths songs that are as sad and beautiful, but don’t get the appreciation. One maudlin song is “Asleep”. It’s one of Morrissey’s saddest most deep felt moments. Then there is my all time favorite Smiths song, “Please please please let me get what I want”. It’s a short but powerfully sad beautiful song. Johnny Marr at his best. His use of the mandolin is beautiful.

The curious thing about this song, (which is the most popular of the band) Morrissey did not like very much and it took a lot for Marr to convince him to include it on the album (it is the penultimate song on side B) and of course it was not a single, which in my opinion prevented the album from being number 1 in '86.

RRHOF is a farce. You pay 50,000 or something to be included. John Lydon and the Sex Pistols refused it. Lydon also revealed that when he was doing a tv show they went to the RRHOF and lots of stuff that was on display as ‘ authentic hand written Johnny Rotten lyrics’ weren’t anything of the sort and didn’t even look like his handwriting. He pointed this out to them and they asked him to leave. It’s your typical corporate money maker that’s got nothing to do with honouring great music and everything to do with making money.

Just because someone thinks that to much illegal immigration has brought a lot of negative things doesn’t make them fascists. I currently live in a immigrant community and have for 50 years and have seen the dark side of illegal immigration. White liberals in the valley or suburbs don’t see the things that I’ve seen from illegal immigration. Obviously it’s not all immigrants but it’s still a large percentage of them that have caused problems
