In my humble opinion Mick is the best white soul singer this country has ever produced. The striking thing is, he still sounds like this now. Phenomenal. Simply Red's first album 'Picture Book' is outstanding. Start there. I promise you won't regret it. Love you two by the way!

The best white soul singer The UK has produced in my humble opinion is Steve Winwood, He was belting it out and topping the music charts age 17 with The Spencer Davis Group.

I absolutely love this song, however it is bittersweet for me. At the time it had come out, what I didn't know is that my ex wife was having an affair with one of my best friends. I recall vividly he was in the back seat of our car. She was in front holding my hand. This song came on and I was enjoying it. She then let go of my hand and the mood changed, it was their song. Shortly afterwards it was finally out about their affair and they both left together, leaving me to raise our three girls myself. Out of this betrayal came good things. The best and toughest job was raising the girls alone but I wouldn't trade that experience for nothing. My kids are very close to me because of it. Now when I hear this song, I do not think about what transpired, rather I listen to it for it's own meaning and what it really means to me. It is one those songs I never tire of in spite of it all. Thank you both for this reaction and I'm really glad you both love the song as much as I do.

Wow. What a story. Thanks for sharing it. It actually shows the power of both song and story. For even in it’s negative energy, it shows how powerful it is as a landmark. And as you say, bittersweet, both sides of the equation.

As Steve said, thank you for sharing your experience. While I am sorry to hear of what happened, I am a firm believer that all happens for a reason. As a child of a mom who also left my dad and I for another man, I can tell you my dad and I are super close and I admire the hell out of him. I also got two amazing sisters out of my moms new relationship and a stepfather who always loved me as his own. Sending love to you and your girls!! 💗

The lead singer and songwriter - Mick Hucknall - wrote this song when he was 17. He came up with the chorus 7 years later. This song was on their first album "Picture Book" in 1985. So, the Montreux Jazz Festival 1992, was 7 years later. This song continues to be a favorite amongst the fans. I will be seeing them for 3 concerts in England in 2025 - their 40th anniversary tour. Mick is now 64 years old and still has the awesome voice full of soul. There are many albums out there - each a little different - because Mick likes to move forward and make changes.

Mick is an amazing vocalist. I'm not sure, but I don't think they had 'Auto-Tune' back in 1992, and if not, he was actually singing live, it was an outstanding performance. Guys, please check out Mick's incredible version of 'If You Don't Know Me By Now', the old Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes track from way back. It's a stunning rendition, both on video and live. Mick Hucknall will never let you down. Pure quality. 🙋♂ Thanks.

June, 1986, I was sitting in the Admiral Benbow Inn in Penzance, Cornwall, England and a warm breeze was blowing through the door and the song came on the jukebox and the hairs on my arms and neck stood up on neck. It's one of those songs that invokes a visceral reaction. The pain and anguish are palpable. Got to see them perform live at Massey Hall in Toronto. One of the best concerts ever.

Another great reaction to a classic iconic performance. I would slightly (ever so slightly) disagree that it sounds just like the studio performance. I think it’s even better. Very similar, but not identical. And just as a slight correction, while the lead singer of UB40 is a white guy, I think you’ll see that the ethnic makeup of the band is actually diverse, or at least the original lineup.

I get frustrated with reaction videos when you think that seeing a larger image of you than the actual content. Why? It should be the other way around. If you look at your shot, most of the screen is filled with your background, not you. If you swap it around, have the video clip as the larger screen, nothing would be lost; you would still see your faces, expressions, reactions.
