How can nobody realize Winston wanted to die? He helped knowing he was going to die. He was ready to die so he could be with his buddies from the war that he missed. He just needed a noble cause to sacrifice himself for

Rachel in mummy 1999 is a perfect example of born sexy yesturday trope, she doesn't act her age. She's not bold nor mature, she was the damsel in distress to be saved, scared and kissed without permission by the men.

Last comment. I looove Oded Fehr, he is Ardeth Bay. He is also in the sequel, Mummy Returns . And you should watch the original Resident Evil movie and it's sequel (I cannot vouch for the rest, I've only seen 1-3), Oded plays Carlos in Resident Evil Apocalypse (part 2)... Who is one of my favorite characters from the game. And Brendan Fraser, you should watch Blast From the Past, if you haven't. Pure Magic.

Evie gets a couple things wrong when she’s talking about mummification. They actually DIDN’T remove the heart and brain. They left the heart in because, according to their mythology, the heart was required for Anubis to test you to see if you’re worthy of entering the Afterlife. Anubis places your heart on a scale and weighs it against a feather, and your heart needed to be lighter than a feather to be allowed access to the Afterlife (if you committed a lot of sins and didn’t atone for them, the guilt for those sins would weigh down your heart and make it heavy). As for the brain, the ancient Egyptians didn’t understand exactly what the brain was, but they DID know that it was important, because they knew that they had to relieve tension on the brain to help heal injuries to the head.

Cats aren't guardians of the underworld or anything in ancient Egyptian religion, but they were beloved pets. At one point fishnet was indeed used as very little clothing for some. And while according to Hebrew mythology the Hebrews were slaves in Egypt, there's no archaeological evidence to support it happening for real. Thank you both for such a fun reaction! ♥

1:37 it has historical references (names, items etc.) but they’re all jumbled into an ahistorical mess. That said, no one is watching this as an educational documentary lol. I’m reminded of the Ebert review of this film: "There is hardly a thing I can say in its favor, except that I was cheered by nearly every minute of it. I cannot argue for the script, the direction, the acting or even the mummy, but I can say that I was not bored and sometimes I was unreasonably pleased.”

The 2nd one is just as good, the 3rd, not so much. Was happy you guys liked this as much as I do. If you want another FANTASTIC Brendon movie, check out Blast From the Past. Imagine a misunderstanding during the Cuban Missile Crisis, a man and his pregnant wife lock themselves in their bomb shelter for 35 years. Brendon is born in the shelter then has to go “up top” for supplies after 35 years of only interacting with his parents. He stars along side Alicia Silverstone from Clueless, but she’s far from clueless in this one. It’s worth it for the dance scene alone.

In Ancient Egypt people used to dress in linen (normally, I think, undyed), which is a fabric that is very transparent; that is why they used to cover their parts with more layers of linen than the body, as can be seen in the wall paintings of the Egyptians themselves at that time

I was obsessed with this growing up, because I was in love with both Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz. The Mummy is a total bisexual awakening movie. I'm sad Brendan Fraser had that halt in his career for a while. He's so talented. He's done some really great roles lately. The Whale was amazing, obviously. But, Doom Patrol is so underrated. I fully sobbed during the finale of that show just because of his voice over performance. Rachel Weisz is in 2 of my favorite queer films (Disobedience and The Favourite). She's spectacular in everything she does. People forget John Hannah was in The Last of Us too!

I use to love this movie as a child who was obsessed with Egyptian history and mythology. There’s very few interesting movies that actually look at Egyptian themes and do it semi well. The canopic jars are real things for mummies - you’re trying to dry out a body and unfortunately the internal organs liquify after death they decomp and result in buildup of not only gasses but decay. so instead of making a ton of rotting corpses in a major city area and instead of mass burning of bodies the rich/important/wealthy would get mummified and have those parts which rot removed allowing the body to then be mostly muscle and bone which can easily dry out and be preserved. The different removed organs had significance and the jars displaying the gods heads mean those organs will be watched over and protected through the iconography. and I always felt the ghost story aspects of wandering souls or souls that take over bodies was actually somewhat accurate to how Egyptian mythology saw the human spirit - this movie felt like a decent Egyptian ghost story which is so rare to see- something that can rest but the spirit can also walk amongst the living if disturbed. The idea of ka was never really seen in films so obviously without getting into the whole (you’re American here’s what a soul is, this is the historic context of the soul and it’s treatment, this is why procedures are done in society and why things were done in religious practices)

The net dress and wide necklace that Anuk su Namun was wearing was pretty accurate, and you can see examples like that in museums. During the Millenia the Pharoah’s ruled, nudity was not really taboo. People dressed for the weather, which meant decorating the body more than wearing clothes, as such. While loincloths were common, bare breasted women were just as common. Women decorated their bare breasts with make-up, emphasising their nipples and veins. And like Anuksunamun here, sometimes the wealthy wore gold leaf on their nipples. I’m really glad you liked The Mummy, it’s still one of my favourite films. It managed to be like Indiana Jones while being very much enough of its own thing to not feel like a copy. Its magnificent balance between comedy, pathos, action, satire and romance is matched by True Lies, and Galaxy Quest. (Although the romances in Galaxy quest are not as prominent, it’s still a magnificent multigenre masterpiece)

I know this probably sounds crazy, but the original Mummy (1932) is a great film that you would enjoy.

The beetle scene was the first thing I have ever seen that made me actually scream and cry in fear, I was 4 😅 I was watching from behind the sofa while my sister was watching it and when I saw that I literally ran out the front door

4:30 They're waiting for the people on horseback to be in range. Bullets don't reach forever, theyre not magic or lasers. Your target has to be close enough that the bullet can reach them. It amazes me how many people don't realize this.

I’ve shot several different WW I and pre 1900 rifles. Hitting consistently at 200 - 250 yards with iron sites takes a good shot. Under pressure it would be even harder.

concerning historical accuracy, they mixed different real people in different times and kinda made a mix of it all lol, but it's still a fantastic movie, just not accurate where the "real people" are concerned. For example, the Medjay were real but they were more like elite mercenaries or fighters than bodyguards, the Book of the Dead was more like an instructional manual for entering the afterlife (and was more like a scroll), Hamunaptra was not a real city, and the Hom-Dai method of mummifying is not a real thing either. Imhotep was a real priest though :)

I love The Mummy... it's just the right amount of comedy and action. I would like to suggest a movie you can react to. "To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar" It stars Wesley Snipes, Patrick Swayze, and John Leguizamo. It's not a movie you would think Wesley Snipes or Patrick Swayze would be in.. but it is good.

Brendan Fraser is one of the rare gems of hollywood. he was ostracized for standing with women during the me too movement. But like he's one of the few actors you never hear anything bad about.....even during the concept that the divorce was messy it wasn't to say bad things about him

and appareantly he was put on black list by some producer who'se sexual advancement he rejected. That lead Fraser suffering depression but I am so glad he is back now.

He was also injured doing stunts for the third Mummy movie and needed recovery time. Between his time away and the blacklist for trying to report his sexual assault, his career took a big hit. I’m so glad he’s back performing now.

Imhotep was actually real person in ancient Egypt. He was an Egyptian chancellor to the Pharaoh Djoser, possible architect of Djoser's step pyramid, and high priest of the sun god Ra at Heliopolis.
