I remember how surreal this ending was, it always creeped me out when I was younger. The early seasons of Hey Arnold tended to have somber or bittersweet endings at times.

@@candicehoneycutt4318 Ironically, the ghost bride aspect would be used time & time again by Nickelodeon's rival Disney for its Haunted Mansion attraction, namely its climatic attic scene, although the inaugural attraction's antebellum New Orleans plantation exterior was created in 1963, but the interior with its 999 Grim Grinning residents - including the Bride (whether the tragically forlorn 1969 to 2006 Beating Heart Bride or year 2007+ schizo Black Widow Bride chatterbox Constance "Connie" Hatchaway-Hightower; Originally called Abigail Peachcleaver as merely a Hanging Portrait, the latter found herself greedily married to 5 wealthy husbands-to-be before doing them all in, with her latest husband, George Hightower, being her last, since, as the brother to Harrison Hightower - the owner of the Hollywood Hotel forever trapped in the terrifying alternate dimension of sight & tower narrated by the droning tones of Rod Sterling & surviving in our reality as the _Twilight Zone Tower of Terror_ [still in existence at Walt Disney World's Hollywood Studios in Orlando, Florida, in the 2nd park within France's Disneyland Paris, in Tokyo Disneyland & possibly in the dual Chinese Disneyland parks of Hong Kong Disneyland & Disneyland Shanghai, too, since the one in the original Disneyland in Anaheim, California was given a _Guardians of the Galaxy_ makeover as the "Mission Breakout" attraction based on the recent Marvel Cinematic Universe movies starring former WWE superstar "The Animal" Dave Batista as a live-action Drax the Destroyer], his restless spirit never let his selfish murderess ex have any peace, so that in the end, she ended up ultimately dying of old age as the supposed inheritor of the American Haunted Mansions, with all of the other ghostly residents welcoming her, the Hatbox Ghost upon his 2015 re-materialization & any stray, unsuspecting "foolish mortal" visitors to the afterlife after-party) - wasn't finalized until 1969 (curiously, the same year that _Sesame Street_ debuted onto public television 50 years ago), thanks to the arrival of the Chicago World's Fair of 1964 to 1965 that brought forth the innovation of audio-animatronics holding off production, the former walk-through haunted house concept being jettisoned in favor of using the omnimover conveyor ride system from the retired _Journey Through Inner Space_ Tomorrow Land attraction & "Uncle Walt" Disney's shock death putting Imagineers at odds regarding the direction of the attraction, which is why it has that disjointed "Scary Funny" vibe running through it.

Interesting that they were still using an old steam locomotive to pull a commuter train for steel mill workers, instead of a modern diesel one. But then again, a lot of old vehicles are used on this show, and not just Grandpa Phil's Packard, but Big Bob's car, and those 50s/60s-styled crosstown buses...

I kinda always thought _Hey Arnold!_ was a bit of a period peace and I'd rather see an old steamer in active service then rusting away in a scrap yard. Still Steam Engine like her weren't fully phased out till the 60's in the US. Those that were Preserved have long outlived the Diesels that were meant to replace them.

This series is set in the 90's it is very possible that the steel meel had the old mocolotive as these machines were eventually bought as second handed vehicles as cheap alternatives of transportation, much like today you have modern electric trains but some places still use older models for cost cutting.

My favorite episode along with 4 Eyed Jack. I love how much detail they put into the Engine and Sound Effects. Engine 25 was patterned after a Norfolk & Western K-1 class 4-8-2 Mountain type locomotive, and it was said in an interview that Craig Bartlett got the inspiration for Engine 25 from an eerie looking black and white photo. So if I had to guess, it was the famous night photo of K-1 #104 stopped to take on Water at Bristol VA, shot by O.Winston Link. I find it kind of amusing they changed the lettering to "Great Northern" on the tender.

I am legitimately curious to what Brainy was doing on that train and why Gerald helped Helga throw him out. Also, why didn't they jump off with Brainy once they got the door to open if they thought they were going to their doom? I'm 31 and I still need those answers!!
