Thank you for this. It was so annoying when the "Open file location - right click - create shortcut" option wasn't there. I even tried drag and drop from the pinned app section of the Start menu and that didn't work. Didn't think to go one step further to go into All apps. The relief I felt when it finally worked!!! It's not just shortcuts. I tried to drag something else on the desktop, a browser URL or something else, and Windows11 wouldn't let me. This serves no purpose and it just makes users angry. I think I searched for 25 minutes to find a solution to this until I found this video. This was for a friend's PC btw. This whole ordeal convinced me to stay far away from Win11 for as long as I can.

For anyone else wondering how to make shortcuts for files and not apps, open file explorer > find the folder with the file you want to short cut > press the plus sign with “New” next to it in the top left corner > press shortcut > I’m sure you’ve got the rest 🤙

Thanks for your tutorial. But my concern is deeper. For an unknown reason 3 days ago all my shortcuts disappeared for the desktop. Now I click on an item to shortcut I get a reply - this exists, make a second and I say yes but no shortcut is on my screen. My screen has only the windows provided photo and nothing else! No recycle bin, no anything. I do have a few shortcuts that work on my toolbar. How can I get the windows 11 to renew my shortcuts? I'm going crazy here, please help!
