I think the Brouwer is the smoothest knife I've ever owned. Directly out of the box it was almost dropping freely engaging the lock bar, with no blade play whatsoever. Love this knife.

The more I carry and service this knife, the more I like it. It is just simple and functional all around. Super simple design that will be durable over time, the action is great on PB washers. Nothing to break or go wrong like tiny springs or moving parts or bearings. Fantastic little knife that has great ergonomics and just works. It is heavy in my rotation now along with bugout, chaparral and R2D2 for harder use.

Knife pivot lube is a knife pivot lube. Mind blown. When I read the g10 had a liner, I did not understand, but now it all makes sense.

Do you carry a brand new knife for a bit for a little bit of break and then clean, or clean and then start using to break in?
I agree with mph seti; the cost has to come down substantially. There are plenty of knives that have similar materials coming in at $80, $100, and $115.

It's not as easy as you make it look. I like the green for a change of pace.

I like everything about this model except for the choice of clip. I really think this one needed a wire clip as it's more like a Sage or Chaparral than a PM2 or Native. As for those complaining about price, I think the price is OK based on the build quality and materials and the fact it's made in a country with fair labor standards in one of the most skilled factories in the industry (Taichung), and is also a collaboration (licensed) design. Could it be made elsewhere, for cheaper, and be "close enough" in quality that a lot of people probably wouldn't notice? Probably...but it would mean compromising on some ethical concerns and shooting for higher volume sales at lower margins, and that's not what Spyderco does. I do not believe they can really do what they do for less without changing who they are as a company, and overall I like what they're doing.

ZT0450CF is made in USA and costs just $5 more than this knife. ZT has better steel and a real CF scale so the complaints about the price are justified.
@TheTimLara6 жыл бұрын
@@DmitryNaydov The ZT0450CF is also an established model that has been in production for a while, which tends to reduce cost compared to new models. Note that Spyderco's higher volume, long-running USA-made models like the PM2 are also cheaper than their new models made in Taichung. The CF scale on the ZT is an upgrade, but I wouldn't really say S35VN is meaningfully better than S30V. In terms of performance they're basically the same given equal quality heat treat from good manufacturers. Could the Brouwer be $10-$15 cheaper? Maybe. But not $50+ cheaper like some people are wishing. Spyderco has said in their forums that it is actually MORE expensive for them to make knives in Taichung than it is to make them in Golden, CO. The reason they use Taichung is because they don't have enough capacity to make everything in Golden, it is not done to save cost. (Their cost-saving lines are the budget knives made in China like Byrd.)

One of my favorite things about Spydercos is that you can spydie flick them open, and unfortunately unless you are a leftie this is not possible to do with this knife.
@dr.oetqer3 жыл бұрын
I've no problem with spydie flicking the Brouwer, just enough of the hole left to get a proper grip.

All the faults of a typical Spuderco- no sharpening notch, visible grind lines, uninspired handle scale contours and material; but none of the good things like a leaf shaped blade or thumb ramp, I won't mention a liner lock as a plus or minus as it's more of a taste thing, I despise them but....whatever at least there's a spidiehole.....

I left out the shitte pocket clip, but that's so ubiquitous on spydercos these days I'm numb to it.

@@jacknemo8021 Also it costs $175. I need more value/dollar than this knife at $175
