This match represented the beginning of the end of Mcenroe's period as the best

Johns downfall in the mid 80's..getting mixed up with Tatum O'Neal and dabbling with playing guitar as a would be Rock musician. All of this slide at at only 26..whuda waste..Mac should of gotten at least a few more majors if he stayed away from the celebrity trappings..Robert at 68.

Crazy to think that when you watch him steamroll Lendl in the 1984 U.S. Open final to cap off a year that he was almost unbeatable, it would be his last Slam victory

Had Mac won he would've played a youngster by the name of Becker that year. Curran played amazing.

@@haroldsmyth6685 what doesn't end well? Him being an arse? No it doesn't tend to end well cos disputing line calls constantly never does cos then you just get a reputation as a trouble maker and umpires become wary of you and your chances of being penalised increase. I rarely question rules cos I've done that and it goes nowhere, you go through all the arguments and still the rule remains so what's the point, you may as well accept it and move on. The players that don't just drag themselves down.

Now that McEnroe is in his sixties he must look back at this and think what an idiot he was.I wonder what he would commentate on something like this today without being a hypocrite. I think it was gamesmanship.

Most of the time he was right and had the balls to call out bad calls! And surprise surprise now we have hawk eye and other tools because they get so many calls wrong 🤷🏽♂️

Mc Enroe wa s so childish and ridiculous on a tennis court. May be one of the most talented but his behaviour was terrible. He did not train physically moreover, and those 2 factors explain his brutal downfall which started in 85.
