I'm really glad nicky started to do these quick break down videos. I've been struggling with a few small details on this move and he hit all of my issues in a very technical methodical manner without over loading detail the details. Bravo Nicky! Keep up the awesome videos.

Conspiracy theory about Danaher and the high wrist in mma- this specific guillotine was meme fighter Cody Mackenzie’s only move but it was so effective that he got into the UFC with just this submission. On the season of TUF where Cody is on team GSP, GSP brought in Danaher to be the team jiu jitsu coach, and DDS would later iconically use this specific guillotine in competition. I’ve had a hard time tracking the lineage of the high wrist gilly because I know other people like Nate Diaz have used it since forever so I can’t verify that this is true, but I like to imagine that Danaher picked up this dim mak strangle from an Alaskan fish canner who once wore a literal pair of basketball shorts from Target (with the price tag still on) into the UFC octagon

I dont know how you got so manny likes but cody mackenzie locked his hands in a scpecific way, you can actually go watch it, this one is also a high wrist but as you see you NEVER lock your hands, you go for the elbow as nicky says; thats a huge difference since you trap the arm so its harder to escape, i remember gordon talking about this in his IG
@hesjustthisguyyaknow5 ай бұрын
this isn't what cody did. he did a guillotine with his hands locked together (if i remember correctly he used a gable grip) with his free arm underneath the choking arm. he then pushed his forearm upward to squeeze the neck instead of the traditional way of having your free arm above the choking arm and pulling .

Dual Escape is a clever way of saying ashi garami stalemate. Folkstyle wrestling is a single escape sport meaning top position is winning position in folkstyle wrestling. Dual Escape is submission grappling meaning you mount offense from either top or bottom, and in BJJ now we often see two engaged in ashi garami where they both fight from their sides. CJI nickname from Me , example: "Dual Escape , Athens 2026".

AKA Marcellotine
@DrewDarce5 ай бұрын
Good bit different than the Marcelotine. Marcelo did high elbow guillotines, and he’d keep his wrists down low (below their shoulder line) with none of the opponent’s arms inside his grip, and he’d lift his support elbow super high to block their shoulder and add pressure. Marcelo’s a guillotine master for sure, though.
@MercedesSLSJpak5 ай бұрын
There’s a difference, both are arm-out gillys but for the high elbow (marcellotine) you literally bring your elbow up high and frame on your opponents shoulder as you press their head down with your chest. The high wrist is closer to a front naked (ninja choke) but you don’t fig4 your arms - the high wrist has a decent history in MMA with Holloway and Nate Diaz deploying it a lot, and it was basically Cody Mackenzie’s only move lol
@zZTraCe5 ай бұрын
You definitely didn’t watch the video. And you read the title wrong. High elbow and high wrist are two different things.
