Poor woman. She's most likely touring in support of her literally brilliant "The Drama of Exile" album here -- an album on which she wrote EVERY song (save for 2 amazing covers) and all she gets is being peppered with questions about things from decades ago, non stop.

When she says "my only regret is being born a woman instead of a man", I don't see this like sarcasm. In fact, for me, it's very serious. Every woman in the world already have think the same thing once in life, because born a woman in a world like this is a very sad thing sometimes. Nico knew this sad-side very well.

I love Nico's contribution to music. You do not have to necessarily belt it out like Aretha(who I also love) to be an effective singer (and by effective I mean the ability to make the listener feel emotion).
@TheDreamingJune

Nico was an amazing singer. She may not have had a wide vocal range but her voice was very commanding and unique and full of emotion. That matters more to me than being technically brilliant (that's not to say I don't love singers like Aretha btw).

She's humouring the interviewer big time. The Velvets weren't kicked out of The Cafe Bizarre 'cause people couldn't dance to them, but rather 'cause they were too loud & cacophonous. It was a Folk club. Moe Tucker could only play tambourine! Nico's having a laugh.

This can only happen to the deepest most sensitive, artistic and intelligent beings; painfully fragile to the effects of the insensitivity of others. That's where the 'scary' look comes from- it takes years and masses of sensitivity and personality to come close to understanding. Most, never will- in a way they're lucky. Drugs are the symptom not the cause, in her case. Poor girl- I wish she'd lived long enough to have a better chance at happiness. I hope she's in peace now

Not sure, but I think this interview was recorded in the Warehouse Club in 1982, when I was also in a band. When you're on stage, it can be disorientating...so you pick out three people to sing to...1 to the left; 1 in the centre; 1 on the right. I was the guy on the left. She also had a fling with Iggy Pop in '69, he appears in the "Evening of light" vid. according to Iggy Pops bio., she also taught Iggy how to pleasure a lady downstairs if you know what i mean. And Iggy was inspired to become a singer after seeing Jim Morrison play his hometown of Ann Arbour and Morrison was impressed by Nico and the Velvets live show when they came to L.A. interesting interview, Nico was quite charming....which reminds me, are there any decent female singers these days who are individualistic and not bland...the likes of leona lewis and britney spears make me feel pessimistic about the current music scene...there doesen't seem to be much creativity and excitement these days, it seems...

Don't care what she's on! she's class! You don't look at another group in any live performance and say,"Oh look at their pupils, they're all on coke" or "they're all on speed, now do you?In a lot to cases it went withe the territory!

hmm, I suppose so...although they don't really rock my boat particularly....hmm, the singer with Broadcast is quite good, as is Kristeen Young and the band Electrelane and so on.....i don't know, it's just that the past to me seems more glamorous than today.... i do listen to music outside the mainstream.......it's just that i feel very disillusioned with this decade, it seems very dull at times....

She was a fascist sympathizer and had little to no sense of humor, yet she was very fond of her friend John Cooper Clarke. Proof that opposites attract. That and the mutual smack addiction.

@DCI-Frank Yes well, maybe some aspects of fascism are based in truth and actual, real Godliness? Have ever considered that possibility, Frank? Probably not, you’d be too scared.

I mean Heroin was and still is a masterpiece in its own right, all the Reed songs off that album except European Son are crafts of their own. Not to mention their later stuff which tops their debut
