Yhea there seems to be a bit of a distance between governments doing, and having the ability, and infrastructure to do the things... vs what those governments end up doing with it... In reality it seems those two things are rarely disconnected... Like, she's not wrong, sure we (as far as I know) don't set up political prisoners as organ farms, or MJ Fox around with radio active tea for journalists we don't like... but we seem to be ok with selling and doing business with both, and the reality is that where the line is between when a government starts crossing lines, and where the line was they crossed 5 years ago is variable but usually a one way direction, People don't walk back power that they have... and the whole reason we have checks and balances in our system of government is to attempt to recognize that it needs to be that way to keep that line as hard to cross as possible... the further you are, the more ability and structure and cultural acceptance you have with the thing, and the cognitive dissidence that you use to get everyone there... would really suck if you just happen to wanna use it for some extra cash on the organ market, or really didn't like that joke they made about you at the Post... 'Cause were not like that' and 'we don't do that' is a bad excuse and it's kinda nuts to see her validate that very notion several times.

Lex, thanks for this interview! I was consistently impressed with the way this conversation flowed so nicely from point to point. It felt like y’all really worked together to flesh out ideas in a way that made it easy to listen to while not shying away from interesting anecdotes and relevant technical details. I’m sure that interviewing a skilled interviewer lends itself to this (and probably good editing - thanks y’all!), but I wanted to point it out because I feel like you sometimes sell yourself short in this regard. I know it’s important to keep the ego in check to promote the struggle for excellence, I just wanted to point out how clearly this interview illustrates the skill gap getting smaller; And coupled with the fact that it’s 2 hours long, I can honestly say I don’t know of anyone else in the game that could pull off a piece of content as interesting AND informative as this. Watching you humbly undertake your vision and never giving up has been a huge source of motivation/inspiration for me. So grateful to exist in this instance of the simulation with you!

I’m a little confused by her comments on Argentina. Her description of why it is a hub for hackers (essentially that it’s a relatively poor country) could apply to almost every third world country. And Argentina actually has a super advanced education and health care system (maybe that’s why?). Also she said that she most of the people at the hacker conference that she attended didn’t even speak Spanish. So how integrated were they into the Argentinian hacker culture?
@jamesalec13212 жыл бұрын
Argentina has been a great place for IBM and HP to send jobs to, jobs that Americans once held. I worked for IBM at Avaya as a server and network administrator. The job went to Argentina, had to train my replacements. Went to Bristol Myers Squib and HP bought the IT department and administrators had to once again train their Argentinian replacements. Then we were kicked out the door. If we didn't "train our replacements with the same zeal and vigor we showed while making the company successful, than any compensation or benefits we had coming would be put in jeopardy." The company's words. Many network admins couldn't find good work afterwards because the companies were only looking for H1B visa holders, which Americans do not have. Our resumes were not even considered.

Governments are as trustworthy as a cartel. You give them what they demand or you will find yourself as an example for others not to follow. Both governments and cartels chose this perception because they want to appear dangerous so yeah.. as jordan would say, tread lightly.

Please go to Spotify or Rumble then you can speak freely without KZbin's censorship. Everyone should move to those places specifically to prove a point and end YTs and Googles reign.....People can go to the other sites just as easily. Why give YT the views and power?

@General Woe I don't think Rumble is selling out anytime soon they just picked up Locals and are going public via SPAC with the CEO holding a massive percentage of shares so that way there isn't a coup de tate with random planted board members. They also with the SPAC funds have quite the funds to bring people to them. They've already picked up Bongino and offered Rogan an Im guessing its only the beginning. Idk if you watch Rogan since he went to Spotify but it's nice watching and listening to people unfiltered showing whatever they want to and not hiding behind YT ToS. Yes Tim is pretty horrible about staying under their ToS I will give him credit for the fact he does do his uncensored show on his website I think he would be so much bigger if he did that show Mon-Fri rather than bow to YT. And $10 a month to watch a short little 30 minute clip just isnt worth it in my opinion. I understand getting some popularity before going behind a pay wall or just getting some points across to the people watching YT but their shows should not be based around YTs ridiculous rules. Having a podcast where you can be 100% authentic is where the future is in my opinion no matter whose website its through just as long as it happens. Nobody trusts MSM anymore the majority of people are now getting their news from podcasts or reading journalists work on Substack because people are sick of the phony censorship, tip toeing around certain topics and being lied to day or night. If Rumble holds true then it may actually give big tech a run for its money. But at this point idc where they go just as long as it isn't YT. KZbin used to be great but they and ever other huge tech and social media platforms have played with fire one too many times and got burned🔥 And alot do just re-upload to other sites but then you have people like Styxhexenhammer666 who just does 10 min or so clips on YT and then go to other places to give the real shows which is what Tim should be doing right now. I hope to see alot more of these things happening in the future, but who knows, we will see I suppose 🤷♂️
@generalwoe3592 жыл бұрын
Has nothing to do with being sold - it's the fact that most major creators on the platform are just re-upping their KZbin videos to rumble and leaving the "can't talk about this on KZbin" shit still in the video despite the fact it's on rumble Man if only you read the last comment where i said this exact shit before typing a wall of text that doesn't address shit I've brought up As long as yt has their thumb on the scale like they do nothin gonna change anytime soon regardless of who owns what

The tinkering with a bunch of stuff makes a lot more sense to me now. My youngest brother used to do that. He did end up working as an engineer. I guess he was good at it. I remember that I got him a new bike for his 12 th birthday. And he took it apart because he said that he wanted to make it go faster. How? It makes more sense now. I didn't get upset with him. I just paid to fix his bike again. I didn't want to break his spirit. I enjoyed this conversation.

I Just wanted to say that problem you are talking about in 1:10:06 and the rest of the conversation with NIcole Perlroth about security, identity and ownership of data is something I'm working with my team now to bring it to life in next 2-3 years.I believe we are creating the next step in blockchain technology development.You've been also discussing very similar topic some time ago with Niail Ferguson. Right now we are going to release half decentralised software to introduce normal people who are not interested into blockchain and decentralisation, with decentralised identity through asset management ecosystem that will help people get of bad debt, build wealth and protect personal and financial data so more people can get comfortable with decentralisation while we can focus on building the new kind of technology that eventually will allow our users be in 100% in control of their data. By the way amazing episode.😁

Cool interview. I loved where she talks of the advice about living normally and use the shield of protection as a NY Times journalist given what she does. But then she says but then Jamal Kashoggi changed my world view. If Jamal Kashoggi changed your world view…then I’d highly recommend you start studying and reading more geopolitical books, reading global news sources and diligently reading about the countries you’re going to because that was a little surprising in the way it happened, but not really when you consider the warnings and dangers known about going to a country allied with Saudi Arabia like that. Admire her empathy though, very inspiring

"mutually assured destruction" from hacking and security is between state actors when both sides know the other. When anyone can acquire these tools and attacker is unknown, we cannot rely on "mutually assured destruction". Take best cybersecurity precautions and disconnect from WWW as far as possible - ideally drop your devices

So I am a CISSP and use to do in-person social engineering tests for the banks we were auditing. Typically I would google who was in charge of IT or the ISO and name drop them saying that they sent me down to check on some stuff before the audit, or that I was new and needed a tour. I would say at least 60% of the time I was able to get behind a teller line and plug in a USB left in a server room alone, or taken into the vault (pretty much nothing in vaults these days besides safety deposit), without them EVER making a call and verifying who I was. Also, I am using the podcast for CPEs and this can be some documentation.

Her response about the "metaverse" and what that means for our children was the best part of this interview and also the most important! Do we really want our most meaningful experiences as human beings to be online??? Please look into the work of Alison McDowell and her interviews about this topic.... It's truly horrendous what we're willingly walking into with this technology and we have to be educated if we want to resist! She would make an excellent guest for this show!
