Aging is a privilege, absolutely. I have a chronic illness, and I wasn't supposed to live until 30. I hit 31 last year and I am very grateful. I WANT to get older. I want to grow wrinkled and grey with my partner. It is probably something that won't happen...which is sad. But I embrace aging. So much.

I’m basically the same age as the last two comments here. I’m 21 turning 22 and when I ask people what age I look they say roughly my sister’s age, 16-17. She wears make up and dresses nicely, so she gets seen as older. I don’t wear make up and wear plain clothes so I wonder if that contributes to it. I think people expect people to look like fashion runway models or dolled up celebrities. Just look at Mille Bobbie brown, she’s like 18 or something but her dressers dress her like she’s 25 and she ends up looking like that. Even when she was younger they were doing that. Really weird.

That's what made me love my grey hairs, mainly because my dad loves them so much and often reminds me how they represent experience and wisdom😊 that and seeing all the elders on regional TV (when you reach 100 years you automatically become famous here lol) helped me crawl out of the very bad place I was in. This is a bit of a personal story, but I wanted to share. I've lived with my grandma for most of my life. She raised me. She has worked hard her whole life, pulling her family up from poverty to solidly middle class. She's so strong and is a huge role model for me. A couple of years ago, we we're putting makeup on next to each other, something we often do to bond. She looked over her face, across the lines and spots, and sighed. "I wish I could afford to get this fixed." I was a little surprised. She was rarely so vulnerable, and was normally much more confident. I was quiet for a few moments. Honestly, I didn't know how to respond. After a while though, I said "Can you remind me how old your mother was when she passed?" She gave me a confused look. "She was 56. Why?" "Well," I said, "You just turned 79. Think about all the medical and quality-of-care advancements that have happened to allow you to get here. And that's not to mention your own effort. Aging should be a medal of honor. And I think you look beautiful, anyway." She actually started tearing up when I said this. She thanked me... and, mostly joking, said she'd still like to get work done 😅 She just turned 81 last month, and she's still beautiful. I hope I can be like her when I'm 81!

what scares me is people lumping sunscreen in with "anti-aging" and including not wearing sunscreen as part of "pro-aging." Please wear sunscreen. Skin cancer is not a joke. Edit because people are missing the point: I am not saying that isn't a trend to wear sunscreen specifically to prevent aging. However, that doesn't change the fact that getting just one sunburn every two years triples your risk of developing skin cancer, and wearing sunscreen decreases your risk of developing skin cancer by half. In fact, the reason sun exposure makes your skin "age" faster is that your cells are actively taking permanent, irreversible damage. Wearing sunscreen is always safer than not wearing sunscreen. It's stupid to put your actual health at risk to spite a bunch of TikTokers that don't know you exist and are not impacted by your personal decision not to wear sunscreen. Don't be stupid.

I mean technically sun screen DOES have anti-aging effects, but like... Preventing aging through good health shouldn't be seen as a bad thing. Aging, while natural, is a sign that you're getting older, aka closer to death. Having good health with the intention of maintaining your body is not bad, Being old SUCKS. Nevermind the beauty aspect, joint pain and dry skin is painful. You get it... Especially the "aging gracefully" part... This issue can be expanded to most flaws as well. Such as stretch marks, cellulite, or being fat. I'm a millennial and I started receiving "you look great for your age" comments at 25. Most of these were from gen z girls about 5 years my junior. I always knew it was intended as a compliment, but it felt like a kinder way of saying that I was seen as old and past my prime. Almost every birthday in my 20s filled me with dread because I was getting closer and closer to 30. Now that I'm 29 (about to be 30), I can't believe how much time I wasted being anxious about aging instead of simply enjoying my youth.

I think "anti-aging" is also a very new concept. We didn't have all of these creams, injections, medications, etc. If you watch a movie or show from the 70s or earlier, you'll see stars with wrinkles, sunspots, etc. Even though they were still not the majority, I feel like it was more accepted as "normal" because then was no alternative. Also, I am 23 as well and am very much swept up in the "anti-aging" craze. I've always looked younger than my age, even as a child. Rn, people usually think I'm anywhere between 15 and 21, but I still stress myself out about "aging too fast" and "preventing" aging. When it overwhelms me, I look at my mom, an almost 50 year old woman who looks great and lives her life to the fullest. In fact, she's in Vegas right now, living it up. Our lives don't end with our youth. Rather, our experiences show with our age. Embrace the wrinkles and grey hairs with grace as opposed to rejecting them in shame.

My mom is in her 50s and has gray hair, and I'm obsessed with it. It's like a white to dark gray gradient and it's mostly in her bangs and in streaks and it's so so pretty. She never believes me when I say I hope I inherit her greying. According to her, everyone in her family grays really early (like mid-20s) and she calls it the "family curse" but I can't wait. Unfortunately my hair type appears to be much closer to my not-graying dad's, so if i don't gray by the time i'm thirty then i'll prob just get it done gray myself lmao. ive been witness to my mom's self-love journey and i can say that she is much more self-confident now that she doesn't dye her hair religiously and im super proud of her, and im working towards doing the same towards my own insecurities (i will say showing her the silver-hair trend from the 2010s helped lmao) it's ok and even awesome to age!!! great video

Everytime i see the fanatism around youthfullness i am reminded of that book I had to read "la Dame en Bleue"(Lady in blue for the English version) by Noelle Chatelet, a book about a 50yo deciding to embrace and love aging, and not aging as a 50yo but aging like an old woman, it is quite strange nowadays to read about a woman cherishing and expecting every new wrinkle, caring for the strands of white appearing gradually and allowing herself to be happy in this way. It is also interesting to see that even as she herself strive to be an old woman, the world around her still see her as her age. It was a pretty sweet book.

i started graying really young, maybe when i was around 16? and i've always thought that gray hair is so ethereal. to live long enough to be completely gray really is such a privilege. I'm 25, turning 26 this month, and the closer my birthday gets I get a huge feeling of impending doom, and constantly think about the concept of immortality (specifically because i have massive fomo LOL) but slowly i'm coming to terms with aging, because i get excited thinking about everything that i haven't experienced yet. it's a super slippery slope, and training your mind to think otherwise when women have been fed the youthful=beauty nonsense since the beginning of time sucks but it's nice to know that it's sort of a blanket feeling among so many people, there's so much comfort in knowing that for some reason. There's also the concept of aging out of certain things like media, music, style, like you can't listen to this because you're old and you can't wear this because you're old -- and the realization of doing anything you want because you dictate your own life is so important to remind ourselves of. aging and dying is something i'm still working on coming to terms with but living a full life is so magical in and of itself.

Eye bags really shouldn’t be happening at 13. Are you sleeping 8-12 hours? Drinking enough water/eating fibrous vegetables? Snacking on foods that hydrate you like melons and cucumbers help hydrate your body. When you see people putting face masks on with cucumber and green tea, it’s way more effective to consume them instead. Hopefully that helps. When I was 14 I was getting home, doing homework, having dinner while watching a couple shows on prime time tv, and then chatting or texting friends for a little bit. Then reading and listening to calming music and going to bed. So going to bed around 8 and waking up around 5 or 6. I’m 28 now and people think I’m 21. Sleep and hydration is so important.

Young children getting so into skincare legit scares me. When I was 12, I had to use quite intense skincare because I had developed really bad pimples and it turned into cystic acne when I was 13. I felt so alone because most of my friends didn’t use any of the stuff I had to use and I would feel so embarrassed at sleepovers to take out my toiletries bag full of skincare stuff and them asking me what it was. Fast forward 4-5 years, I’m now 17 and my acne has healed and thankfully I was able to access procedures that were able to remove my scaring. And now seeing these young girls use retinol on their faces day and night, not knowing what it even does, scares the me so much as they don’t even need it on their crystal clear skin. Harsh ingredients for younger children should only ever be used if they have severe skin conditions

I have issues with picking at my skin and like… trying to squeeze black heads and scratching at any rough dry skin, so I was like “oh I’ll try and reduce them with moisturiser and exfoliant so I don’t actually injure myself” and I’m not kidding out of the entire aisle I think I found 2 moisturisers that didn’t say anti ageing.

I’m eighteen right now, and genuinely some of the things I am looking forward to most in life are growing up to get calloused hands and crows feet/smile lines. They’re just so wonderful. I think having crows feet makes you so pretty when you laugh, and having calloused hands shows all the care and time and love that you put into what you’ve made and created. Age, _life_ , is precious. Wisdom and happiness and understanding seem near-unobtainable as somebody who has spent so little time on this earth. Cherish your age; don’t be afraid to let your body show that you’ve led a life well lived.

My mom always says how much she enjoys being older compared to her younger years. Being young (according to her) is filled with uncertainty and anxiety for the future, while being in your 30’s and older you’re a lot more comfortable and have yourself figured out. Idk why people are so scared of getting older. As a 16 year old, the only negatives I can see is that I will have to learn to pay taxes, vote, get a job, etc, plus I’m sad abt leaving my childhood behind. But I cannot wait to finally have my sh!t together and know what my life will be like.

This video hit me hard. Growing up I was always told how young I looked for my age and how much I’d appreciate that when I got older, but in my late 20’s my appearance aged significantly, largely in part due to battling with severe health conditions for years. I use moisturizer and sunscreen but beyond that any time, money, or energy I spend trying to prevent or undo aging seems to only make me feel more concerned about my appearance and more miserable about it. It’s a miracle that I’m even alive and I don’t want to spend the precious time I have left obsessing over how I look.

Yessssss I've held this view FOR YEARS, so it's exciting to see more people catch on! It always makes me sad when my friends have mini existential crises around their birthdays because they've been taught that aging is scary. I've always approached my birthday from the viewpoint of "yesss I made it another level!" Now that I'm 31 and I'm starting to see some minor wrinkles in my skin, I'll admit that I'm paying slightly more attention to it. I googled botox the other day (not that I have disposable income for beauty procedures). That being said... when I was younger and had super acne-prone, oily skin, all the older ladies would tell me "you'll be happy about it when you're older cuz it'll keep you looking young!" and they were right 😅 I can't wait to get gray hair though. My boss in college had the most spectacular, thick, luscious, silvery gray hair. Goals.
