another great install video man! I just got my FAL and I'm fixing to be Notifier certified. Excited for it. I can't wait to install a system for my mother hopefully soon enough. I wanna learn to bend conduit and flush mount all the rough in so I can do a clean job haha. As of right now my demo systems are all surface mount in my hobby room. Your cable management in the panel is clean btw! Very satisfying. Excited to see the programming and testing portion!

The system you are installing is very similar to what replaced the old system at my school only my school has a conventional system since that is what used to be there and my school is flipping tiny. The panel is an FCI S3 that is in the worst location for a panel, a high traffic hallway that is as wide as a non walk in closet, the panel is a flush mount but had a surface mount install. The old panel was the rare FCI FC-72 which worked perfectly and could be easily expanded if they could get an extra zone cards. The old system had a ton of character but it lost it all when it got replaced. It was quite scary when it went off but now it sounds lame. It was a mix and match but not anymore, the only signs of what it was is the very old simplex heat detectors.

if you wanted to link to the garage you could use two conventional monitor modules triggered by relays on each panel then use a keyswitch to disable for testing that changes over to an eol resistor when off so no faults.
@nics-systems-electric
@nics-systems-electric 10 ай бұрын
Yes you could do that the problem is that fire alarm condition is always latching so you'd need to silence and reset both systems and that is why I'd do supervisory set as resettable so it would not require both systems to be reset

Questions: 1. What are you going to do about carbon monoxide? Will there be carbon monoxide detectors? 2. If yes to above, will they put the panel in supervisory? 3. Will this system be connected to a security system? Finally, 4. Will there be a dialer?
@nics-systems-electric
@nics-systems-electric 10 ай бұрын
No carbon monoxide detectors as there is no danger of it and there is no security system and no dialler because there are no phone lines in the house nor do monitoring companies except residential customers other than self monitored where they will tell you your system is an alarm with a text message but I already do that with my own set up in the garage system

Again I don't know Canadian but I don't think the incoming Lumex ground going straight into the panel is proper. If the panel is removed now the enclosure and all your devices lose their ground bond. I believe best practice would be running the incoming ground to a dedicated point on the enclosure like you would do for any other electrical box.
@nics-systems-electric
@nics-systems-electric 10 ай бұрын
Yes the Can should be bonded before going into the power supply it wasn't at the time of the video as I didn't have the nut for the stud or a ground bar I've sense have added a ground bar threaded into the can where all the bonds come to and the ground conductor from the Lummex goes through first

It is not illegal at all in fact it's very common for multiple buildings to be tied to the same system. If it's one system for multiple buildings SLC Hass to be isolated at each building and each building needs its own NAC circuit and if it's a networked system with each building having its own it Hass to be capable of providing full function for the building even in the event the network fails it has to operate as the local system still. As far as what I'm doing I will not be tying it in for alarm but may tie it in for supervisory eventually.

This doesn’t make sense to me I would have thought a security system would have worked better and been more user friendly. I think this is a bit overkill especially with the capacity/capabilities of the panel

Definitely not more user friendly I actually find them much worse plus I'm not aware of any addressable security systems so that alone is a deal breaker. Security system are cheap that's the only advantage but the cheap price is reflected in the quality.
