Hey Nic! American here, older NFPA codes state that they don't *technically* need to be bonded to pass inspections but if I recall newer installations AND retrofits MUST be bonded. Also, great work on another vid! Keep it up!

I agree about the smoke bases. They're a pain to mount, especially on single-gang boxes. I actually broke a couple of bases yesterday during an install just by trying to tighten the screws.

Yooo the new camera looks awesome! I've got the Sony a7III, and making the switch to full-frame was totally worth it. The image out of yours looks incredible, but I'd suggest not doing any digital stabilization/tracking as it looks a bit weird. The camera should have built-in image stabilization, I suggest using that. Other than that, it looks amazing!
@nics-systems-electric2 ай бұрын
Built in stabilization isn't enough alone not nearly as good as iPhone unfortunately. Not sure if it didn't render properly on all clips as I know there was an error but I had to force it anyway. I didn't have time to review the whole edited footage only took a look at the first part with stabilization applied and it looked fine.

Hey Nic there's thing called thread locker, it helps with issues like this, it goes on the threads of the screws and helps make sure the screws are tight in place, Red thread locker can only be removed with heat, I'd recommend blue thread locker

One suggestion to where I would add a smoke or heat detector is directly above the main electrical panel inside that cavity, I mean I know there is a space where smoke can travel from that cavity to the furnace room to trip the smoke detector in there but who knows how long it would take for smoke to get from that cavity to the furnace room. Got that idea from some of schools have a smoke or heat detector in those small electrical rooms.

9:49, the thing i find interesting is that, in the case of a plastic box, granted this is more 230v not 24v but in the case of a plastic box that box is not able to transmit current, which means technically grounding the box would be useless. now idk how these boxes are designed as far as screw inserts if they are bonded to the ground screw, and as far as ground fault in an SLC loop I can see why it would be ideal. (there again most of our connection boxes here in Europe / Norway is plastic and as far as electrical we would feed it to the socket / device connected itself, althou metal light fittings etc on the other hand is required to be bonded and on an RCD)
@nics-systems-electric2 ай бұрын
The bonding screw in plastic boxes is threaded into a metal strap which the device screws make contact with therefore bonding any metal devices

Great video! I installed a wired home security and fire alarm system in my house. I have an outbuilding that I would like to run a smoke detector to. Will running the wire in conduit underground from the main house to the outbuilding create a bigger hazard for a nearby lightning strike to damage my wired system? Will this underground conduit/wire run pick up more stray voltage or a difference in potential voltage from a lightning strike? Thanks!

Put in a smoke exhaust fan in your house in honor of the high school's smoke control system

Unfortunately it would be more dangerous in a house than good. It's a non-sprinklered building unlike the high school and made of combustible construction. The house would not benefit from the smoke control system for atrium walkways open stairwell evacuation.
