Automata pretty much singlehandedly resparked my interest in gaming again. I couldn't fall into a rhythm even though I had so much free time. The flow that this game facilitates is absolutely mind blowing; the player can manipulate the main characters (each with subtle nuances of their own) with the gamepad with such a high degree of precision and freedom that traversing this open world cannot adequately be described in words. You need to boot up a PS4 (or better yet PC) and truly soak it in. So glad you did a video on this and I'm so glad I found this channel when I did. Looking forward to your KH3 content.

Hearing you talk about movement reminds me a lot of Melee. That game has the smoothest, nuttiest, craziest movement in any game Ive personally played. Sometimes I just name entry glitch into an infinite time match alone and move. Wavedash, dashdance, edge cancel, etc., there are so many options and so many ways to express yourself. Movement is nutty when done right and I feel weird anymore playing a game with lackluster movement.

when you get a chance, I would recommend going through Nier's other routes. they change the game more than Automata's. to unlock D you do have to get all the weapons but you don't need 100% of them leveled up like Drakengard. i think the first Nier might appeal to you more in the full context. it has stronger characters and the emotional payoff in endings C and D is crazy.
@Noponis7 жыл бұрын
2B being the thing you expect her to be? Really? Did you not pay attention during ending C/D or not think about it at all? You know, her being an executioner and thus most of her character secretly being her attempts at walling off her feelings for 9S, since she knows she'll have to kill him over and over? Seriously, go through some of the game again or let someone point out some moments to you with that context. Shit hurts. For example the speech about hating god/fate due to being trapped in a cycle is refering to the cycle of 9S getting too curios and her having to kill him time and time again, which is why she hates fate/god. Or when right at the start of the game some NPC points out how often they see you together, indicating that she's killed him a lot of times before the game even began
@Tamacat3887 жыл бұрын
BestGuyEver I thought all that obvious mystery surrounding 2B was just a distraction from how crazy 9S was lol. I dont think anybody on planet earth was actually shocked by 2B being more emotional then she lets on. The real mystery is what YoRHa was and learning about the world.
@usernameunavalible007 жыл бұрын
BestGuyEver I don't think she was designated as an Executioner model just in case 9S became infected, the implication was that since 9S had to be so intelligent and "top of the line" to be as effective a hacker as possible, they worried that his model would eventually catch on to the deception of the yorha plan. I thought they were hinting that 2B had killed 9S for that reason before, and just showed us the times she'd killed him during the game to have a greater impact on the player.
@Tamacat3887 жыл бұрын

Thanatos388 B models were based on A2, but she only said that 2B was an Executioner, eh? Plus, we see a few other B models in the game, and unlike 2B they use different weapons, and dual wield them. Plus, Jackass points out early on that 2B stands out from other B models, who tend to be relatively dimwitted. Signs point to it being just her, or at least not all B models being E models.

I still have Drakengard 3 on my to play list, but when i do i'm going to ignore ending e. Also, i find the weapon lore to be reward enough to 100% all of the weapons in these games

Great video, but I want to point out a few things: You have a very weird definition of what a tone piece is supposed to do. You seem to think that a work being more about its atmosphere and intellectual content are somehow mutually exclusive. But some of the best tone pieces ever made - Days of Heaven, 2001: A Space Odyssey, and some of the films of Wong Kar Wai - are intellectual pieces precisely because of how they work as tone pieces. The way they use atmosphere to bring life to a certain situation is what allows them to become works that can be studied. As for the 2B/2E twist, the reason why I say it matters is because of how it re-contextualizes her suffering and her mission. The androids, even if they are more human like than the machines, are expected to be emotionless. But not only does this exist for 2B, it doubles down on the expectation for her to be empty. Not only must she be empty, she's also expected to fake that she's met 9S before. This also plays into the games themes of memory. Whereas 9S unwillingly has his memory wiped due to death or whatnot, 2B has to willingly suppress her own memory of him every time. 2B is not merely just an android who can be reprogrammed, but symbolically is doing to herself what is often done to other machines. Rather than actual programming to be a limited android and memory wipes, she as an android has to do it manually. It's not so much about emotional suppression (which is obvious that she's doing), but it's about suppression of the human experience and how much suffering that entails. It all comes out when she's about to die and she - with great ease - calls 9S by "Nines" with a smile on her face, because she actually gets to have a human experience for once.

Also lore: There's a bunch of extended lore media for every game in the DrakeNier series. Short story novellas, audio drama CDs, a YoRHa stage play that is a prequel to the game, etc. The general thread has links for you to find these things. Some of this stuff is really cool.

20:30 my.mixtape.moe/rggpdt.png I very much liked how the game went into how machines would act if they had no purpose. Like imitating humans and keeping the war going. In the end it seems so pointless but that's reality. Boiling it down to "What if AI's were as smart as humans" is kind of missing the point. It explores much more fundamental things about life through machines. While I agree that it's more of a tone piece, as you describe it, it's got a bunch of really interesting stuff going on.
