maybe it's just the greek in me (you know, the whole 'tragedy' thing), but i find these kinds of stories far more uplifting and constructive than most stories it might have something to do with an obsession with "balance" or whatever, but i think one can't truly appreciate emotional highs without emotional lows, so it all blurs together into "beautiful" for me personally; and really, as bleak as Yoko Taro can get sometimes, ultimately the man clings to hope and it shows. brilliantly all that said, i started using my dog's name for game characters after he suddenly passed years back, and boy oh boy was that maybe not the best decision with this one, because haha being prompted to type in the name of who i wanted to bring back at the end of this game........let me tell you that was a moment and a half. lmao

I enjoyed Automata for its philosophical themes and gameplay, but Replicant was a far more character focused, emotionally intimate story with multilayered protagonists and antagonists, and it hit me like a truck as well. Although I enjoy philosophy, I am a sucker for stories like Replicant. What was your favorite moment if you don't mind me asking?

I'm not one to cry, but Kaine's monologue on ending E, where she says she swore to be by your side and promises to get you back no matter what it takes - while you get flashbacks of the whole game - thats a special feeling that got me. Fooling you into thinking that self-sacrifice is what you need to do, only to realize you're hurting the one you're sacrificing yourself for even more than if you were to let her go. There's so many stories of people dying for the ones they love - but how many of them would actually agree with their loved ones giving up their life or them?

In years of following the franchise I have never known of people not understanding the sadness in it, but guess I found the few rare ones in the comments here. Just a FYI on why these people are like this, it all comes down to genetics. They have a weaker connection between these parts in the brain: Amygdala and vmPFC and OFC. It is actually quite sad as these are the same people who lack empathy, and are basically unable to love, depending on what part of the spectrum they are at. In the other hand people that do get affected by stories like this means the opposite, a stronger connection and more healthy and mature emotional intelligence.

@OsnosisBones2 жыл бұрын
If you meant the giant one in ending E, in the original novel version of the final ending it's clarified that giant flower is just a giant Lunar Tear made by mixing plant and machine by the quantum computer as a last act of reviving Nier for Kaine out of respect, and also when asked back around the time of D3 Taro clarified there is no connection between the giant Lunar tear and the world ending flower. It's a sort of shared motif/nod, but not the same thing.

@@LilijaTheLancer oh yeah they are very disturbing. Oh and about the character relationships, if you read the side materials like "short story long and "long story short" among other things like "YoRHa boys" and "NieR orchestral concert & script reading 20201" The game had no space for character backstories but the side materials have so much relationship expansion and stories. 2 stories in particular I would say are ESSENTIAL to understanding 2B and 9S and their relationship is "memory thorn" and "memory cage". Oh and the orchestral concert 20201 has a script reading done by the voice actors that I would also say is very necessary for understanding the characters. Very very good lore surrounding those 2 characters.

I really liked atomata and in some aspects better than replicant but replicant had the more emotional hit for me. But in atomata it's more philosophically hinted and has good level of depth. One thing that took alway from my emotional attachment to the story tho was ending E. At first I thought after several failed attempts I would get assistance from A2 or her pod since after the A2/9S story began we had a A2 learning to hack but no the whole purpose is to make you give up and ask for help from other players. I did not ask for help, instead I tried again and again and watched a dude on yt how to beat it and aster 3 weeks I finally did it but by that time I started to forget about the story and the emotional impact and just focused on beating it. Ending E didn't hit me hard and I know I didn't play it like it was supposed to but I don't like to be forced to accept defeat, but this was the best challenge I've completed in a long time.
