You guys wanted it so here it is! I bring to you a Warhammer 40k parody animation of a Nightlord joining the Galactic Empire. It's basically just another video of a stormtrooper being horrified.

Palatine is a human suprimacist, true, but he still needs non-humans to do manual labor and other unpleasent tasks. Plus, the Night Lords are too extreme in their tactics for Palpatine. Man know that if the night Lords start decorating houses with blood and spleens, then more rioting would occur. If they followed orders better, then yes, they would be good. Also, they betrayed a far more powerful Emperor fairly easily, whose to say they won't do it again. And sith on average are weaker than a lot of 40k psykers.

@@Averageguitarists Somehow I could totally see Palpatine keeping the Night Lords around as this sort of.. Force that even the inquisitors fear. The boogeymen for the Emperor's boogeymen, who show up when the alliance has too strong a foothold, or when the criminal underbelly needs to be overturned on a scale that simple stormtroopers would be unfit for. It being Palpatine, he probably has self destructs in all of their ships and weapons in order to defang them should they ever step too far out of line. Bring in the Yuuzhan Vong, however, and suddenly the Night Lords have their purpose.

Except the whole thing is that keeping people in line with fear alone is not a viable long term solution, especially not when a large scale rebellion is already happening. In canon star wars the entire reason the rebellion went from a nuisance to an actual large enough threat to turn it into a second galactic civil war was the empire blowing up alderaan. What do you think will happen when the empire makes it as blatantly clear as the night lord modus operandi that they very much are the evil monster?

The best thing is they are chaos un-corrupted (well there are a few outliers, but what remains of the legion is mostly chaos-free) their hatred of the imperium is pure, and entirely their own. I kind of wish there was a second Night Lord there to show the other side to the legion: those who still believe in a cause to their actions, such as bringing justice to the guilty or waging war against the Imperium which they believed wronged them while also refusing to become the same lunatics as other traitor legions, and that they work best when given goals and left to sort out the details by themselves...all while the one in the video insists they shut up and accept that the legion are a bunch of psychos. It'd make for entertaining bickering while also showing off the divide in the legion regarding those that are little better than the World Eaters and Emperor's Children, and those who still want them to aspire to some ideal of justice, even if it's a warped form of it. After encountering all these psycho's he needs to have a therapy session with a Salamander. I miss some of the lore, I thought I remember Nightlords were the most effective at ending rebellions within the Imperium in brutal yet pragmatic ways. Like skinning and making trophies of rebel leaders. Very brutal yet strategies like this make the bodycount of a civil war low. And the rest of the time they had moments like the Salamanders, beating and killing sadists and those who harm children.

given how this series started with a world eater and the conversation this applicant had, I imagine so many chaos marines coming to the imperial recruitment office followed the same pattern. Different chaos legions noticed the world eater's warp drives had now become so efficient to outstrip anything standard in either faction. The different chaos marines found out about the empire and the deal the world eater's made to get them and decided they wanted in on the action. Next up, the empire finds the forces of the imperium slightly more agreeable and and a tad less psychotic than chaos marines. Just stay away from the death korps of kireg, their fanatacism is just as potent as a chaos marine just to a different cause.

hyperdrives would absolutely rock for space marines, but Astartes are MASTERS of things like logistics. Literally the entire point of the codex Astartes, is to take advantage of every space marine's innate EIDETIC memory to load up on strategic answers to every combat situation imaginable.

The nightlords love to carry the helmets, skulls, and decaying heads of their enemies that they have slain. They also love to wear skin on their armor. Having that would have been hilarious as this 8ft tall space marine walks in with heads chained to his belt with a skin cape.

Once the Night Lord put an entire planet of rebels into submission without even setting foot on it: the population was celebrating their succesful repel of the Night Lord until the flayed bodies of the crew of one of their ships started raining all over the city. The NL simply waited until a fear-induced anarchy broke lose and broadcasted their pleas to the associated planets of the Rebel world to spread the message of what happens when you mess with the NL.

The nightlords have a hierarchy, commanders from the 31st millennium are still commanders in the 41st millennium... Unless they went nuts or were beaten by others for the leadership roll, the ones that are not being commanded are normally outliers and renegades that abandoned their oath and or legion. The first company is a good example of this their captain having been reported "missing" is being led by a corrupted captain from another company.

I feel like Night Lord and Stormtroopers could become good friends with Stormtrooper being the reasonable one and Night Lord switching from edgy Canadian war criminal and reasonable sassy bastard.
