I have read many Warhammer 40,000 novels, in my readings I have come across, the loyalist legions from multiple foundings as well as the traitors, xenos such as the orks, elder, tyrainds and the tau. I have also read novels on the Imperium, which covered the guard, mechanicus, and the inquisition. Even the necron got a few lines. Though most of these races I enjoyed reading about, the Night Lords are by far the most interesting faction that I have come across. They answer to no-one, whether it be chaos or the Emperor. They understand that fighting with honour will probably get you killed, and so choose to fight only when the odds are stacked in their favour. They use fear as a weapon, yet they were held in contempt by the Emperor for their tactics for simply doing as they were told to do - enforcing Imperial Compliance

So true also why there one of my favorite lore in warhammer 40k to. Its also funny they used fear bring systems in line and got punished for it and the Inquisition gets away with it. I think they do more damage then the Night Lords ever did.

Ironically, the Night Lord's Primarch, Konrad Cruze..... Didn't just betray the Emperor, his father, because of his visions... He did it to prove a point :x that, what he stood for, meant something. The Night Lords went rogue before the heresy. They see chaos merely as a tool to accomplish their goals, but see chaos worship as a weakness and perhaps for this reason they one of the least chaos infected traitor legions. When the heresy broke out they joined up with Horus, most likely because they had already been cast out by the Imperium (in their own minds atleast) or they could have joined the traitors for the lulz as martinus cornu so aptly put it.

no. Magnus the Red defied an order from the Holy Emperor, and continued to do research of the Warp. He was blinded by the Lord of Changes plans, and never even saw himself as being tricked. the Night Lords on the other hand, were tossed out because of how the High lords of Terra, Humans, saw their fighting style of slaughtering everyone that defied the Emperor, or the Imperium of Man. They sided with Chaos to get revenge for doing their Job as laid down by the Emperor.

Even though they are traitorous scum, I sympathize with the Night Lords. They are by far my favorite traitor legion. It is always fun to see these sorts of discussions, the truth of the Night Lords betrayal. There are the obvious sides to it, that of the Emperor's loya sons and that of the Night Lords themselves. I tend to believe the Night Lord trilogy on the matter, it seems more... Dramatic. Really adds the character to the Legion that no other traitor has. Ave Dominus Nox.

If you're asking if the Night Lords were part of the Blood Angels before the heresy, then the answer is no. the Night Lords is/were the 8th legion, the Blood Angels were the 9th ( the legions were split into chapters after the Horus heresy to make sure another civil wouldnt occur)

Still not fallen,..They dont believe in the Chaos Gods (at least not all of em)...Conrad hated the emperor because he thought that the Emperor was incapable of passing Judgement and sentence. He couldnt think of a leader leading without the use of fear and terror. I would add Iron Warriors. Since they were basically sent in when no other legion could break through the enemy fortifications. Their legion was constantly taken apart to garrison conquered territories and to add to it all, they were not allowed to get the rest they needed.

Actually he completly destroyed the planet for several reasons, rebelling against the Imperium was not one of them. When he left Nostramo it was the ideal of imperial compliance, but once he was gone the planet turned to its old ways of crime and corruption. Having been rebuked by Dorn for executing rebels and criminals in order to effectively force complience, he returned to destroy Nostramo to prove that his methods of war was not empty words.
