For giants I build mortors and above, and maybe with some kyting them around so they chase you instead of wrecking your base.

Dude, they only destroy your structures when they don't have a path to you. So every time your stares to the upper levels get destroyed, or you jump to a spot they can't reach, they start hitting your structures. Some of them dont stop hitting the structures once they get a path to you again, and thats whats screwing you over

Giants always show up at 1 so don't look for them before then.
