Excellent scene, as the light goes out so does Ben's sanity and will to live. P.S. Fun fact, the voice of the radio announcer is none other than George Romero.

So true. That's why I felt sorry for Helen Cooper a bit more then most of the other characters. All she wanted was to get help for her daughter, and in some way try to help Ben and the others despite her arrogant husband bumping heads with Ben all the time, only to have tragically have her daughter turn and she herself after. Even the look on Ben's face show's like he very much regrets not helping her out.

The crackle of madness, dead hope and hysteria from all the terror, the insanity, the constant bickering and fighting amongst themselves would never had happened if they just looked in the cellar and find the pump key. Poor, poor Ben, all his mind and will to live have been destroyed by the sight of the very thing that should have spared them all of the terror, insanity, anxiety and distrust that they’d suffered throughout the entire night. And his insanity and giddy laughter were the last things he made before he expired.

back in 68 Im pretty sure Romero wanted to go hard as most movies or remakes today. You cant compare a classic against the 90's version as both were shocking to watch in their own right. However considering how tame it may appear today, Romero's 68 version will always be shocking without all the exaggerated screams, blood, guts, and gore you see in todays movies. Romero's version is a Masterpiece. Tom Savannis version was a bit over the top at times. The rewrite and subtle changes scene per scene was amazing. Amazing because Romero himself was present during the shoot guiding Savinnis hand along the way.
@Bluesit32

One of Tom Savini's tricks was to use what we knew about the first movie against us. The staggering old man in the beginning, we're certain it's the first zombie. Nope. Just some poor guy in shock. They drive to the gas pump...but the key doesn't work. There's a body upstairs...but also a zombie.

Most zombie apocalypse media operates in a perpetual state of Murphy's Law: "Everything that can go wrong, _will_ go wrong," and this movie is certainly no exception. It happened in Night of the Living Dead '68, Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead and Night of the Living Dead '90 and well beyond. "If only," or "If ____ just," are two phrases that seem to haunt the actions and consequences of those attempting to survive; hell, _if only_ they found the attic entrance earlier they might've been able to wait out the night and get rescued, and _if Harry just_ had the balls to put his turned daughter out of her misery he, Ben and Barbara could've at least had a better chance to survive together.

DurradonXylles Ben actually(well, it looked that way) tried to give Harry another chance to redeem himself when he told him to shoot his daughter who was already nothing but a walking corpse and not to mention how she tried to maul Barbara who actually DID put Sarah down.

Ben does his absolute best to get everyone out alive, only to be shot twice by a man he was trying to help. Then he's left trapped in a cellar bleeding to death while a radio message advises him the Apocalypse has begun-at which point he discovers the gas key they needed to survive, just hanging there. While the walking dead try to break down the cellar door and kill and eat him, best case in that order. Welcome to Hell. No wonder he finally lost it at the end...

@@Euskalbikoizketak Harry Cooper wasn't better. Take it from his and Ben's respective points of view. There's no how to manuel to survive in an Zonmbie Apocalypse in these movies. Cooper wanted to keep his family safe, but was reluctant to help the others. Ben was trying to keep everyone in the group alive. In an actual scenario, would the cellar or attic work for long? Who knows? Maybe.

It's funny how there's a subtle implication with this film that the undead plague is supernatural in origin. Not only does anyone who dies reanimate regardless of whether or not they were bitten, but it also reanimates corpses that were already dead, even the ones isolated in buried coffins. It's probably some necromantic curse or biblical punishment.

If your in a situation like this do the fallowing 1:don’t try to board up the house or make loud noises of you have to close all the blinds and turn out the lights 2: look for the keys for the gas search all rooms, drawers, cabinets, especially the basement. 3: if you can’t drive or stay at the house, take only the supplies you need like some food, water, guns with ammunition, and walk to help. Stay in the shadows and don’t make loud noise the zombies are slow and dumb.

Won't work. 1) Zombies can "smell" you and track you that way; they don't have to see or hear you. They can hunt just as well in the dark as by daylight -- and advantage YOU don't have -- so turning out all lights actually disadvantages the humans. 2) Being in an un-barricaded house is arguably worse than staying in the open, b/c the lines of sight are so much shorter -- witness the several times Ben and Barbara were surprised by zombies at short range inside the house, just in the opening minutes. Few humans in an un-barricaded house will live to find the keys -- and those that do live will be too busy to look while fighting off zombies, who are free to approach.
@Bluesit32
@Bluesit32 Жыл бұрын
@@roberthaworth8991 Depends on the timing. Barricading isn't a bad idea unless there are already zombies in the area. They'll hear and start coming. Depending on the size of the building, you may never be able to finish in time to stop them. Too many windows to board up.
