This scene always made me sad because it's clear from his reaction, even as a zombie, that Ben recognizes Barbara. It even looks as though he tried to say her name.

The original would have been more like this, but because of the times, they wouldn't let a Black man be the hero & a woman be a strong character. I'm paraphrasing because I can't remember exactly the source of the information but this is probably why the remake was created :) I still love both.

In my opinion, this is the most realistic outcome of a zombie outbreak in America, after the initial surprise in the evening/night, out comes the guns and everything is under control by the next day: beers, guns and firing range, thats why it was only "Night of the living Dead", the other movies are great too, but this is great finale, cheers

This is only the beginning. There's less people around to die in a small town like this, thus adding to their numbers. Cities get overrun first, then eventually they come for them. And they still have to be on the lookout for anything that can cause death, as where there's corpses, there's zombies.

@@bozmundarts2614 Ya, but this early in the game? Bare in mind that the only reason for this movie's existence, while a good movie in it's own right, was because Romero was pissed about his first movie accidentally being public domain. This was meant to make back all the money he lost. By his own admittance no less. So with Savini's direction, doing something like this is a bit of a shocker to me, because at this point in the game, the Ghouls were only supposed to show primitive intelligence before it evolved. (The use of tools and improvising and that sort.)

@@bozmundarts2614 You may want to check the Screenplay Credit. This movie is written by Romero. The guy that was hired to direct this movie, is the guy who did the gore and zombie effects in Dawn and Day. Tom Savini. Yes, but that is what makes it a good movie. I hate watching a movie and I can't get into an actor because I know that they are going to last through the movie and be a hero. Whenever someone dies that is important, boom! That has my attention. The Walking Dead used to do a great job with it... Not so much any more. I also don't appreciate it when everyone dies and the apocalypse isn't averted. That is just lazy writing.

The Barbara from 1968 was catatonic, inconsolable and scared out of her wits, as many would likely be in a scenario like this. This Barbara from 1989 (year it takes place) was someone who was resourceful, pragmatic and a quick learner, as many would at least attempt to be in a scenario like this. Both are products of their respective times, and neither one invalidates the other since people would likely act like one of them. It's understandable to gravitate to this version of her because she's someone we would strive to be and/or would want to help us survive a zombie apocalypse.

Somewhat animated with cgi special effects. Tony Todd of course did the voice of Ben. The now late Joe Pantalono from both Dawn and Day did the voice for Harry Cooper. At the end of this film Ben like in the original is the sole survivor only to get shot in the head by a sniper who mistook him for one of the zombies. They were so wrong for having us believe that he would make it since he managed to safely hole himself up down in the cellar not knowing that he would still succumb to his gunshot wounds since the virus or radiation quickly reanimated people as soon as they died from whatever causes. Half of me thinks that Ben was still there. After all he could have just lunged out and attacked em especially the dude that was legit nose to nose from his face . I think the way he died “Blood Loss” was that he was alive during the turning process and was still aware of his surroundings and could still recognize people or the infection was still effecting him but at a slower time that making him still in turning process before the radiation process completes. If those fumes gave them asthma and cancer, and they succumbed to it, their surviving peers will just have more of them to deal with. But unfortunately two things brought down everything and turned their night into chaos and hell. The pump keys were in the basement the whole time and yet no one ever thought or considered checking if it was there until Ben had to hide there from the horde of zombies. And second, was Cooper. He was so fearful, angry, desperate and had no concern or interest of helping or fighting back the zombies. He was willing to leave others to save his own skin disregarding their lives like they are expendable. And he may have survived the night of death, he couldn’t survive Barbra’s rage of the things he’s done.
