Wife HATED this... I thought it was better than The Shape of Water by a smidge...

Happy New Year Chris! I wasn't sure if I was going to watch this movie, so I came to hear one of your excellent reviews. I might check it out!

Amy made a "mom speech" in the first act then repeated the speech an hour later. That's when I stopped watching.

Now I'm interested Chris. Sounds good. Saw this on HULU last night. But I like to check with you first for reviews. Have a great New Years Chris and thanks for a fantastic year (as always) of great reviews.

Agreed, and Amy Adams is just so rough on the eyes, sorry but this for a very certain type of woman.

I did like the museum scene. It made me feel like a call back to her role in Night at The Museum and Robin Williams!

Watched last night. Definitely took a lot for me to not turn it off at first, but definitely some great, relatable moments. The last 15 or 20 minutes also got to me emotionally a bit, which I was surprised by. I feel like it would be better on a 2nd watch, knowing what I'm getting into.

I enjoyed it, but it felt like it could have been a bit tighter/shorter. Considering its fantastical and psychological theme I thought it would have also gained if the cinematography had been more conceptual/experimental. That said, I think its night shots had better lighting than most current films and series.

This is a really divisive movie, both in subject matter and execution. It helped me to better understand the "trapped" feeling that stay at home parents can get. That being said, I wish they hadn't made the husband so clueless and give them the opportunity to communicate and work through their faults. It kind of gets wrapped up with a neat little bow and abandons the whole dog fantasy thing, but I thought it was solid overall.

Howler of a review Chris, but I don't think this puppy is for me, as I don't have a dog in this fight! ;)

this movie is absolutely the left's take on "domesticating" women. It's their combative narrative to the stay at home mother.... adams character is constantly pushing back at the husband as if he's usless and she's "tired" from all the mothering of one child can take almost constantly questioning her having the child, her changing into a dog is a message to women to "don't forget your feral'ness" when really she's fighting the mental health problems left by her mother. at one point it portrays her mother as some sort of witch.... this movie is 2.3-3/5 stars at best. I can't imagine a lot of people enjoying this film. However a good dark comedy I've recently given a chance is the strange story "the dead don't die" with bill murry and adam driver. it's dry humor and dark outlook, if your bored and looking for something to watch give that film a try instead of "Nightbitch" it's more worth your time and doesn't carry a MESSAGE...

Loved this movie and review! Related to this so much. The variety interview pairing Amy Adams and Demi Moore was a fun watch too. Wouldnt connect The Substance and Nightbitch on my own but made since 😊
