I’ve done two of these so I can truly stand back and laugh at the rants. There is a special tool to engage the window cogs. I used a screwdriver. One of my windows were so tight I was afraid I was going to break the window.

If you actually watch the video properly you will see these bolts with seed one of them even broke because they were sees no special tool nothing would have helped it's a stupid design if you done as many cars as me you would realise it's a stupid design

If this helps for the next time leon your missing a special tool. The 2 big nuts with teeth are so you can undo/adjust the drop glass from the outside of the car by removing the weather strip. The special tool is like a c spanner you use when adjusting coil overs. Those minis were prone to wind noise we had to adjust them on a daily basis at the dealer. its still a ball ache just tad easier. makes great tele though. regards kinger

I totally agree with you ..I have just replaced an r56 window cassette.. nightmare .. I looked at putting an allegro manual window winder in .. but the glass is scrolloped out and won’t take it . I also have the supercharged early model and like yours was a nightmare ,,,

I tackled this job yesterday on my daughter's Mini, those toothed nuts are a pain but once they come out the window simply lifts out. They won't be siezed but mega tight! I used a 5mm allen key and then a long 5mm socket on an extension to get some leverage, then they went! Using just an allen key will result in no knuckles left!

Halfway through doing a similar job on my 2006 mini One, after the drivers side stopped working. What a pig of a job, with a single hidden bolt making it a nightmare. I'd wanted a mini for years, but my god I won't be buying another. Nothing but trouble. At the moment I can't turn the wipers off.

Lol, I did this on the wife's car, took 3 hours to get the first one out, I went in knowing it was a left handed screw, started on the window that "worked" before i tried on the one like you had (that the cabling was completely broke) I used both an alan in the back and the t15 in the front and still could not get it free... I ended up using channel locks and getting about 5degrees of a turn and backing it out that way. once liberated, I quickly made this tool imgur.com/gallery/npQDWW6 and the other door came apart, window came out, slides out and motor swapped to new, put back together and for a spin within 40 minutes

I can fully appreciate how frustrating it can be especially after having to re-affix the centre pivot on the passenger side door window reg on my Astra G coupe ( which as I'm sure you'll know is also a frameless door), and to cap it all off there were 3 rivet hole's of which only one seemed to be used yet the bracket and holes lined up for all three (BERK's), (just being polite and kerbing the lingo there), so I eventually got the bracket lined back up through various bodgy way's (studded bar and flatty's etc) then got some pin's in to keep it more or less in place till I got a short hex head cap screw through, then double nutted the back and just so I dont need to go through the crap again whopped a snot of weld on the 2 accessible backnut's (if the top one come's away I will have to have a curse at Nylock, and then chew my whick out getting another pair of Nylock's on again), better access port's is what I say, cos manufacturer's have to understand that thing's will work great at first but will eventually break so make it easier to sort the stuff out. (Good God, I'm amazed I have managed to be be as good with my language, when I think back to how much of a TW@T it was, oops.)

I guess this is why you take your mini to someone who knows minis. Doesn’t take them 4 hrs of labor (but they still charge it probably). Mod mini has a good tutorial if that is what you’re wanting. This is entertaining but more a trial and error show (ie me trying to do it).

Lol! Very entertaining to watch! Not just me that swears then??! I do a lot of BMW Z4 drivers window regulators. Quite difficult to find secondhand and new ones are about £175. Still a pita to do though! Adjustment has to be just right to get the glass to seal to the soft-top properly. i fitted a replacement cable kit bought from ebay for a customer who wanted to save money. Ever tried feeding a new cable through all the reels and things? A nightmare to say the least. And did it last? Err,.....no. Had to do it all again the following week with a new reg. On top pf that, if the door card is not totally sealed to the door with sealant, the car fills up with water when it rains...what a joke. Brilliant videos though. thank you for filming them.

On my Mini the arm rest covers one of the torx screws, and according to another video it's just a case of sliding a flat trim tool underneath the rest, thus pressing in the locking pin allowing the rest to be slipped forward and off. took the guy a few seconds. In my case, after 20 minutes of sliding in the tool this way and that, I lost my shit and just ripped off the arm rest, leaving broken tabs all over the place. If needed, I will cable tie the thing back on, but will cross that bridge when I get to it.

I know it was a while ago but what would I adjust if the window doesn't line up with the seal on the B Pillar correctly? It's as if the window needs to lean back toward the rear of the car to cover the rubber seal.

Hi mate I cannot really remember it's the only one I've ever done but from memory there's not really a lot of adjustment there's a little bit of adjustment on the window but if it's completely out you might have an issue with the window reg there also might be a little bit of adjustment with the runners but not a lot

bodgit and leggit garage just changed mine on the mini. The motor had gone. It was going to be a simple job as the regulator itself was fine, therefore taking me less than 45 mins for me to take everything and put it back. Well whilst taking the motor off, it pulled the gear that holds the two cables. Went from a 45 min job and a cost of £15 to 2 days trying to put back the cables which I just couldn't. Ended up buying a whole new regulator at an extra cost. Just one small thing turned everything into a nightmare 😂

Your not wrong about German cars ..my audi a4 would fight me if I wanted to empty the bloody ashtray..the oil filter location was a pain for the home mechanic...it would fall off its jack (the one provided) sprung leaks at the bulkhead impossible to see let alone get to...there is a place reserved in hell for that car...oh and every fixing is a special size...do the designers go home at night laughing their tits off knowing it's an unfixable pile of crap

Great film, very enjoyable and really helpful. Could have saved a a lot of swearing and slagging off German design had the mechanic had the knack. My window came out really easily (never done it before) by putting a screwdriver on the teeth of the cog things that hold the glass in place and tapping the cog things round. No need to remove anything but the door panel and handle. Putting the new regulator back in was a little more tricky. Put the top bolts on before you put the regulator in. Otherwise you'll loose them in a void (as I did). Easily replaced as they're very standard 10mm bolts. This job is nowhere as difficult as depicted in this film. Did the job in the street outside my house. I loved my 1992 Leyland 1300 Mini but I think where a'll suffering from amnesia. I don't remember changing the engine mounts, speedo cable, subframe or exhaust as being easy jobs (yes I'm still suffering from nightmares about them). No need to change the regulator as the widows were hand cranked and went wrong on my car. Just bought my BMW Mini and have never owned one before. 2002 and no rust unlike my 'British' Mini which had a new panel welded onto it every MOT. The need to weld the engine bulkhead killed it. My redesign British built Mini is safe, quiet and fast unlike the old one.

The wire been wound up in that housing by the motor and did a fair share of damage. Luckily the motor still works fine and I managed to knock those stupid sprockets loose with a bit of wood and a hammer. Thanks for your vid tho. I was just about as frustrated by the end of dealing with mine.

Had the same problem in my 2000 Skoda Octavia last month. Was an easy fix and changed it within half an hour. Good reason not to buy a Mini:) btw, i live only 2 km from the factory where they are produced....i can slap some one for you overthere if you want.....
