A Moon Shaped Pool is my favorite Radiohead album. It took a lot of listens before i can really safely say that. i absolutely love this album. The album is depressed, but also very expressive in showing it. The result is a haunting and dark, yet also beautiful and atmospheric album. Present Tense is my favorite Radiohead song, and there's not a single moment of boredom here for me.

I feel like AMSP is the culmination of everything Radiohead has done to date. Everything they've experimented they've perfected a sound in this album. If you love how tasteful this album is and how it blends electronic and synthetic elements, PLEASE react to Homogenic by Björk. That album is also incredibly ahead of its time, I’ll just say that it was made in 1997 and let the sound of the album speak for itself. Also, Björk is probably one of the most unique singers I’ve ever heard.

I was lucky enough to see them perform a lot of these songs live, and Ful Stop might have been the most amazing, precisely because I knew what was coming halfway through, and boy did they ever kick it into high gear once the drop came. I had goosebumps the entire way through.

Forgot how absolutely awesome this album is especially with just how unique and completely different it is. Big favourites of mine would be “Burn the witch”, “Daydreaming”, “Deck’s dark”, “Ful stop” (first time I heard it in this video and damn, you making me love it), “Identikit” and just probably the rest of the album.

There was an npr interview with Johnny Greenwood where he talked about how they approach each album differently depending on the recording technique. During A Moon Shaped Pool they recorded everything to straight to tape and manipulated sounds by bending the tape. The most obvious example of this probably the start of daydreaming or the end of ful stop.

Maybe I'm a little too late, but I just wanted to say that your reactions are amazing, not just because they are genuine and pure, but because you add a lot of perspective and your analysis (from a musician point of view) let us know what the songs may be trying to evoke. I think AMSP it's not only his most human album but maybe it's fully realization as a band. Don't get me wrong, it's not as good as OKC or IR (or Kid A), but because they are in another league. I think Radiohead achieves in this the good balance on experimentation. Its baroque layers are amazingly compensated with its electronic textures in a unique way, even better accomplished than in in Rainbow (though IR may be better produced, in my opinion).

The creepy sound at the end of Daydreaming is Thom saying "Half of my life" in reverse
@austinh953
@austinh953 5 жыл бұрын
@6:08 The reverse lyrics say, "Half of my life." This is a reference to Thom Yorke's previous marriage. He spent 23 years with his partner which was half of his life (he was 46 in 2015). You could almost read the reversed lyrics as wanting to go back to her. Unfortunately he couldn't because she died in December 2015 from cancer. Tragically beautiful to say the least. And Decks Dark is my favorite on the album. It wasn't at first, but I slowly started finding subtle details the more I listened.

One of my initial thoughts upon first listening to this album back in 2016 was that it really sounds like a very sombre Elbow album, especially The Seldom Seen Kid. TSSK and AMSP could be sister albums in terms of both music and lyrical themes. You should definitely check out TSSK once you've finished AMSP The reversed vocals at the end on Daydreaming say "Half my life, All my love", referring to Thoms separation
